Ch 19: Beiping Chong Wang
Lin Tian returned home and saw Qing Yi frantically chasing Nannan.
Nannan’s face was covered in mud, her whole body was dirty, she was holding a big fish in her arms, stuffing her little hand into the fish’s mouth, and giggling.
When Qing Yi saw Lin Tian, she immediately felt aggrieved; she couldn’t control her, she just couldn’t control her.
Lin Tian also had a bitter face: “Nannan!”
“Daddy!”
Nannan put down the fish in her hand, trotted over, and like a monkey, she jumped onto Lin Tian. Seeing this, Lin Tian’s expression darkened, and he pressed her down with one hand.
Lin Tian now regretted giving her the attribute. If this continued, he was afraid the house would be torn down.
“Qing Yi, take Nannan to wash up.”
Pang Tong, who was panting and chopping wood to the side, was ignored by him. Lin Tian would definitely not accept a disciple casually.
The first thing he looked for in a disciple was his perseverance, the second was his nature, and the third was whether he respected his master and valued the Dao.
The sky was approaching dusk, the setting sun was like blood, dyeing the horizon a patch of orange-red.
Lin Tian made the food and had Qing Yi send a portion to Fang Qingxue in the side room. Fang Qingxue had hardly left the room since she arrived.
Lin Tian also told Pang Tong that Fang Qingxue was with him, but her condition was not very good, so he asked him to tell the Dragon Guards to take her away.
Lin Tian knew how important appearance was to a woman, so he didn’t interfere with this matter and left it all to Qing Yi.
The same was true at Pang Shan’s house. Pang Shan was busy all day, and when he came home from work, his wife had already prepared the meal and was waiting for him to return.
Pang Shan removed the heavy knife box from his body and laughed when he saw the table full of dishes.
“Niangzi made a real feast today, there’s even meat.”
The Madam was all smiles, her cheeks with a hint of blush: “Wash your hands first, and taste my stir-fried pork with green peppers.”
“Alright.”
Pang Shan had the idea of letting his son become a disciple ever since he first met Lin Tian.
The subsequent few times further confirmed his idea of becoming a disciple. The main reason was that his son could eat too much, and his monthly salary was only enough to eat for half a month.
The Madam asked in a low voice, “What if that Lin Tian goes back on his word?”
Pang Shan signaled her to rest assured: “He shouldn’t. Brother Lin is highly skilled. Since he said it, he definitely won’t go back on his word so easily.”
“Even if our son isn’t cut out for it, at least he can learn almost enough. When the time comes to go back on his word, we’ll let him set up his own business and earn silver to support himself.”
The Madam breathed a sigh of relief: “That’s right, our son can eat too much, the grain in our house isn’t enough for him alone. I panic every day when it’s time to eat.”
It wasn’t difficult for Pang Shan to have enough to eat, but he couldn’t stand the unstable salary. For the past few months, he had relied entirely on his Niangzi’s family to borrow.
The two were chatting when suddenly the door was pushed open by Pang Tong. He was drenched in sweat, and his clothes were covered in wood shavings.
When the two saw their son return, their expressions all darkened and they wore bitter faces.
Pang Tong shuddered all over when he saw his parents like this.
“I… I’ve eaten. The Master said to let me go earlier tomorrow.”
As he spoke, he ran away directly. He glanced at the food on the table; it couldn’t compare to the Master’s house.
The Master’s house had two meat dishes and a soup for every meal, either chicken or elbow, while his own house was all clear soup and little water.
What kind of hard life did I, Pang Tong, live before? My parents are too good to me, they found me a Master, I must be filial to them in the future.
When the two heard that Pang Tong had eaten, their expressions finally softened. The two were afraid that Lin Tian wouldn’t let their son eat there. Their son’s appetite was there for all to see, but now it seemed they had worried too much.
Madam Pang shouted: “Look at how dirty you are, wash up properly, and remember to go early tomorrow. Niang won’t prepare your breakfast.”
“This child, I thought he was going to snatch my food, scared me to death. What kind of behavior is this, all flustered?”
————————
The sky gradually darkened.
The back courtyard of the County Government.
County Magistrate Chen Bufan was sitting alone in his study, looking at the white silver placed on the table, and he smiled.
Every time night fell, he would come here to enjoy it, to look at his gold and silver jewelry. It wasn’t a lot, but it was definitely enough for him to spend the rest of his life.
Bang!
Suddenly, a stone hit the window and flew in. Chen Bufan was startled by the sudden movement and quickly covered the silver with his hand.
The patrolling yamen runners outside heard the movement and rushed over here.
Chen Bufan’s face turned ugly: “How unreasonable, daring to throw stones at the County Government. Who is so bold?”
He quickly put away the silver before looking at the stone on the ground. He saw a red rope tied to the stone, with a piece of paper attached.
Chen Bufan picked up the stone, untied the red rope, and then opened the paper. He saw four big characters written on the back of the paper: Beiping Chong Wang.
Chen Bufan looked at the words on the paper, from incomprehension to shock, and then to rage.
“How unreasonable, daring to say he’ll take my dog’s head.”
“How unreasonable!”
“How unreasonable!”
Chen Bufan was panting with anger. He had been a County Magistrate for so many years, and it was the first time he had been threatened, and he didn’t even know who it was.
Who is this Beiping Chong Wang? Is there such a person in the Martial World?
Then Chen Bufan slammed the table: “Someone! Find Master Xu Wei for me.”
………………
After a while, Master Xu Wei arrived.
Chen Bufan sat in the chair, the anger on his face not yet dissipated, and handed the paper to Master Xu Wei.
Xu Wei carefully looked at the words written on the paper, his brows also slightly furrowed.
He already understood the content of the paper. In all likelihood, it was another silly old man with deep resentment towards the Imperial Court and overflowing with a sense of justice.
Chen Bufan snorted coldly: “These lawless and rebellious people really think of themselves as heroes.”
“To put it nicely, they are heroes, to put it bluntly, they are criminals and lowly people.”
“Xu Wei, what do you think?”
Xu Wei pursed his lips: “Lord, you will be returning home in glory in two months. There is no need to make enemies with these desperate people.”
“For these people, the law is just a formality in their eyes. Moreover, regarding the matter written on the paper, I think Peng Lao Er is dead, so let’s release the mother and son.”
“When the time comes, operate a bit and let everyone think that the Lord loves the people like his own children. This way, you will neither offend this Beiping Chong Wang nor earn enough fame.”
After hearing this, the expression on Chen Bufan’s face gradually relaxed, and he even felt a little happy.
“You’re right, let’s do it this way. But…”
After saying that, Chen Bufan’s expression changed a second time, becoming gloomy and indifferent.
He was at least a County Magistrate, an official appointed by the Imperial Court. If every Tom, D*ck, and Harry came to step on him, then what was the point of being a County Magistrate?
“Send someone to Listening Wind Pavilion.”
“Give me this Beiping Chong Wang, make up a story, the more exaggerated the better, whether it’s good or bad, spread it all, I want his name to spread throughout the entire northern region.”
Chen Bufan laughed sinisterly.
Xu Wei also understood why the County Magistrate did this. People are afraid of becoming famous, and pigs are afraid of getting fat. Let this so-called Beiping hero, Chong Wang, be notorious.
Once he becomes famous, trouble will naturally come to his door. This move is quite ruthless.
