Chapter 72
Golden hair, a color worthy of being called the sun itself, extended downwards, boasting an abundance that could envelop the entire body and then some.
The ends of the hair reached almost to the floor, and neatly arranged bangs revealed her forehead on both sides.
Between her eyelids, refreshing green eyes, like they held the lush greenery of the forest, sparkled. Around her neck hung an ornament with a green gem, the same color as her eyes.
It was her attire, more than anything else, that left me speechless.
Clothes that were close to see-through, revealing her skin. It was harder to find parts that were covered from her shoulders to her toes. Stella’s nun’s habit was quite revealing, but the woman in front of me was even more so.
Collarbone, forearms, cleavage, breasts, abdomen, sides, navel, pelvis, lower abdomen, thighs. Everywhere my eyes landed was practically no different from being naked.
No, even if she had taken off all her clothes and stood naked, it would have felt less lewd than that outfit.
Her chest, which was almost exposed, was as big as Lize’s. It was so big that she couldn’t even see the top of her elbow properly because it was covered by her side chest.
The only clothing covering her important areas was a single, extremely thin piece of cloth. It descended from the back of her neck, barely covering her breasts, and joined together at her lower abdomen to conceal her feminine private parts.
Even the thickness of the cloth itself was alarmingly thin. It was so thin that the flesh of her buttocks was slightly visible between her thighs.
With such attire, it was impossible that she was wearing underwear.
There was no underwear visible on the sternum that was exposed just before the nipples were visible, and there was no underwear between the garter belt that wrapped around the pelvis and hip bone.
In other words, the only clothing the woman was wearing was a see-through outfit that was almost transparent, a single piece of opaque cloth that wasn’t even as wide as her forearm, and a garter belt with stockings.
It was an outfit that left even me, who thought I had seen just about every kind of outfit imaginable, speechless.
Even the see-through dresses that the Knight Commanders wore at the banquet didn’t reveal all of their vital areas like that, and Aurora’s dress was the same.
“I’ve been wanting to see you very much.”
The Pope greeted me with a smile.
I couldn’t say anything and just stammered, overwhelmed by the unique elegance and atmosphere emanating from the woman, as well as the presence of her attire, which was embarrassing to even call clothes.
Looks didn’t matter much. Pretty women were a dime a dozen on the streets. Even the important NPCs were beyond beautiful, their appearances exceeding the limits of conventional beauty.
But such an outrageous outfit was something I couldn’t even fathom.
Recalling that this was also an outfit handcrafted by mod creators, it was yet another example of how human talent always surpasses people’s imagination.
“Delta? We’re going in toㅡ”
The Knight Commanders had similar reactions to mine.
Iris glanced at the Pope as she entered, then froze on the spot. Claudia, Rize, and Erika, who followed in line, suffered a similar fate.
Since they weren’t wearing armor, their expressions were clearly visible. Stella had mentioned that wearing weapons in the presence of the Pope was considered sacrilegious.
However, the emotions I felt seemed to be of a completely different nature.
While I was shocked by the absurd level of exposure of the Pope’s holy vestments, the Knight Commanders seemed more shocked by the elegance and holiness overflowing from the Pope.
“Welcome. Knight Commanders of the Silver Dawn Knights. I, too, welcome you in the name of the Sun.”
The Pope took a light step. The hem of her holy vestments fluttered, and her breasts swayed significantly. The cloth that ran down the center of her body, covering her vital areas, swayed back and forth.
Seeing it sway like that, it was clear that the cloth wasn’t fixed anywhere, yet the Pope’s skin was never exposed.
“First, I should introduce myself.”
The Pope stopped about ten steps away from us, brought her arms, which were spread wide, together in front of her lower abdomen, and smiled brightly. It was a contradictory smile, both cute and mature.
“My name is Floreta Evangelina.”
The halo emanating from behind her intensified. It was such an intense light that I had to raise my hand to shield my eyes. I narrowed my eyes and looked at the woman called Floreta through the gap between my fingers.
“I am the one called the Sun Pope in the Raphaella Holy Kingdom.”
The Sun Pope, the heart of the Holy Kingdom and the representative of God, was standing right in front of us.
“Are your hearts a little calmer now?”
Floreta looked at us with a benevolent smile. The Knight Commanders looked moved just by seeing her smile. They didn’t seem to mind her attire at all.
I wanted to ask them what they thought of her clothes, but I held back because it was clear that it would be rude to talk about such trivial matters in front of the Pope.
“You must be the one Stella was talking about.”
Emerald green eyes turned to me.
“…Did you know?”
“There’s no way I wouldn’t know.”
The Pope chuckled briefly. Even such small gestures overflowed with elegance. If it weren’t for her insane outfit, she would have been a perfect fit for the position of the Sun Pope.
“I, Floreta Evangelina, apologize on behalf of the Inquisitor for the rudeness she committed.”
Her head bowed slightly. Before we could react in surprise and try to stop Floreta, the head that had offered the apology had already returned to its original position.
Erika stammered,
“Y-Your Holiness, there’s no need for you to bow your head to us…”
“The hierarchy of positions is not important, Knight Commander of the Silver Dawn Knights. What matters is who committed the wrong. I have also wronged you, so it is only natural for me to apologize.”
“When you say you’ve wronged us…?”
“Do you remember what Inquisitor Stella did?”
Claudia, Rize, and Erika flinched simultaneously. I did too. Of course, I remembered. It was a memory that I wouldn’t forget for the rest of my life unless something extraordinary happened.
How could I forget that the battle nuns collectively took off their clothes in front of me for the heresy determination, and on top of that, even made me grope their breasts with my own hands?
“It was I who told the Inquisitor that you had unleashed a demon. And it was also I who requested a holy war from the Inquisitor even after realizing that the demon’s presence had vanished. Do you understand my sin now?”
I had roughly expected something like this.
Even in the game, the Inquisitor was a person who only obeyed the orders of the Sun Pope. Conversely, the Inquisitors only obeyed the orders of the Moon Pope.
The Inquisitor not only left the Papal City but even invaded the Empire’s territory? There was only one person in the entire continent who could order such an act.
“I will not deny my wrongdoing. However, I hope you can understand that it was an unavoidable choice.”
“…An unavoidable choice?”
“It was absolutely necessary to completely dispel the Inquisitor’s suspicions towards you.”
The smile on Floreta’s lips faded slightly.
“She’s a poor child. Her parents were sacrificed before her eyes by demon worshippers, and she was the only one who barely managed to escape. Since then, she has been following God’s will. How can someone like me even begin to imagine the hatred and resentment she harbors towards demons?”
It’s a story I’ve heard before. In that respect, the game’s setting was the same as reality.
The reason the Inquisitor enjoyed torturing demon worshippers was partly due to her personal preferences, but also because the memories of her childhood had become a trauma, making it a form of revenge for her parents.
Of course, since she was an NPC who treated players quite harshly if their Faith or Divine Power stats were below a certain level, the number of users who disliked her, regardless of her tragic past, was also considerable.
“Not long ago, you were all involved with a demon.”
I had no intention of denying it, so I quietly nodded. The Knight Commanders blushed, embarrassed to admit their connection to a demon in front of the Pope, and nodded even more timidly.
“Although the scent is very faint, the smell of the demon still lingers on you. Ordinary believers wouldn’t notice, but the battle nuns of our Grand Cathedral and the Inquisitor would certainly have noticed.”
“And now it would have been purified and vanished. Because you met Her Holiness.”
“You were aware of that? That’s quite remarkable.”
Floreta gave me a benevolent smile. It was something that was mentioned repeatedly after defeating a demon-type boss and talking to the Pope, so there was no way I wouldn’t know.
Actually, I was just planning to keep my mouth shut until the Pope spoke, but the Knight Commanders’ expressions darkened so rapidly that I decided to speak up first.
Even though it didn’t have any direct effect on them, having the smell of a demon on their bodies couldn’t have been a good thing. It must have been quite unpleasant.
“If you had first encountered the Inquisitor within the Holy Kingdom, the repercussions would have been far greater. Instead of conducting a heresy determination first, she would have attacked you without hesitation to purify you, believing that demon worshippers had entered the Holy Kingdom.”
That was certainly true. The reason she tried to conduct a heresy determination was because we met outside the Holy Kingdom. If she had encountered us inside, there would have been no determination or anything.
Either the Holy Kingdom’s forces would have been annihilated, or we would have all been killed. We would have had to fight until one of those two outcomes occurred.
“So, it was necessary to clear up the misunderstanding before you visited the Holy Kingdom, and I ordered a holy war to meet with you directly. I could have told you myself that you are not heretics, but in order to meet me, you would eventually have to meet her, which would be counterproductive.”
‘…Huh?’
Wait a minute. Something’s not right.
“Your Holiness, may I ask you a question?”
“By all means. What are you curious about?”
“Why is it a given that we’re coming to the Holy Kingdom?”
She said it so naturally that I almost missed it. The Pope was speaking under the assumption that we were coming to the Holy Kingdom.
We were going to visit eventually. We were, but it was supposed to be after the main story had progressed considerably.
The only things we needed to obtain from the Holy Kingdom were the enchantment-type divine spells that could be acquired through quests related to the Sun and Moon Popes. Everything else was meaningless.
It’s not like I was going to build my character like a cleric.
“Have you noticed?”
The smile on Floreta’s face brightened even more. The Pope began to walk towards us. The click-clack of her high heels echoed through the space. Her breasts swayed gently with each step.
Floreta, who had walked right up to me, smiled softly and gently grasped my hand.
“It’s because I wanted to meet you.”
