Ch 37: Ambush on the Road
Less than three miles from the City Gate, Chu Qiu’s footsteps suddenly halted, his gaze fixed on a conspicuous boulder not far ahead.
A faint, cold smile appeared on his lips, but he remained silent, standing still as his aura blended with the surrounding environment.
In this unusually silent atmosphere, an invisible undercurrent quietly stirred, and the air was thick with the tension of an impending storm.
“What, you found us?”
A slightly effeminate voice, laced with provocation, echoed out. Then, two figures emerged silently from behind the boulder.
Chen Che’s eyes flashed with resentment as he stared intensely at Chu Qiu, his gaze as if to carve the other’s image into his very bones, unforgettable for all eternity.
Chu Qiu wasn’t surprised by his appearance. He had long sensed the deep-seated hatred, but he didn’t expect to encounter him here.
The Man in Black beside him was expressionless, his black robes swaying gently in the breeze, exuding a chilling aura of death that made one’s blood run cold.
“God Generals…”
Chu Qiu murmured softly, his heart sinking as a grave look flashed in his eyes.
He knew something about this mysterious and powerful organization from Fang Tian Ce, and had even personally killed a member of the “God Generals.”
He never expected that Chen Che would join forces with the “God Generals.” The implications made him wary.
“Chu Qiu, didn’t expect it, did you, that we’d meet again so soon.”
A ferocious grin spread across Chen Che’s face, filled with triumph, as if he already foresaw Chu Qiu’s defeat and demise, filling his heart with immense satisfaction.
Chu Qiu narrowed his eyes slightly: “I truly didn’t expect that you would join forces with the ‘God Generals’. Truly, people eat meat, dogs eat s*it; birds of a feather flock together.”
Chen Che’s face instantly turned ashen. He glared at Chu Qiu, wishing he could devour him alive: “Chu Qiu, today, I will let you know the consequences of offending me!”
Chu Qiu shook his head gently, his gaze filled with pity: “A dog that bites doesn’t bark. I advise you to save your strength, or you won’t even get to eat warm s*it!”
Chen Che’s emotions finally snapped, his voice becoming hoarse with rage: “Chu Qiu, why don’t you respect me? Why did you beat and scold my brother? And why did you steal Fang Yan from me?”
He listed Chu Qiu’s three major offenses in one breath, each word carrying a weight of resentment, pouring out all his anger.
The Man in Black was stunned upon hearing this, looking at Chen Che with a profound gaze. Even as a member of the “God Generals,” these reasons sounded absurd to him.
Chu Qiu glanced at him indifferently, a mocking smile on his lips: “Oh? Just these? Then you are truly pathetic, pitiable, and lamentable. A useless dessert!”
Chen Che was taken aback. He didn’t expect Chu Qiu to be so indifferent, feeling like he was just a joke in the other’s eyes. He gritted his teeth: “Yes! Just these! Do you acknowledge them?”
“I acknowledge them.” Chu Qiu nodded, a hint of playfulness in his tone, “Is that enough? If not, I’ll add another one for you—you, Chen Che, are a waste, a bastard born without a father!”
“You!”
Chen Che trembled with anger, glaring at Chu Qiu, his eyes almost spitting fire, wanting to burn him to ashes.
“Sir, please take action and help me kill this wretch!”
Chen Che bowed to the Man in Black, his tone filled with entreaty. At this moment, the other was his only savior.
“Chu Qiu, you are very clever.” The Man in Black didn’t answer him, but looked at Chu Qiu expressionlessly, his gaze as deep as an abyss, “However, clever people don’t live long, especially clever people like you who like to meddle in other people’s business.”
“Thank you for the compliment!”
Chu Qiu smiled slightly, his expression still calm and composed, treating the other’s threat like a fart, afraid of getting tired!
Then, he pointed at Chen Che and then at the Man in Black: “Relying on this waste? And you, this guy who hides his head and shows his tail?”
“Chen Che, don’t you think it would be more satisfying to take revenge on your own?”
The Man in Black didn’t answer, but looked at Chen Che with a smile that wasn’t a smile, his eyes revealing a hint of expectation.
“Alright! Please watch the battle, sir, and see me kill this brat!”
Upon hearing this, a glint flashed in Chen Che’s eyes, as if he already saw the moment he personally avenged himself and the enemy’s head fell to the ground.
He understood the Man in Black’s meaning, but didn’t refuse. He also wanted to prove himself in order to gain a place in the “God Generals” in the future.
Moreover, the Man in Black was right. How could borrowing someone else’s hand be as satisfying as doing it himself? Today, he would make Chu Qiu pay for his blood debt!
“Chu Qiu, today is your death day!”
Chen Che looked at Chu Qiu, his eyes intertwined with resentment and killing intent, his voice echoing in the cold wind, carrying an undeniable determination.
As soon as the words fell, he no longer hesitated. He moved his fingers slightly, chanting a spell, and a Grey Wolf covered in grayish-white fur appeared out of thin air beside him.
The Grey Wolf’s size was almost comparable to a wild bull, its pair of eerie green eyes flashing with a ghastly light, and viscous saliva constantly dripping from its mouth.
It stared intently at Chu Qiu, its eyes filled with primal wildness and a bloodthirsty desire, as if it wanted to devour Chu Qiu alive.
“Like father, like son; like beast, like master. Haven’t seen you for a few days, did you two crossbreed?”
Chu Qiu was suddenly stunned. Compared to the time of the contract ceremony, the Grey Wolf’s change could be described as worlds apart, exuding a dark aura.
“Chu Qiu, summon your Contracted Beast! Otherwise, you can only choose between death and being half-dead!”
Chen Che looked at Chu Qiu smugly, mocking loudly, trying to bolster his own confidence.
Seeing this, Chu Qiu’s eyes turned cold. Killing one young master wasn’t a loss; killing two young masters was a profit. He was too lazy to continue arguing with him.
Diting narrowed its eyes slightly and appeared beside Chu Qiu, emitting a faint pressure that instantly suppressed the Grey Wolf’s aura.
Chen Che’s face instantly turned extremely ugly, his voice filled with disbelief: “What kind of Contracted Beast is this? You…”
At this moment, he woke up from his dream and finally recognized reality, realizing that Chu Qiu was no longer the same as before, and he was far inferior.
The Man in Black also narrowed his eyes slightly. He could clearly feel the pressure emanating from Diting, which was by no means comparable to ordinary Contracted Beasts. He couldn’t help but reassess Chu Qiu’s strength in his heart.
Chu Qiu didn’t answer Chen Che’s words, but just stared at him coldly. Diting let out a low roar, and its figure flashed, rushing towards the Grey Wolf like an arrow released from a bow.
Seeing this, the Grey Wolf also refused to be outdone, letting out a deafening howl, and instantly collided with Diting.
The energy fluctuations between the two instantly erupted, sweeping around like a violent storm.
“Bang!”
Diting’s figure flashed, dodging the Grey Wolf’s pounce, and at the same time, it struck out with a claw, heavily hitting the Grey Wolf’s side. The power of the claw caused the air to tremble.
“Awoo!”
The Grey Wolf let out a miserable scream in pain, and its entire body was sent flying, crashing heavily into a boulder beside it.
“Boom!”
With a loud bang, the boulder instantly shattered into pieces, and the flying gravel fell like raindrops, and bursts of white smoke rose from the ground.
Diting’s figure was as fast as lightning, pressing forward. Each of its attacks was precise and deadly, reaping the Grey Wolf’s life like the Grim Reaper’s scythe.
“Bang!”
“Bang!”
“Bang!”
Accompanied by bursts of loud noises and the sound of bones breaking, the Grey Wolf continued to emit painful wails.
Its eyes were filled with pain and despair, and its body gradually lost its strength, and could only lie on the ground panting helplessly, looking at Chen Che as if begging for help.
A hint of boredom flashed in Diting’s eyes, and it opened its mouth, spitting out a blazing Flame Storm, instantly engulfing it.
The Grey Wolf struggled, rolled, and wailed in the Flame Storm, but it could not escape this cage of death.
In the end, it was completely swallowed by the flames, turning into a pile of burning ashes, and the air was filled with a pungent smell of burnt stench.
