Chapter 101: Author’s Note
Tomorrow at noon, it will be available for purchase. I’m going to start playing the victim now ( laugh.
To be honest, the performance of this book was quite dismal at the beginning. I don’t know if it was because I got a poisonous milk from the Grass God, but the trial run failed, and the data was very poor.
At that time, friends had already advised me to switch, but I felt I could still write, and I really wanted to write this book. With the gradually appearing positive reviews in the comment section, and the steadily increasing recommendation votes and monthly votes, I persevered.
It wasn’t until the intelligent recommendation system that the effect was actually not good at first. The anticipated influx of readers in three to four days didn’t happen.
Fortunately, I held on, and after a few more days, the effects began to show. Collections increased little by little, and the read-throughs were enough for further recommendations.
So it was recommended, and step by step, we reached this point.
Therefore, the first people I want to thank for this book are all of you readers. Your support is my motivation to persevere and my antidote.
Without you, I might have been poisoned to death by the Grass God long ago ( laugh.
Then I also want to thank the Grass God, Cat God, and other gods who gave me recommendations. With their help, I made it to the first round of trials, although I immediately failed.
Next, I have to thank my editor, Shiguang. Without him, this book wouldn’t exist.
Someone in the comment section has already revealed my alias. I used to write entertainment stories, then last year I experienced a job change and a car accident, which led me to stop writing. I’ve switched accounts now, partly because the genre has changed, and partly because I want to try and change my luck.
Last year was genuinely unlucky. The job change is nothing much to talk about; it was just a period of irregularity, along with my computer breaking down, and daily and work accidents. They don’t need to be mentioned, as they were either troublesome, costly, or time-consuming, but they were all resolved.
It was the car accident that really took a toll on me.
Last year, I rode a bicycle twice, and both times I had an accident.
The first time, I bought a mountain bike, and the seat wasn’t tightened properly. While riding at high speed, the seat lifted up. My butt sank backward, and my hands, gripping the handlebar, turned it, causing the bike to swerve and stop. Due to inertia, I flew forward and fell face-first, requiring several days of recovery. Fortunately, it didn’t affect my writing.
The second time was more unfortunate. I was on a business trip riding a shared bike when a taxi hit me, sending me flying. My tailbone hurt for over two months, and my fingers were also injured, leading me to stop writing.
After returning this year, I originally planned to write a “plagiarism” style story, intending to organize and restart my previous work. Although I no longer have much passion in this genre, it’s easy to achieve results, and there have been successful precedents.
Then, when I discussed it with my editor, he told me: “The ‘plagiarism’ theme is evergreen; if you write it excitingly, you can achieve results. I have an idea: apocalypse + travel. If you can capture that feeling of 《 ‘Da Vinci’ 》, a road story, where people depend on each other in the apocalypse, the loneliness of being isolated, focusing on exploration and daily life, with less of the common bloody darkness of apocalypse stories, I think that would also be a viable path, but it requires a good balance.”
I watched 《 ‘Da Vinci’ 》 and instantly fell in love with the atmosphere and feeling, so I wanted to give it a try.
After watching 《 ‘Da Vinci’ 》 a few times, I started trying to write the beginning, following the feeling. The first version I wrote was a normal time travel/isekai, waking up, discovering the situation and predicament, but after reading it myself and having friends read it, it never felt like the right feeling.
So I abandoned that beginning and tried another approach. Instead of aiming for the normal character introductions, plot points for cheat skills, and predicament setups, I focused on atmosphere and feeling, and wrote this diary-style beginning.
It’s unconventional, but I feel pretty good about it. After showing it to my editor, he also said it was acceptable, and then we discussed the subsequent story direction and points to note quite a bit.
Then I started the book and have persisted until now, getting onto the Sanjiang recommendation.
However, despite being on Sanjiang, the book’s performance is still not too good; the read-through rate isn’t very high, and I only barely managed to get here.
Fortunately, my expectations for this book were not very high to begin with. Considering it’s a niche genre with such an unconventional start, and it doesn’t focus on satisfying the reader’s desire for excitement but only on atmosphere and feeling, I would have been content with even five hundred subscriptions.
Looking at it now, the performance should exceed this expectation.
All right, enough idle talk, let’s get down to business.
The above is mainly to convey that I am writing this book seriously and diligently. I have discussed the plot framework with my editor, and I will undoubtedly finish it. No further guarantee is needed.
Then tomorrow at noon, it will be available for purchase. Five chapters totaling 10,000 characters are ready. I will continue to work hard after returning home from work tonight.
I originally planned to update 10,000 characters daily for a period, but yesterday I tried, and as someone who works a day job, my body and mind really couldn’t handle it.
So, I will guarantee a minimum of 6,000 characters updated daily. If my work is not too tiring and my mental state is good that day, I will strive for 10,000 characters.
Of course, in this situation, having some motivation and a goal would help me push through, so I’ll make a promise:
Starting from the second day after it goes on sale, in addition to the daily 6,000 characters, for every additional hundred average subscriptions, I will add one more chapter.
The monthly votes are currently at 1000. I won’t put too much pressure on myself to exceed 1500, but for every additional hundred monthly votes, I will add one more chapter.
The character star ratings are all still six-star. For each level increase, I will add one more chapter.
A “Mengzhu” (major supporter) adds one more chapter.
The above.
Of course, even without the above, I will strive to update 10,000 characters daily.
Thank you all for your support. See you in the VIP chapters.
