Ch 89: Disappointing Her
Before Song Ge’er could speak, Yuan Xueyue reached out and lifted his chin, examining his complexion and the injuries on his body. There was some dust on his belly, and his loose, dark hair was slightly disheveled.
Yuan Xueyue knew that Song Ge’er wouldn’t easily accuse his two older brothers. She wondered, how could she determine their guilt?
Yuan Xueyue lowered her hand and looked at Xing Ge’er and Ji Ge’er, asking,
“At that time, Song Ge’er was already in the study. How did you get in?”
Ji Ge’er trembled slightly, unsure how to make an excuse.
Xing Ge’er gritted his teeth and said,
“Your son went in first to hide, and waited for Third Younger Brother. I dozed off and was discovered.”
Yuan Xueyue asked again, “After that, why did you pull his hair and punch him?”
At these words, Xing Ge’er suddenly raised his head.
Mother knew everything? She saw it?
Of course, Yuan Xueyue knew. Judging by the signs, the maids’ accounts, and the temperaments of the two brothers, they definitely laid hands on Song Ge’er.
Fortunately, Song Ge’er didn’t back down and promptly called for the maids.
Otherwise, what kind of mistake would have been made!
Song Ge’er hadn’t spoken to complain, yet Yuan Xueyue began questioning them. Ji Ge’er panicked and immediately explained,
“No! Mother, we didn’t hit Third Younger Brother, we were just concerned about him! If you don’t believe it, ask him!”
Ji Ge’er frantically pointed at Song Ge’er, their eyes meeting, seemingly threatening him not to speak!
Song Ge’er pursed his lips, hesitating.
Yuan Xueyue seized the opportunity to pull Song Ge’er in front of her, facing him, and said,
“Don’t be afraid, speak boldly about what they did to you. Mother will stand up for you.”
Song Ge’er’s eyes instantly lit up. Would Mother really help him?
Xing Ge’er’s eyes widened, extremely frightened and worried. If he defended himself, would Mother believe him?
Seeing that Mother was about to listen to Song Ge’er, Ji Ge’er hurriedly pushed Xing Ge’er, who was kneeling beside him, and said,
“Say something! We didn’t hit him, did we? We just saw him writing alone, so we went in to accompany him. We were just playing a trick and fooling around!”
“He’s fine, we didn’t touch him!”
Ji Ge’er’s lies came out effortlessly, which made Xing Ge’er unable to accept.
Yuan Xueyue’s tone suddenly turned cold,
“Didn’t touch him? Do you really think I have no eyes?”
Cuiping also said, “Two Young Masters, don’t think Madam can’t see clearly. Confess truthfully, don’t make Madam interrogate you personally!”
At this moment, Xing Ge’er clenched his clothes tightly and said, “Mother…”
“Your son did not bully Third Younger Brother.”
After hesitating for a long time, Xing Ge’er still chose to lie.
Yuan Xueyue’s heart turned cold.
Ji Ge’er, however, breathed a sigh of relief. This Second Brother was finally a good partner!
Yuan Xueyue narrowed her eyes, staring intently at Xing Ge’er, and said, “Look up at me, look at Mother.”
Xing Ge’er was stunned, but obediently raised his head, his eager eyes full of deceit.
He was gambling that Mother would believe him!
Yuan Xueyue asked again, “Xing Ge’er, say it again, did you really not bully Song Ge’er?”
“If you tell the truth, you will still be Mother’s good son. If you lie, Mother will no longer acknowledge you in her heart. Think carefully.”
“Your Husband’s Sister from Peach Apricot Pavilion next door has returned. She is your mother. Sooner or later, she will want you back. Have you thought about it? Who do you acknowledge? In the end, what you say, what you do, what will your future be like?”
“If you still acknowledge me, say it again.”
Yuan Xueyue’s voice was solemn and loud, echoing in Xing Ge’er’s mind.
His heart was anxious and conflicted, torn between his fantasy and his reason!
He thought that the mother in front of him would be a good mother for a lifetime…
Ji Ge’er also swallowed nervously, “Hurry up and speak, Mother is waiting.”
After a while, Xing Ge’er lowered his head again and said,
“Your son, did not!”
◈◈◈
“…”
Xing Ge’er, had once again disappointed her.
Ji Ge’er hurriedly said, “Mother, we really didn’t!”
But Yuan Xueyue made Song Ge’er open his mouth, there was a bloody taste inside. She lifted his clothes, and there were some bruises on his belly and chest!
Such obvious evidence, in front of the brothers, were just child’s play!
Did they really think Yuan Xueyue wouldn’t investigate and reveal the truth?
It was ridiculous.
Ji Ge’er was shocked and immediately kowtowed, begging for mercy, “Mother! Your son was wrong!”
Xing Ge’er was stunned, not expecting Song Ge’er’s skin to be so thin, easily leaving marks.
Yuan Xueyue looked at the two of them coldly, her heart already chilled.
Guo Zisong was younger than them and physically weaker. He was more suited to studying literature. He had not eaten well for years, and his flesh was now loose. There were many reasons, and even one of them would leave a mark.
Moreover, the two brothers were the energetic type. They had no energy when writing with a brush, but they were more excited than anyone when going out to stroll and fight crickets!
Compared to them, Song Ge’er naturally couldn’t win.
Cuiping took a look and exclaimed, “Ah! How could you hit Third Young Master?”
Now, it was up to Yuan Xueyue to decide how to handle it.
Immediately, the maids brought the family punishment tools, the ones Old Madam had used last time when she questioned Yuan Xueyue about Xing Ge’er’s studies.
This time, Yuan Xueyue doubled it!
The servants couldn’t bear it and wanted to go easy, but Cuiping was watching. Ji Ge’er was beaten with the board until he screamed!
Xing Ge’er, however, bit his lip tightly, refusing to make a sound!
He had lost. Mother was disappointed in him…
Under the eaves, Yuan Xueyue sat and continued to check Song Ge’er’s body for other injuries. Fortunately, there were only some bruises, some internal injuries, and some grievances.
But this anger had to be vented for Song Ge’er!
Ji Ge’er screamed in pain,
“Ah ah ah! Mother, Mother! Your son knows he was wrong! Please, Mother, tell them to stop hitting, wu uwuu wuu…”
Xing Ge’er bit his lip until it bled, refusing to cry out. Tears slid down from the corners of his eyes. Compared to the pain on his body, the grievance in his heart was even more painful.
Mother no longer had him in her heart…
Occasionally, maids passed by Liyuan Garden, heard the commotion inside, and hurried to inform Zhongsi Hall.
Coincidentally, Guo Liangxian and Madam Nian were discussing Yuan Xueyue’s handling of the manor. Guo Liangxian was quite satisfied and had no doubts.
Madam Nian also repeatedly praised her, thinking that this daughter-in-law was good at managing the household and handling accounts. No wonder she was the daughter of the Prefect, a well-educated and refined young woman from Lucheng!
Unexpectedly, just as they finished talking, Mama Cui led a maid in and said,
“Old Madam, General! Madam is carrying out the family punishment on Eldest Young Master and Second Young Master in Liyuan Garden!”
It was a type of punishment at the lower end of the family law, relatively mild and not fatal. It was used to intimidate disobedient servants and to establish authority.
But for the pampered brothers, it could punish their mischievous nature!
In the past, Yuan Xueyue wouldn’t have taken action.
She would have let them be, and they wouldn’t have threatened her in any way. But now that Song Ge’er was here, it was truly wrong for them to lay hands on him!
Just after the beating, a group of people appeared outside Liyuan Garden.
Madam Nian, Guo Liangxian, maids, servants, and others all came.
