Ch 14: Designing a Trap
At this moment, Lu Yunjin greatly admired his Big Sis Duoduo.
His once arrogant mother was now kneeling before Big Sis Duoduo, crying with tears and snot streaming down her face, looking utterly pathetic. When had his mother, who always put on airs, ever humbled herself like this?
For some reason, a secret thrill bubbled up in his heart.
Then he looked at his father, who stood expressionless to the side, watching his wife—whom he regarded as his life and his heaven—grovel on the ground.
Normally, wouldn’t his father be shouting and threatening Big Sis Duoduo by now? Wasn’t he the one who couldn’t stand seeing his precious wife wronged?
And those bodyguards lying scattered on the floor—judging by the scene, they were clearly Big Sis Duoduo’s handiwork. Wait, where had that soft, delicate, obedient Big Sis Duoduo gone?
Had the world turned upside down? It had become something he no longer recognized!
Even so, Lu Yunjin suppressed his excitement and ran up to Yu Duoduo. Leaning close to her ear, he whispered, “Big Sis Duoduo, there’s a guy named Shi Yichen outside looking for you. They’re worried you might get hurt and want to come in to check. Is that okay?”
Yu Duoduo glanced at the young man, a bit puzzled. Whether others could enter the Yu household—wasn’t that something she, an outsider, shouldn’t decide?
“If you think it’s fine, then I’ve got no problem with it.”
“Good, good! I’ll call them in right away. They seem really worried about you.” With that, Lu Yunjin quickly dashed out of the hall.
As he walked, he muttered to himself, “I must not be awake yet. How could I dream of my poor, helpless, soft, and obedient Big Sis Duoduo taking down everyone like that?”
Yu Duoduo’s five senses, heightened beyond those of ability users, caught every word of Lu Yunjin’s muttering. So, the only one in the Yu family who thought she was pitiful was this younger brother she’d only met once.
Suddenly, Yu Duoduo felt that the past grudges could be wiped clean—just to give this boy a complete family. The sudden ease of this thought made her realize it stemmed from Little Duoduo’s feelings.
“Let’s call our grudges settled here. Don’t provoke me in the future, or I won’t hesitate to make the Yu family disappear from the Imperial Star.”
When Lu Yunjin returned with Leng Ruoheng and Shi Yichen into the hall, they found it eerily quiet. Weren’t these two supposed to be locked in a life-or-death showdown?
Leng Ruoheng and Shi Yichen hurriedly rushed to Yu Duoduo’s side, carefully inspecting her from head to toe. Only after confirming she was unharmed did they take their places on her left and right.
Before they could ask for details, a man and a woman’s voices came from the doorway: “Didn’t you say you were moving out, little sister? Why are you back so soon?”
That voice—she knew it instantly. It was her selfish, self-serving older sister, Yu Baobao.
“Why can’t I come back? Isn’t this my home too?”
“It’s your home, sure, but didn’t you move out already?”
“So what if I moved out? Can’t I come back? Or is that a Yu family rule—once you leave, you’re never allowed back?”
Yu Baobao glared at Yu Duoduo’s stunning, radiant face, seething with anger. Why? They shared the same mother, and their father was a blood relative. So why was Yu Duoduo so dazzling and charming, while she, Yu Baobao, was just a bland, tasteless little white flower?
If Yu Duoduo knew what she was thinking, she’d probably give her a big thumbs-up and say, “Sis, you’ve got some serious self-awareness!”
Yu Baobao’s eyes darted as a venomous plan formed in her mind. She fiddled with her optical brain for a moment, then looked up at Yu Duoduo with a wide, fake smile.
“What are you talking about, little sister? I just didn’t expect you’d come back, that’s all. I was just surprised. Don’t take it to heart.”
The shift in attitude was too obvious! Yu Duoduo stayed wary inside while keeping her expression neutral.
“What’s so surprising about it? Even relatives and friends visit each other. As Mother’s biological daughter, isn’t it normal for me to come check on her?”
Yu Baobao was left speechless by Yu Duoduo’s retort. She didn’t dare snap back, and when she tried to laugh it off to ease the awkwardness, she could only manage an unnatural twitch of her lips.
“If you don’t want to smile, Big Sis, you don’t have to force it.”
Yu Baobao was fuming inside, her pretty nails digging into her palms. Just hold it in a little longer. Then, as if noticing them for the first time, she raised her voice and asked, “Little sister, who are these two?”
Lu Yunjin didn’t hold back, firing off, “Can’t you tell? They’re Big Sis Duoduo’s friends. Stop staring at them like some rabid dog lunging at meat you’ve never seen before.”
“You—how dare you talk about your sister like that? I was just asking out of kindness. What’s wrong with that?”
What kind of person was he? No regard for sibling bonds at all. Once she inherited the Yu family, she’d kick him out—or better yet, make him serve some old hags.
With that thought, Yu Baobao calmed herself down.
Coming back to her senses, she noticed Yu Duoduo preparing to leave with the two men. “Little sister, you just got back, and we haven’t even had a meal together in so long. Since today’s as good a day as any, why not stay for dinner before you go? I’ll have them prepare the food right now.”
Without waiting for Yu Duoduo to refuse, Yu Baobao darted off to the kitchen to give instructions.
Her eagerness only heightened Yu Duoduo’s suspicions. A weasel wishing a chicken a happy new year—nothing good could come of it!
From start to finish, the man Yu Baobao had brought along hadn’t said a word, his presence so unremarkable it was practically invisible.
When Yu Duoduo asked Lu Yunjin about the man’s identity, he replied, “He seems to be Big Sis’s sweetheart, but we know next to nothing about him.”
While Lu Yunjin chatted with Yu Duoduo and her two companions, Lu Zhengting ordered the servants to carry the injured bodyguards out for treatment. Yu Yao, claiming exhaustion, retreated to her room to rest.
Barely half a star-hour later, the Yu family doorbell rang. Yu Baobao sprang up to answer it and soon ushered in a young man. She introduced him as the head of the Zhou family.
With an average lifespan of 600 years in this interstellar era, the Zhou family head, just over 100 years old, was still considered a youth. It wasn’t uncommon for uncles to be younger than their grandsons here.
What a chaotic world!
Though Yu Baobao claimed the Zhou family head was here to discuss a marriage alliance, Yu Duoduo keenly noticed his gaze drifting toward her, occasionally flashing a look of satisfaction.
Over the past 15 years, Yu Duoduo had studied daily in the library system, and with her past life as a top student, it didn’t take much thought to figure out the scheme between these two.
Yu Baobao wanted to drag her down, and the Zhou family head was complicit—neither of them were good people.
Since they were so eager to hand her a reason to crush them, how could she possibly refuse?
As Yu Duoduo mulled it over, an innocent, guileless smile unconsciously spread across her face. Seeing it, Leng Ruoheng and Shi Yichen shared the same thought.
Yep, there’s a show coming!
