Ch 25: Time and Talent
“Speaking of which, how long have I been asleep?”
Mos closed her status screen, raised her head, and checked her surroundings.
Piles of bones lay on the ground, some scattered and almost unrecognizable, only the scales nearby still indicating their identity.
“These are the bones of that Fire Lizard. They’re rotten like this because Little Dumpling ate them.”
Mos looked at the bones on the ground, came to the pile of scales, and poked them with her hand.
Crunch… crunch…
With a texture like potato chips, these scales had completely crumbled, shattering into even finer fragments under Mos’s pressure.
Picking up a slightly gray bone from the ground, she easily broke it in half. Looking at the bone in her hand, she murmured:
“Theoretically, to become like this, it would take several years…”
Even with the influence of Little Dumpling’s acidic sticky fluid, it should still take several months.
But Mos sniffed and found that the temperature of the surrounding air hadn’t changed since she fell asleep!
Her home cave wasn’t too close to the river where the magic array wastewater was discharged, and the temperature around it was much lower than the road Mos took when she arrived.
So Mos could still judge the approximate season by feeling the temperature in the cave.
Although the temperature in the air wasn’t cold, it was slightly cool.
It’s certain that it’s definitely not summer, it should still be winter!
“Could I have only slept for a few days? It couldn’t have been a whole year?!”
Mos scratched her head, questioning herself doubtfully.
At this time, Little Dumpling, sprawled on the ground, suddenly bounced up, jumping repeatedly in front of Mos, attracting her attention.
‘I know! I know!’
Little Dumpling’s childish and cheerful voice continuously entered Mos’s mind, making her laugh.
Mos reached out and touched Little Dumpling, calming it down before saying with a smile:
“Okay, then tell me how many days have passed.”
‘Over here! Over here!’
Little Dumpling stretched out its tentacles, pulling Mos towards the entrance of the cave!
“Eh? Where are we going?”
Mos watched Little Dumpling pull her towards the cave entrance, thinking they were going outside, and asked in confusion.
‘Record! It’s here!’
Little Dumpling bounced and turned around, shouting, as if a child eagerly showing their parents their achievements, its transparent tentacles constantly pointing towards the wall!
“Record?”
Mos looked up following Little Dumpling’s instructions, until she saw the patterns on the wall in front of the cave entrance.
The patterns before her eyes completely dispelled her doubts!
Mos widened her eyes, her face filled with surprise!
Dense, fine scratches, at a glance, covered more than ten square centimeters!
These scratches, in the shape of fishbones formed by four horizontal lines and one vertical line, were carved on the wall. Some looked crooked, and some overlapped.
Because these patterns were so dense, they were invisible from a distance, so she hadn’t noticed this place before!
Mos carefully counted them, and the more she counted, the more shocked her expression became!
There were thousands of scratches on this wall, a total of more than two hundred patterns!
“This… this… how can there be so many?”
Mos retreated in shock, staring at the wall in front of her and murmuring to herself.
So many scratches, if each scratch counts as a day, then it would be at least two years, close to three years?!
“Wait! If that’s the case… my lifespan!”
Mos’s expression changed, and she quickly closed her eyes, feeling the changes in her body!
Her body was light and strong, her bones were hard and flexible, and her teeth and claws showed no signs of loosening—a completely healthy and young body!
Mos opened her eyes, patted her body, spun around a few times, and then jumped a few times, making sure she wasn’t mistaken.
“Completely fine, my body is as young as it was three years ago, even more energetic!”
“What’s going on…”
Mos murmured to herself, her face still showing surprise and confusion.
Suddenly, Mos thought of something!
“This… could it be the effect of my talent?”
Mos remembered her Golden Finger talent, the talent effect② that caused changes in her body!
Her body would adjust to the highest adaptability according to the changes in her talent, which likely meant that her lifespan would also change with the body’s adjustment!
Mos looked down at her body, becoming even more certain of this guess!
It seems that this effect is likely true, her lifespan has really increased!
So, in the future, as she gets more talents, will her lifespan also increase accordingly?
At the thought of this possibility, Mos couldn’t help but exclaim again:
“Sure enough… it’s a bug!”
Suddenly freed from the threat of death due to insufficient lifespan, and no longer having the appearance that was disliked and reviled by everyone.
Mos suddenly felt that her desire to become human wasn’t so urgent, feeling as if a shackle had been released from her heart!
This situation has advantages and disadvantages, the most important of which are freedom and safety!
Now she doesn’t need to worry about her lifespan, and Mos doesn’t need to anxiously try to become stronger!
She doesn’t need to take risks to steal the three humans’ Magic Cores to become stronger; she can take safer actions to ensure her own safety.
Of course, Mos doesn’t not want to become stronger; her current goal is still to become human!
But under the current circumstances, her will to become stronger will definitely weaken!
Mos is certain that in the future, when facing certain things, she will prioritize safer avoidance rather than confrontation.
This is not a lack of confidence, but a clear understanding of herself, or rather, that’s how humans are!
Courage is always possessed by only a few; what truly drives humanity forward is always fear and desire!
“Ahahaha, my heart is still that of an ordinary human!”
Mos scratched her head and laughed indifferently, looking unconcerned.
What’s wrong with being an ordinary person?
To live a peaceful life, to close her eyes peacefully in the embrace of her children in old age, to leave the world with a smile—simple yet happy.
But Mos also knows that her life is destined not to be ordinary!
“Forget it, thinking about this is useless now. Let’s see the effects of the new talent!”
Mos shook her head and then put the matter behind her.
She opened her status screen and looked at the talent that had been bothering her for nearly three years!
Flame Manipulation!
Mos opened the talent introduction of Flame Manipulation and studied it carefully, gaining some understanding of this talent.
Flame Manipulation, as the name suggests, is the ability to control flames!
The introduction on the status screen is that simple!
But it should be noted that this Flame Manipulation can only control external flames; it does not have the ability to generate flames itself!
Mos had already tried to activate the effect of Flame Manipulation, but nothing happened.
If one had to describe it, the effect of this talent is similar to the ability of Human Torch in Marvel.
Human Torch can control fire, but he can’t create fire; he has to carry a lighter with him at all times.
Mos’s current ability is the same; without a fire source, she cannot control flames!
But don’t worry, don’t forget that this is a magic world!
The biggest difference between Mos and Human Torch is that she has Magic Power, while Human Torch does not!
The study of Magic Elements, I’ve talked about this before, right?
The Magic Elements possessed by each creature will carry the creature’s own characteristics, and these characteristics often come from the talent effects the creature possesses.
“So, I should be able to create fire, too?”
Mos smiled softly and slowly raised her right hand!
