Ch 23: School’s About to Start!
After finishing her words, Yu Duoduo ignored Luo Xue and went straight back to her room.
The moment she closed the door, the smile on Yu Duoduo’s face vanished.
Tonight, she had learned the basic situation of her dormmates. During dinner, she sent their basic details to her two older brothers, asking them to look into it.
She didn’t like Luo Xue. From the moment they started interacting, though Luo Xue hadn’t said much, Yu Duoduo had been observing her closely and noticed the calculating glint in her eyes more than once.
Yu Duoduo didn’t mind others scheming, but that scheming couldn’t be directed at her or the people she cared about.
The next day, school hadn’t officially started yet, so the group went to explore the campus together. By noon, the four of them headed to the cafeteria for lunch.
As if suddenly recalling something, Yu Duoduo spoke up and asked Bai Cha’er, “The day we arrived to register, I saw you in this cafeteria! But I’ve been curious—why were you so upset back then?”
Bai Cha’er thought for a long time before remembering, then said with a hint of grievance, “It wasn’t a big deal. I originally planned to come register a couple of days later, but my mother insisted I go earlier. I couldn’t help but complain a little, right?”
Seeing her mood dip, Yu Duoduo was about to comfort her, but Bai Cha’er immediately perked up again. “But if I hadn’t come early, we might not have ended up in the same dorm. Turns out my mom had some foresight!”
“Right!”
“Right!”
The others quickly chimed in.
“Hurry up, or it’ll get crowded soon, and we won’t get any food!”
The group sprang into action and enjoyed a delicious meal.
Having walked around all morning, the activity level was overwhelming for girls like them, who had been pampered since birth. So, they unanimously decided to rest in the afternoon and wait for the school’s arrangements.
Yu Duoduo rested in her room, studying materials from the library system.
Suddenly, her optical brain chimed, and she saw she’d been added to a group. Upon closer inspection, it was a class group, and a teacher claiming to be the homeroom teacher had posted a notice.
The notice required everyone to go to the academy’s administrative office before 7 p.m. to pick up their school uniforms, with no exceptions for latecomers. It also reminded them to attend the opening ceremony at the school auditorium at 7 a.m. tomorrow.
Yu Duoduo was just wondering when to go pick up her uniform when a loud “bang bang bang” came from her door.
Opening it, she saw Bai Cha’er and Yi Sang standing there. Bai Cha’er, that little rascal, still had her hand raised in mid-knock.
“Knocking so loudly—do you have some urgent business with me?” Yu Duoduo deliberately put on an annoyed expression, only to see the two girls outside blush with embarrassment. Yi Sang lowered her head, while Bai Cha’er stared at her with wide eyes.
Bai Cha’er blinked innocently. “The teacher sent a notice telling us to pick up our uniforms. Let’s go together!”
“Sure, I was just about to go get mine too. But next time, please don’t knock so loudly—you scared me.”
“Sorry, Duoduo! We didn’t think much about it. After getting the notice, we just wanted to come tell you right away so we could go together,” Bai Cha’er explained.
Yi Sang apologized as well, and Bai Cha’er, realizing her mistake, lowered her head in silence.
“Alright, let’s go!”
Just as Yu Duoduo locked her door, she saw Luo Xue step out from across the hall. Bai Cha’er quickly said, “Oh, you’re out? Perfect, we can all go get our uniforms together—no need to call you separately!”
“Yeah, perfect timing,” Yi Sang added.
Yu Duoduo chimed in too, “Better early than late—let’s go together.”
The four of them marched off to the administrative office and quickly collected their uniforms. One great thing about interstellar clothing was that, regardless of size, it adjusted to fit the wearer’s body perfectly and could even switch styles.
Though the school uniforms could adjust for size, they were limited to two styles: the standard uniform and combat suit—styles that other clothes couldn’t replicate.
Back at the dorm, Bai Cha’er couldn’t wait to try hers on. And honestly, the uniform fit her perfectly, giving off a pure yet subtly alluring vibe.
Yi Sang’s uniform gave her the look of a high schooler—obedient, cute, and lovable!
Luo Xue’s, on the other hand, exuded a mysterious, captivating charm. With her black hair and heterochromatic eyes, she sparked endless curiosity.
Yu Duoduo hadn’t planned to try hers on—good or bad, she’d have to wear it anyway. But with her three dormmates egging her on, she had no choice but to give in.
When Yu Duoduo put on her uniform, it carried an air of authority, faintly hinting at the demeanor of someone in power.
The three girls reacted differently, but Yu Duoduo caught a fleeting flash of jealousy in Luo Xue’s eyes.
“Alright, you’ve all seen it. I’m going back to my room to rest. You guys rest too—we’ll head to the cafeteria for dinner later!” Without giving the two girls a chance to protest, Yu Duoduo turned, entered her room, and shut the door in one swift motion.
You couldn’t blame her—right then, she’d received a message from the homeroom teacher asking her to write a speech. Tomorrow, at the opening ceremony, Yu Duoduo would speak as the female freshman representative.
The worst part? She couldn’t refuse. All she could do was sigh, planning to search the Star Network for a couple of sample speeches, tweak them a bit, and pass them off as her own.
Yu Duoduo had hoped to finish quickly and maybe join everyone for dinner at the cafeteria. But she’d underestimated the task—her draft kept getting sent back for revisions. With no other option, she messaged her dormmates to bring her some food.
By the time her dormmates returned, Yu Duoduo had finally finished the draft and ate a little something.
Bai Cha’er and Yi Sang didn’t pry, assuming she was busy with something important. But Luo Xue wasn’t so easily brushed off.
“Duoduo, what were you working on? Why didn’t you come eat with us?”
Yu Duoduo glanced at Luo Xue faintly, noting her innocent expression, and felt a wave of nausea.
She then looked at the other two, who clearly looked displeased and turned their faces away, avoiding Luo Xue entirely.
“It’s no big deal. The homeroom teacher asked me to give a speech tomorrow as the female freshman representative,” Yu Duoduo said casually.
Bai Cha’er lit up, rushing forward to hug her. “Duoduo, that’s amazing! You’re incredible!”
“It’s alright, nothing too special,” Yu Duoduo replied modestly.
Yi Sang quickly pulled Yu Duoduo out of Bai Cha’er’s embrace, then said soothingly to Bai Cha’er, “Let’s head back. Duoduo’s probably going to stay up late revising her speech.”
“And memorize it too? Then we’d better go—I don’t want to study or read. People like me are better off sleeping,” Bai Cha’er said, dragging Yi Sang and Luo Xue away.
“Sleep early, though—we’ve got the opening ceremony tomorrow morning. Don’t be late,” Yi Sang reminded everyone once more.
A quarter of an hour later, Yu Duoduo clutched her head—she’d finally memorized it. She was exhausted.
For the rest of the evening, Yu Duoduo read while video-chatting with her two older brothers. She couldn’t help but brag, “Big brothers, tomorrow I’m giving a speech as the freshman representative!”
A speech on stage—but honestly, she didn’t want to do it one bit.
Yu Duoduo still couldn’t quite figure out why they’d chosen her to be the representative.
