After Crossing Over, I Just Want to Live Well – Chapter 3

Ch 3: Binding with the System

Ch 3: Binding with the System

“Duoduo, this is where I found you back then. Look, this is the mark your escape pod left when it crashed.”

Seeing where Yu Duoduo was standing, Shi Yichen seemed to recall something. He excitedly grabbed her and started talking non-stop.

Was this guy a chatterbox? How could he talk so much?

Though she inwardly found Shi Yichen’s chatter annoying, amidst his incessant jabbering, Yu Duoduo actually remembered something about the red metal.

This red metal was something she’d bought from an antique stall before crossing over. At the time, she’d found it strangely appealing, so she added a chain and wore it on her body.

But how had it followed her here? She had clearly only transmigrated with her soul!

“Ding~” A mechanical sound rang in Yu Duoduo’s mind, startling the unprepared girl. The red metal slipped from her hand and fell.

She didn’t hear the sound of metal hitting the ground. Yu Duoduo looked around but couldn’t find any trace of the red metal.

“Host, how could you just throw me away like that? Good thing I reacted fast, or even if I didn’t shatter, I’d at least have cracked. That was a carrier I bought with a huge investment!”

“Host? Are you talking to me? Are you one of those golden finger systems that come with transmigration?”

Yu Duoduo was utterly shocked. Though she spent most of her time studying medicine, she occasionally read novels to unwind. She loved stories about systems and space the most.

“What kind of system are you? When did you bind with me?”

“Host, I’m a Library System. I was originally on vacation, traveling, when something hit me and I fell onto the Blue Star where you used to live. Someone picked me up and sold me as an antique, and that’s how you ended up buying me.

You were always reading books, so studious. My energy was almost fully charged by you. Sigh! Who knew you’d manage to get yourself killed during a vacation?

I had no choice but to use all my energy to revive you. Originally, after reviving you, we’d be even, but then your blood dripped onto my carrier, and that’s how we ended up bound together!”

The system spoke in a childish voice. If Yu Duoduo could see it, she’d surely spot a little bundle with oversized glasses, sitting there bawling its eyes out.

The system was heartbroken too. Who had it offended while on vacation? Knocked down to Blue Star, it had nearly recharged its energy when it got bound to a host, forced to end its vacation early.

It still had 100 years of vacation left—where was it supposed to go cry about that?

“Wait, if you’re bound to me, why were you still thrown out here?”

Hearing this, the system, which had been quietly sobbing in a corner, stopped crying and went full volume. “It’s because you were too weak! I’d just found you a body, and you passed out right away. It cost me the last of my energy to help you, and I couldn’t enter your consciousness temporarily, so I had to stay in my carrier.

But once you’ve recovered in a while, I’ll be back by your side.”

“So, you’re in my consciousness right now?” Yu Duoduo asked uncertainly.

“Of course! You came to me yourself, so I had to save some energy. Once my energy’s full, I can connect with the Main System,” the little system said matter-of-factly.

“In the novels I read, all the systems had names. What’s yours?”

As soon as Yu Duoduo asked, the little system fell silent, its voice turning soft and aggrieved. “I don’t have a name now. I vaguely remember someone gave me one once, but I can’t recall it.”

Yu Duoduo didn’t press further about why it couldn’t remember. It didn’t feel like something a good host should ask.

“How about I give you a name? Let’s call you Tutu,” Yu Duoduo suggested cautiously.

“Great! I really like that name. From now on, Host can call me Tutu too.”

The little system, now named Tutu, perked up instantly upon receiving its name.

After this exchange, the human and system quickly grew familiar with each other.

“Tutu, if you’re in my consciousness, what happened to your carrier?”

“Oh, I turned my carrier into data and brought it into your consciousness too.”

“Wow, so advanced,” Yu Duoduo marveled sincerely.

“Of course! I’m a product of a ninth-level civilization. If I hadn’t been on vacation, you wouldn’t have met me.”

“Yes, yes, meeting Tutu is a blessing I must’ve earned over several lifetimes!” After chatting for a bit, Yu Duoduo realized this system didn’t just sound like a baby—it acted like one too.

She decided to go along with it, and the results were pretty good so far.

“So, Tutu, what does your system do?”

“I’m a Library System. My main job is to let the host study the books in the system and apply that knowledge to life. It can be for yourself or others to use.”

“Isn’t that basically a learning system?”

“No, it’s different! A learning system is just about studying, but my Library System requires both learning and putting it into practice.”

“So your system has higher demands.”

“Exactly, exactly! That’s it!” Hearing Tutu’s cheerful voice, even the slow-to-react Yu Duoduo could tell the system was thrilled.

“Can I start learning now?”

“Yes, yes, of course you can! After scanning these past few days, the system now contains all the knowledge and information of this civilization. Host, you’ve got to start learning fast!”

“Good, good, good! You know I’m great at studying. I’ll make sure your energy fills up quickly.”

The human and system kept hyping each other up, both satisfied and chatting happily.

And so, at the age of three, Yu Duoduo began her learning journey. By day, she followed Shi Yichen, scavenging through garbage heaps; by night, she squeezed in time to study system knowledge.

As time passed, Yu Duoduo noticed that Shi Yichen wasn’t as he appeared in front of her. To other scavengers, he was a quiet, stern-faced young boy.

Though Yu Duoduo went scavenging with him every day, she was small and inexperienced. What she collected wasn’t enough to sustain herself.

Because of this, Shi Yichen often left her alone in their shack. On those days, he’d return very late.

It wasn’t until one day, when Shi Yichen came back covered in blood, that Yu Duoduo learned the truth. Whenever he left her in the shack, he’d go far away to hunt. Though still a minor, his mental power had reached A-level—a top-tier ability on the entire Garbage Star.

Seeing Shi Yichen drenched in blood, Yu Duoduo’s mind went blank, driven by one thought: Shi Yichen couldn’t die. Fortunately, that hunt had been fruitful. After treating his wounds, they had enough supplies to not worry about hunger for at least half a month.

From that day on, Yu Duoduo studied day and night without rest, finally earning her first reward from the system.
