Hogwarts Study Panel – Chapter 98

Arresto Momentum

Chapter 98: Arresto Momentum

Transfiguration, Spell Interruption, Phantasmal Curse.

This was the practical spell group Xi En devised for himself. They respectively provided Xi En with attack, defense, and concealment.

Grinding the latter two spells up to 【expert】 level to improve his practical ability and unlock the spell field 【proficient】 title was one of Xi En’s most important tasks at the moment.

After all, beyond 《Standard Spell: Level Four》, the difficulty of spell learning would suddenly increase.

Xi En needed to prepare for future spell learning.

“A very good choice,”

Professor Flitwick, gratified, had Xi En open 《Standard Spell: Level Four》, in which the pronunciation and casting gestures of Spell Interruption were fully recorded.

“Spell Interruption is a fundamental counter-curse in the spell system, remarkably effective in dispelling low-level jinxes and control-type spells—

Cast a spell, Mr. Green.”

Xi En quietly cast a Water-Making Spell and noted down the incantation of the counter-curse.

Xi En knew that some Dark Arts had their own specific counter-curses, such as Professor Snape’s Snape’s Powerful Curse.

But clearly, some counter-curses could also deal with most Dark Arts, such as Spell Interruption.

It is the counter-curse for many hexes and jinxes.

Very interestingly, Xi En had previously regarded it only as a defensive spell, but on reflection, its magical principle was not to bestow defense upon the wizard, but to disintegrate the opponent’s attack.

“Finite Incantatem. (Spell Interruption.)”

Professor Flitwick waved his wand, and all those streams of water vanished without a trace.

“Oh—did you feel it, Mr. Green?”

Professor Flitwick crossed his hands, slowly placed 《Standard Spell: Level Four》 on the somewhat worn desktop, and asked.

“The magical power was blocked, Professor.”

Xi En perceived that the magical power output from the tip of his wand seemed to have been blocked; naturally, his spellcasting was disintegrated.

“Very good! Keen perception!”

Professor Flitwick paced back and forth excitedly on the spot,

“Come, try it: termination, disintegration, remember, Mr. Green…”

“Finite Incantatem! (Spell Interruption!)”

Xi En imitated the professor’s gesture, imagined himself ending the opponent’s spellcasting, and then swung his wand tip sharply downward.

The Water-Making Spell that the professor had just cast disappeared at once.

“An astonishing rate of progress!”

……

In the classroom.

Hermione had already been holding 《Simple Introduction to Ancient Runes》 and reading it for five days. She was naturally very interested in these mysterious and powerful characters and had also borrowed quite a few related books from the library.

Justin was naturally acting as Xi En’s sparring partner, since Xi En could not cast Spell Interruption at the air.

This practice continued until Xi En unlocked Spell Interruption.

The remaining time was spent with Xi En coaching a certain excited little badger.

After all, Neville had recently been sending feathers flying everywhere. Justin planned to learn this spell so that Neville would no longer be afraid to use small wooden boards for practice—Neville had always feared losing control and hitting someone.

But to Xi En’s surprise, the Spell Interruption he had just learned soon ushered in a real combat opportunity.

……

After entering October, the weather grew increasingly cold.

The mountains around the school were gray and hazy, sometimes covered by a thin layer of ice and snow, and the lake surface also gradually began to freeze.

At this time, young wizards would put on their gloves, wrap their scarves, and most often sit in front of the fireplace to chat, do assignments, and play games.

Friday afternoon,

Charms Classroom.

Because there was no fireplace here, it felt exceptionally cold. Coupled with the new Water-Making Spell Professor Flitwick was teaching that day,

everyone tried it with extreme caution, afraid that the water would gush out and soak them.

Professor Flitwick demonstrated the wand movement once more; the motion was so smooth it looked like he was drawing a winding stream in the air.

“Your wrist must be flexible, not stiff. The incantation is ‘Water-Making Spell’; you must pronounce it as crisp as spring water tinkling, not as if you are smashing stones…”

The classroom was soon filled with whispering and the whooshing of swinging wands.

Justin carefully waved his wand, and a thin stream of water emerged from its tip. Though weak, its direction was correct, and he let out a sigh of relief.

He turned around,

Xi En was shaping a stream of water into an arch bridge; then, with a flick of his wand and an incantation, the water was cleaned away before it even fell.

“Oh—that’s amazing.”

Justin murmured, a proud smile appearing on his face.

“Very good, Mr. Green! I will add two points to Ravenclaw!”

Professor Flitwick walked over and nodded at Xi En in satisfaction.

“Of course, nice progress as well, one point to Hufflepuff, Mr. Finley.”

Justin’s smile grew gentler.

Among a group of Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff students, a flash of orange-red stood out particularly clearly.

Seamus Finnigan, due to his successive explosions, had been required by Professor Flitwick to practice more. He had to attend an extra class and was receiving special attention.

Just like with Xi En, the professor invested a great deal of energy—his gaze had been bouncing back and forth between Xi En and Seamus for the entire class.

Seamus frowned, his expression full of focus and determination.

He reminded himself that he must not fail again, and even if he did, he must not cause another explosion…

So he firmly remembered what Professor Flitwick had said about “power” and “surging out,” telling himself he had to succeed at least once.

He gripped his wand tightly, as if it were not a wand but the reins of a wild horse that needed taming.

“Water-Making Spell!”

Seamus shouted, putting all his strength into drawing an arc forward with his wand.

However, things did not go as expected.

There was no clear spring water, not even a few scattered droplets.

Instead, there was a deafening boom, as if a water-filled balloon had suddenly burst under high pressure.

A ridiculously thick, completely out-of-control jet of water—more like an invisible water buffalo charging with all its might—burst from the tip of Seamus’s wand.

Professor Flitwick had his back to him. By the time the professor noticed, the icy water was already surging straight toward him.

Yet behind that torrent, a pair of emerald-green eyes flashed:

“Finite Incantatem! (Spell Interruption!)”

A fleeting burst of light surged from Xi En’s wand; the water stream gradually vanished midair as if it had met some resistance.

Xi En lowered his wand. Professor Flitwick was trembling all over with anger.

“I am deducting three points from Gryffindor!”

Although the professor calmed down a few seconds later, he still punished Seamus with copying out one hundred times:

【I am a wizard, not a baboon wielding a wand wildly.】

Deer Card jammed; the two missed updates will be made up on the weekend.

That way, there will be six updates per day on the weekend.

I am sorry^
