Ch 47
Aria trembled as she looked at the red eyes approaching her. She turned her head to avoid his lips.
“Do you dislike it?”
“……I don’t want to.”
Lionell was disappointed that she was avoiding him like that. At the same time, he smiled bitterly, realizing that he was not in a position to be disappointed.
“Then, will you pierce my ear?”
“……Yes.”
She looked at the tools he had placed on the table. Then, she slowly soaked a cotton ball in alcohol, just as he had done before. Smelling the pungent scent, Aria brushed his ear.
“Ugh…….”
He felt good because of the coolness and because she was sitting on the sofa, focused on him. Her knees were touching his thighs, and she was half-kneeling, touching his ear, which made him feel strangely aroused.
“Aria.”
“Yes?”
“You have to wipe it thoroughly. That way, it won’t get infected.”
“Yes.”
She listened to his words and wiped his ear very diligently.
His ear tingled, but when he looked at her bright blue eyes, he felt something other than tingling. It was like looking at something very secretive, luscious, and appetizing.
“What did you do next?”
“You sterilize the awl with fire.”
“Yes.”
Aria watched him light the fire. The alcohol lamp was lit, and the blue flame was quite beautiful.
He thought she wouldn’t be good at sterilizing the awl, so he took the awl instead and heated it over the fire. As long white smoke rose, he shook the awl as if to shake it off.
Then he handed it to her.
“What if I can’t pierce it?”
“Then, well, you won’t be able to sleep tonight.”
“Ah…….”
Aria took the awl, determined to pierce his ear, and approached him with a resolute expression.
“Will you do it?”
“Yes.”
As she grabbed his ear and focused, he felt like his ear was getting hot. Aria was staring intently with a determined expression, but she just looked cute, like an angry rabbit.
Then, as if she had made up her mind, she pressed the awl against his ear.
“……This isn’t working?”
“You can’t do it so gently. Do it harder.”
“Yes.”
Aria was flustered because his ear didn’t pierce even though she had clearly pressed down. Moreover, a small red spot appeared, which made it even scarier.
She took a deep breath and pressed down on his ear again.
“It’s not working?”
“Harder.”
“Ugh.”
Aria pressed down on the awl with an almost crying face. But his ear only turned red and didn’t pierce.
“I can’t do it!”
“Puhuh.”
He burst out laughing because of Aria, who was almost about to cry.
“Puhuh…….”
Aria looked at him with a resentful face. Then he smiled and grabbed her wrist, pulling it down.
“Do you want to do it tomorrow?”
“……Yes.”
She was somehow too tired and didn’t think she could do it anymore.
“Okay, then.”
However, he saw that her eyes were red, and he didn’t want to torment her anymore, so he decided to let her go.
“Your Highness.”
“Yes.”
“Have a good dream.”
“Give me a kiss on the cheek.”
“That’s not allowed.”
“Okay.”
He reluctantly took the awl that Aria was holding and placed it on the table. Then, he followed her to her room as she got up.
“Aria.”
“Yes?”
The moment she opened the door to go inside, he called out to her. Aria turned around at his call and looked at Lionell.
“Have a good dream, my wife.”
“Hot…….”
He kissed her on the cheek and then stepped back with a smile.
Aria was flustered, but she couldn’t say anything, so she just opened the door and went inside.
She felt somehow embarrassed. At that moment.
—Squawk!
“Ah…….”
She looked at the hawk preening its wings in the room and became nervous again.
Then, she took off her clothes and lay down on the bed. She then rolled the bed sheet lengthwise and tied it to the bed legs and her legs.
Aria closed her eyes like that.
◈◈◈
Lionell woke up from his sleep with a start, hearing a thumping sound from somewhere.
The sound of something hitting was irregular and continuous, and the sound was strange. It was coming from a place a little away from his room.
The closest place to his room was Aria’s room. The Dolorein Duke’s room was also on the third floor, but geographically it was a bit far, so there was no way that the sound coming from there could be heard in his room.
Lionell, who had thought that far, threw off the blanket and put his legs down from the bed. He opened the door in a hurry, forgetting to put on his slippers.
When he stood in front of Aria’s door, he couldn’t hear the thumping sound from before.
He didn’t want to wake her up, so he just stood there. He was just going to check if the sound was coming again or not, or if the sound was really coming from Aria’s room, and then turn around.
Then, thump again.
Thump.
Thump.
Wondering what on earth this sound was, Lionell tried to open her door. But he couldn’t open it because the door was locked.
He thought that he couldn’t open the door recklessly because he wasn’t married to her yet, but he couldn’t just stand by while such a sound was being made.
He took a flower from a ceramic vase that was placed in a niche in the wall next to Aria’s room and emitted aura around the flower. Then, he cut off the lock of her room.
With a ‘click’ sound, the door slid open.
He threw the flower roughly on the floor and slowly opened the door.
—Thump, thump.
He now knew why that sound was being made.
“Aria.”
It was because Aria, who had sleepwalking, was trying to get up and kept falling over.
He approached Aria without being surprised. She was trying to move forward but kept falling because her ankles were tied with the sheet.
As she tried to get up and walk again.
“Aria.”
He caught Aria, who was about to fall again.
He patted Aria’s back, who was fidgeting in his arms.
“It’s okay.”
He already knew. The Dolorein Duke had told him on the day he brought the proposal letter.
Moreover, Lionell knew why she had this illness. It was clear that it was because of the Dolorein Duchess, who had left her.
Lionell knew Aria well. Even when she was following him around, saying she loved him, he couldn’t take his eyes off her, even though he disliked it. That was why he didn’t see Aria differently because she had sleepwalking.
It was just that he had vaguely known about it and had it confirmed by the Dolorein Duke, and now he had just seen it with his own eyes.
What had changed was the size of the feeling he was experiencing.
When he heard about it, he felt sorry, but seeing it in person made his heart ache. He wondered if this was why Aria kept rejecting him.
The Crown Princess is someone who will soon become the Empress. The Empress is a person who discusses state affairs with the Emperor. If it becomes known that she has a flaw, it will affect even him, the Crown Prince.
He thought that the way Aria loved him might have changed.
But the way he loved her had also changed. The relationship that he had thought was familiar and boring after seeing it for so long was not actually like that. He had only been distancing himself from her because he was not used to his own feelings.
It was his fault that Aria was showing abnormal behavior.
That was why he didn’t like that Aria was hiding this from him.
He suddenly remembered the day Aria tried to kidnap him.
‘I really am going to give up on Your Highness now.’
‘What?’
‘I can understand if Your Highness loves another woman. I was foolish. I should have accepted that my heart and Your Highness’s heart could be different.’
He somehow found it strange that Aria was looking at him straight in the eye and crying.
Aria had done many things to drop the women who were always around him by acting badly towards them. But never before had she ever said that she would give up on him first.
‘I hope Your Highness will be happy.’
‘What are you talking about?’
‘It’s as I said. If Your Highness can be happy with another woman, I’m going to give up on Your Highness.’
At that moment, Aria kissed him.
It was true that he had distanced himself because he didn’t understand the actions she had shown him all this time. That was why he had forgotten even that he had loved her when he was young.
‘This is my first kiss.’
Aria said that and smiled with a tearful face.
He vaguely knew that she had pretended to bring bed slaves into her bedroom to get his attention. Because it was also true that she had only loved him, even though she had always acted like a crazy person.
‘I’m sorry for everything.’
‘Aria.’
She left the ropes and medicine that she had brought to kidnap him there and turned around and left.
Lionell had never thought that she would leave him and live somewhere else. Even if he didn’t pay any attention to her, Aria was always there.
Getting angry for him, doing her best for him.
Even if she was angry, she would foolishly calm down if he held her hand.
What was the feeling when he realized that that person was disappearing from him?
‘Don’t go.’
‘…….’
‘Aria, just a moment!’
But she didn’t let him catch her. She ignored him, walked to the carriage, and left first.
He realized it at that moment.
The weight of her favor and love that he had been enjoying so comfortably.
And that he had just been comfortable with her love, to the point that he was already used to it and didn’t realize it. That his heart was the same as hers.
That he had just not known because he had turned away from it, saying that it was frustrating and didn’t fit.
‘Your Highness, please look at me just once, okay?’
Because that was how Aria cried. He thought that even if she was angry now, she would accept him if he went to her again, begged for forgiveness, and asked her to accept him.
After she left, his heart felt strange. It was pounding with excitement, but at the same time, he was filled with anxiety that this might really be the end.
Since that day, he had developed a habit of touching his lips whenever he thought of her.
“Aria.”
He pushed his thoughts aside and picked up another flower from the table next to the bed. The flower was a white rose. Holding it, he cut off the cloth that was wrapped around her ankle.
“You can sleep without worry.”
Her half-opened eyes looked at him. He smiled brightly as he looked at her unfocused eyes. Then, he lifted Aria and moved her onto the bed.
She slowly closed her half-opened eyes as he pulled the blanket up to her chin and patted her stomach.
Soon, he was relieved when he heard her soft breathing.
He looked at Aria’s sleeping face and felt like he wanted to kiss her. But he didn’t because she was still afraid of him.
A twisted relationship cannot be straightened by pulling on it. Rather, it will only become more firmly tangled.
He really wanted to redefine his relationship with Aria, so he suppressed his own wicked desires and looked down at her.
Her pretty eyes and sharp nose, and red lips that he had seen when he was young. Her beauty was still the same, and her flustered appearance was also cute.
Everything had returned to the time he had wished for, so now all that was left to return was his relationship with Aria.
That’s what he thought.
“Have a good dream.”
And he brushed the hair off her forehead and touched the tip of her nose with his hand.
Lionell looked down at Aria with a full smile, as she wrinkled her nose at his finger, which was cute.
And there was one more person watching the two of them affectionately near the bed.
Because the balcony door was open, watching from the outside.
Killian was watching it without going inside, completely suppressing his presence.
He had returned, remembering that Aria couldn’t sleep alone.
But another man was in her room, next to her.
Killian clenched his fist without realizing it and bit his lip.
