Ch 57
‘Do you wish for it to be as if nothing happened?’
“Ugh.”
Aria mulled over those words, burying her face in the sheets.
Why couldn’t she answer back then?
She felt so pathetic about it. But she couldn’t just say ‘yes’ right away either.
More than anything, why is Killian doing this to her? Shouldn’t it be fine if things went back to normal?
She couldn’t understand why Killian was so persistently tormenting her like this. And even kissing her.
He said it was his first kiss.
Can she trust Killian?
Aria’s head throbbed.
Even when they were together, she was both afraid of when Killian would regain his memories and also resentful of Killian for cornering her and enjoying it, which was her only reaction.
Why on earth is he doing this to me?
She couldn’t understand it.
Even though he treated her well while he was here.
Could it be that she has better conditions than Melina, and that he is trying to eliminate her because she is the daughter of a political rival?
“Is that it?”
If it were the Killian from the original story, it was entirely possible.
“But the Killian I knew wasn’t like that.”
“Is he close with Duke Loenbert?”
“Kyaa!”
Aria screamed in surprise because of Lionell, who had entered unnoticed.
“Your Highness, why are you entering my room so carelessly!”
“I knocked more than ten times. I kept getting no answer, so I came in because I was worried something had happened.”
“Ah…….”
―Squawk!
“Come here.”
Aria was no longer very afraid of the hawk that now flew around her room as it pleased. The hawk still liked Lionell very much, so when he came, it squawked excitedly.
The hawk flew onto Lionell’s arm and tilted its head. When he stroked the hawk’s head with his hand, a purring sound from the raptor could be heard as if it was in a good mood.
“You were late today.”
“Yes.”
Aria felt particularly uncomfortable being with Lionell today. Somehow, Killian came to mind, and she felt like she shouldn’t be with Lionell.
“Did you have a good time with Young Lady Le Hrehner?”
“Yes. But I couldn’t get any useful information. However, it seems to be true that she went to the temple that day.”
“I see.”
“I’ll try to get closer and find out for sure.”
“No. We have a psychometry user on our side. They can find out by reading the memories of objects, so don’t push yourself too hard.”
“……Yes.”
Lionell sent the hawk flying again and approached Aria. She felt even stranger because of the way Lionell was smiling brightly as he approached her.
“Your Highness.”
“Lionell.”
“Your Highness. I will help you become Emperor. With all my might.”
“Okay.”
“Instead, when you become Emperor, please let me choose the Empress.”
“……I understand.”
He thought Aria wasn’t being sincere, but those words sounded very painful. So he was forcing a smile, but there was no way Aria wouldn’t know that.
“I’ll watch you fall asleep before I go.”
“I want to be alone today.”
“Then, can I come check on you later?”
“……Yes.”
Lionell strode over and kissed Aria on the cheek. And after tidying her disheveled hair, he left the room.
After he left, the balcony door opened with a thud.
“Kyaa!”
“Don’t scream. It’s me, Princess Aria.”
It was Killian who appeared as if he had been waiting for Lionell to leave.
Lionell, who was outside, thought Aria was screaming because of the hawk, and went into his room. Because she heard the sound of his door closing.
Aria opened the door again, checked that no one was in front of it, and then closed her room door.
“What brings you here!”
She scolded him in a whispering voice. Then Killian scoffed and came closer to her.
“How did you get in here? The guards…….”
“Infiltration like this is easy.”
She felt awkward about seeing Killian because of what happened during the day.
On the other hand, Killian had come because of what had happened during the day. He felt uneasy about leaving her in the room with Lionell like this.
“Th-that’s still illegal……. Ah.”
Aria was about to say it was illegal, but she couldn’t continue because she realized that even her kidnapping him was illegal. In the meantime, Killian had crossed the balcony and entered her room. Then, he closed the door and walked towards where she was.
He was wearing different clothes than what he had worn during the day. Something lighter.
Aria stared at him for a moment as if she was bewitched, then lowered her head.
“Wouldn’t practice be necessary?”
“What kind of practice?”
“Didn’t we agree earlier? Before testing something on Melina and me, let’s try it between the two of us.”
“Ah, that’s right.”
“I came because I had a good idea.”
She felt an ominous feeling as Killian smiled and approached her. Yet, she was embarrassed that she didn’t dislike it.
“If it’s effective, just tell me, Aria.”
Aria felt it was unfair, but she thought she had to endure it, remembering her mistake. It seemed like the two of them had drifted apart entirely because of her in the first place.
Of course, his breaking off the engagement was the same as in the original story. But in the original story, he regretted it after breaking off the engagement and realized his feelings for Melina. The current him didn’t seem to have even a speck of regret.
Aria’s initial goal was to restore the relationship between him and Melina, make Lionell the Emperor, and then go down to her territory.
And it wouldn’t be bad to diligently take classes from the Duke and inherit the Dukedom.
It seemed better than being in the capital.
“Okay.”
The thought of leaving made her feel a little better. It was clear that Killian was doing this to her because of his ambition, and one way or another, it seemed like he was doing this because his memories were confused right now.
Besides, even if he was being spiteful to her now, he was the mastermind from the original story. A person who had no choice but to love Melina. If so, then playing along a little now wouldn’t change things much.
Many things had changed, but the temple had been attacked, and the big picture wouldn’t change. The event of him falling in love with Melina again would also proceed as it was.
“Aria.”
“Yes.”
He took Aria’s hand and led her to the bed. She was tired, so she thought it was better that he led her to the bed.
“Like last time, I’ll stay by your side until you fall asleep.”
“Then, will you do this for Young Lady Melina as well?”
“If Aria says it’s effective.”
She avoided his eyes at those words. Even if she closed her eyes, it was useless because the violet eyes that remained imprinted on the inside of her eyelids came to mind.
He smiled contentedly when he saw that Aria was still wearing her dress.
At the same time, Aria also remembered that she was wearing her dress and opened her eyes again.
“Please wait a moment. I need to call a maid to change my clothes.”
“Like last time, I will help you.”
She was about to refuse, but she remembered that nothing unusual had happened when she had asked him last time, so she said,
“You can’t play strange pranks like last time, okay?”
“Yes.”
She remembered when he had lost his memories, and while taking off Aria’s corset, he had written letters on her back with his cold hand. She was so embarrassed at that time that she couldn’t react properly. Determined not to be caught off guard like that this time, she turned her back as if she had made up her mind.
“Please hold my hair a bit.”
“……Yes.”
Aria held her hair to one side and waited for his touch.
Killian soon reached out and began to undo the hook behind her neck.
“Aria.”
“Yes.”
“I said this before, but don’t get close to Melina.”
“Why?”
“I can’t explain in detail, but Melina is different from what she appears to be.”
Aria didn’t know why he was saying that, so she turned around without realizing it. Killian’s expression, which she saw when she turned around, looked somehow serious.
“She was Killian’s fiancée, wasn’t she?”
“That wasn’t my will.”
He said that and took off her outer dress. Aria left the clothes that had fallen to her feet as they were. This time, he was taking off her corset, and his hands were still cold, so the sensation was clear even though it was felt through the clothes.
“When I followed Young Lady Melina before.”
“Yes.”
“Why did you try to stop me then?”
“I had an ominous feeling.”
Aria waited because it seemed like he was taking his time taking off her corset like last time. The fabric rustled as it rubbed against her, and her body was swaying this way and that as he led her.
Perhaps because his body was right behind her, her face was burning even though he was just taking off her clothes.
“Why did you have that feeling when she was your fiancée?”
“I have a good sense of things. Even without my memories, I know those things.”
Aria didn’t ask any more questions because it seemed like he wasn’t going to tell her properly again.
“Aria.”
“Yes.”
“Do you know that the way Aria looks at Your Highness is different from the way she looks at other people?”
“How is it different?”
“It’s like you’re looking at Your Highness as if you’ve committed a sin.”
Aria, realizing once again that he had a good sense of things, decided to shut her mouth completely.
The corset strings were pulled tight and then loosened again, and it was repeated, but somehow it felt like his voice and breathing were being heard right next to her ear.
“Then, how is it different when you look at Killian?”
“It’s different, isn’t it?”
“How is it different?”
He stopped taking off her clothes and turned her body around.
“I wonder.”
“Ah……?”
He stroked Aria’s hair and then grabbed the back of her neck. Then he pulled her towards him again. Aria reflexively turned her head. Then his lips touched her neck.
“Ugh…….”
“You have to endure it, Aria.”
Killian said that and clasped Aria’s hands together. So she couldn’t escape.
