Ch 7: Arrival at the Imperial Star
What kind of face was it? Although the interstellar era didn’t lack handsome men or beautiful women, this face still stood out as exceptional. Add to that the black hair, just like her own, which brought a touch of familiarity. Those purple eyes lent him an air of mystery, and his well-proportioned figure was beyond reproach.
Yu Duoduo wanted to step forward and exchange contact information, but then she considered her current situation. Forget it—fate would bring them together if it was meant to be.
If Jimo Yao knew he had just missed the chance to connect with his future wife, he’d probably have taken the initiative to ask for her contact details himself.
Yu Duoduo quickly forgot about the encounter, while Jimo Yao returned to his warship. Only Lezheng Kexi lingered at that spot for the next few days, hoping his goddess might suddenly show up needing his help.
Thanks to the military escort, the starship arrived at the Imperial Star safely and on time.
Knowing many families would be there to pick up their loved ones, Yu Duoduo wasn’t in a hurry to disembark. She waited until almost everyone had left before leisurely stepping off the starship.
At the pickup area, only a handful of people remained, including Leng Ruoheng and Shi Yichen. Their striking appearances made them a sight to behold.
Among them, Shi Yichen had sharp, defined features, a head of golden hair, and deep blue eyes. In Yu Duoduo’s previous life, he’d have been the quintessential foreign heartthrob.
Add to that his phoenix-like eyes, and Yu Duoduo often found herself mesmerized. Stop it—she couldn’t keep staring. Time to shift her focus!
Yu Duoduo turned her gaze to Leng Ruoheng beside him. His black hair shone glossy and vibrant, and his cheetah-like eyes were cold and piercing. Yet, those golden pupils created a striking contrast—such a contradictory face, but damn if it wasn’t good-looking.
From a distance, Leng Ruoheng and Shi Yichen had already noticed Yu Duoduo approaching. They watched her quietly, and whenever she stared at one of them, the other would catch a smug glance from his rival.
But their silent rivalry didn’t even get started before it stopped—Yu Duoduo had already walked up to them.
“Second Brother, why’s Big Brother here too? Wasn’t he supposed to be handling affairs on Red Second Star?”
Sure, the men were good-looking, but she couldn’t…
“He saw the live broadcast on the Star Network and wanted to rush to save you. If I hadn’t held him back, he’d have gone straight there,” Shi Yichen said, subtly throwing Leng Ruoheng under the bus while taking credit for himself.
“You’ve got some nerve talking about me. Didn’t you rent a starship too?” Leng Ruoheng shot back.
Watching these two overgrown kids—over 300 months old—tear each other down, Yu Duoduo felt utterly exhausted.
“So why’d you come to the Imperial Star? Aren’t you busy now?” Yu Duoduo asked, looking at Leng Ruoheng.
“I wanted to see you as soon as possible, so I took that little starship you gave me and came over,” Leng Ruoheng said, gazing at Yu Duoduo with a pitiful expression.
Yu Duoduo almost softened under his look, but then Shi Yichen’s voice cut in. “But that little starship nearly broke down—it’s still in repairs!”
How reckless did he have to be to mess it up on its first use? It must’ve been a wild ride!
Sensing Yu Duoduo’s shift in mood, Leng Ruoheng—this cold, ruthless interstellar hunter—immediately owned up to his mistake.
“Duoduo, I was wrong. I shouldn’t have ignored my own safety just to see you sooner and driven while exhausted. Please forgive me this time!” he pleaded. As long as it’s for you, I’d risk it any number of times, he thought, though he kept that part to himself.
Sigh! Fine, whatever—they were family, after all, and they were just worried about her.
With that settled, Yu Duoduo changed the subject.
“Big Brother Leng, Second Brother Shi, have you booked a hotel for me?”
At that, Shi Yichen nudged Leng Ruoheng aside. “Duoduo, I was thinking you could stay at Second Brother’s place so I can look after you.”
“No way. I have to visit the Yu family this time. Staying at your place would be inconvenient, and if the Yu family found out, it might cause trouble for you,” Yu Duoduo replied.
Hearing this, Shi Yichen didn’t push further. He opened his optical brain and booked a hotel instead.
“This is the best hotel on the Imperial Star—the Bai Clan Nebula Hotel. Go check it out, Duoduo, and get familiar with the place.”
The three of them toured the hotel suite together, and Yu Duoduo was very pleased. It was a three-bedroom, two-living-room setup, complete with a bathroom and even a kitchen.
“Second Brother, this place is great—I’m really happy with it. Unless something unexpected comes up, I’ll stay here until school starts.”
“Good. Hungry, right? Big Brother brought some ingredients. I’ll cook for you now. After lunch, rest up—everything else can wait until tomorrow,” Leng Ruoheng interjected, seeing their conversation winding down.
After lunch, Yu Duoduo went to rest. But what she didn’t expect was that her two brothers decided to move into the suite with her. One claimed he hadn’t seen his little sister in too long, while the other whined pitifully, saying he was scared she’d get into trouble and needed to stay by her side.
Fine, let them do what they want—there were just enough rooms anyway.
Over the next few days, Shi Yichen and Leng Ruoheng took Yu Duoduo around the Imperial Star. They showed her scenic spots, delicious restaurants, fun amusement parks, and even the shadiest black markets—nothing was off-limits.
Finally, after ten days, Yu Duoduo had familiarized herself with all the important places on the Imperial Star.
“Brothers, don’t you think it’s time you got back to your own business?”
At first, Yu Duoduo thought they’d taken time off just to ease their worries about her and keep her company. But ten days straight of them tagging along everywhere? That was something else.
Seeing they weren’t responding, Yu Duoduo called out directly. “Big Brother, is your hunting team really that free these days?”
Leng Ruoheng glanced left, right, up, and down—anywhere but into Yu Duoduo’s eyes. “Well, didn’t we just catch that infamous interstellar pirate a while back? Everyone got a hefty payout, so I gave them a month off to relax.”
“Uh, well, Big Brother, you’re really a great leader,” she said. Is this the real face of the cosmic hunting team? So all those times Big Brother took the team to Yellow Star with me, it was just for extra cash?
“What about you, Second Brother? Did you just finish a big order too, so you gave your team a break?” With no other option, Yu Duoduo turned her questioning to Shi Yichen.
“Me? Uh, not exactly. These days, I’ve handed most of the work to my team. If they’ve got questions or need clarification, they can just reach me online,” he said.
Good thing he reacted fast, or Duoduo might’ve seen through him.
“So you’re basically working remotely now? You two are something else.” Even though she knew they were fibbing, Yu Duoduo couldn’t bring herself to call them out. After all, they were the closest people she had in this interstellar world!
Setting that topic aside for now, Yu Duoduo suddenly remembered something and turned to Shi Yichen. “How’s the investigation into the Yu family going? Did you find out why they called me back? Has my brother really returned?”
“Yeah, it’s all figured out. Duoduo, you’ll need to be extra careful when you go back this time.”
