Ch 30: Shift Change
As night fell and the lights came on, Xizhao Middle School was immersed in a peaceful atmosphere. The streetlights in the campus lit up one by one, like bright pearls adorning the night. After a day of classes, the students returned to their respective classrooms one after another.
Xi Yang gently pushed open the door of Senior Year 3 Class 2, and the classroom was instantly silent, with all the students’ eyes turning to him. Wang Xin sat in her seat, looking worried and preoccupied.
Homeroom Teacher Wen Rou sat on the podium, gazing at him with deep eyes for a moment before calmly saying, “Xi Yang, come over here for a moment.”
Xi Yang nodded slightly and silently walked to Teacher Wenrou’s side, leaving the classroom with her. They walked through the corridor to the big tree next to the teaching building. Teacher Wenrou took out her phone and dialed a number.
The call was quickly connected, and Teacher Wenrou said softly, “Hello, Xi Yang’s parent, I’m Teacher Wenrou, Xi Yang is right here with me.”
A hoarse and deep voice came from the other end of the phone: “Let Xi Yang take the call.”
Xi Yang’s heart tightened. He knew very well who this voice belonged to—his father, Xi Changsheng. Clearly, his father already knew about his recent behavior.
Teacher Wenrou looked at Xi Yang with guilt and handed him the phone. Xi Yang took the phone and held it tightly in his hand, but he didn’t speak for a long time.
He took a deep breath, slowly brought the phone to his ear, and said softly, “Dad…”
The other end of the phone fell silent, with only a slight breathing sound coming through the receiver into his ear.
Xi Yang couldn’s help but feel emotional, he had never felt this afraid of meeting his parents.
Finally, Xi Changsheng broke the silence and asked in a serious tone, “What’s wrong with you? Do you even remember you have a father? Teacher Wenrou has already told me that you’ve been skipping class a lot lately, taking leave every other day, look! This time you’ve been transferred to Class Four! If you could study properly, would your dad have to work so hard! Yang, your second brother and your eldest sister didn’t learn well and didn’t even pass the high school entrance exam, are you going to be like them too! Your mom and I work so hard every day to earn money, and this is how you repay us. If you can’t continue studying, then come out and work, and see if working is harder or studying is harder!”
Xi Yang replied, “I understand!”
“Sigh! Son! I know you’re having a hard time, your grandparents are getting old, go help them with some work when you have time,” Xi Changsheng said.
Xi Yang replied, “I will!” Then he added, “By the way, I don’t plan to go home for the next few weeks. I’ve found some work to do in town on Saturdays and Sundays.”
After a long pause, Xi Changsheng’s voice came from the other end of the phone, “Do as you please! It’s not good to always stay in that remote mountain corner, it’s good to come out and see the world! Take care of yourself and eat more.”
“Okay!” Xi Yang responded.
“Alright, I won’t disturb your class. Listen to your teacher at school! Study hard!” After saying that, he hung up the phone.
Xi Yang sighed and returned the phone to Wen Rou.
Wen Rou said earnestly, “Your scores in all subjects weren’t high in this ranking, so the school has arranged for you to attend classes in Class Four. Don’t be discouraged, gold shines wherever it goes! Study hard! Strive to return to Class Two in the next monthly exam.”
Xi Yang smiled and nodded. He didn’t care about this kind of thing. What troubled him most now were the parents of this body. How should he face them, should he stay or leave? This was a difficult problem! It would be good to just leave, but how could he give an explanation to the original owner who had died? It would definitely become a mental demon on his cultivation path in the future! But facing them would be even more troublesome. Not to mention their endless nagging, even future cultivation would become a problem.
Wen Rou saw Xi Yang standing there for a long time without moving, and patted Xi Yang’s shoulder, “Xi Yang, don’t be dazed, it’s okay! It’s the same learning in Class Four!”
Xi Yang came back to his senses and said calmly, “Am I moving now?”
Wen Rou nodded.
Xi Yang replied, “Okay!” Saying that, he walked into the classroom, picked up his things, and went to Class Four.
Wen Rou saw that there were still many things left behind, and asked a few strong students to help move them.
Wang Xin, who was at the side, saw this and started crying on her desk.
The student behind her comforted her, “Xi Yang is so excellent, he just failed once, he will definitely be back next month!”
Walking into the classroom of Class Four, Liu Jiazhou quickly stepped forward to take the books from Xi Yang and moved them to the desk next to him.
Liu Xinyue, the homeroom teacher on the podium, looked at Xi Yang with resentment and said, “If you come to our class, you must abide by the rules, no being late or leaving early!”
Xi Yang glanced at her and said, “Teacher Liu, from today onwards, I plan to commute to school, so I won’t be living at school anymore, and the house I live in now is quite far away, so I won’t be coming to morning reading!”
When Liu Xinyue heard this, she slammed the table angrily, “I agree that you commute to school, but I can’t agree that you don’t attend morning reading! What will the other students think? If you don’t come and he doesn’t come, in the end there won’t be a single student at morning reading. How can they possibly do well in the high school entrance exam in three months if they don’t work hard?”
Xi Yang said indifferently, “I’m just telling you, whether you agree or not is your business!”
“Xi Yang, are you going too far? Disregarding school rules and discipline, do you believe I’ll have you expelled right now?” Liu Xinyue said angrily.
“Expelled, Teacher Liu, if I hadn’t been lucky last time, I would already be a corpse, the physical examination report is in my hands…”
Liu Xinyue was shocked when she heard this, and immediately interrupted, “I will report this matter to the school leaders, I don’t know if they will agree!”
Xi Yang nodded, turned around and sat down next to Liu Jiazhou.
“Xi Yang, Fatty Xu has already told me about your matter! I…”
Xi Yang interrupted, “Don’t waste your breath talking about what has already happened.”
Casually scanning the students in Class Four, Xi Yang asked, “Which class is Zeng Xing in now?”
“He was assigned to Class One this time! It is said that his father treated the school leaders to a meal,” Liu Jiazhou said.
“Has their family been up to anything lately?” Xi Yang asked.
Liu Jiazhou thought for a moment and said, “Zeng Xing and his father haven’t done anything out of the ordinary, but I heard my dad say that Old Liu of the Zeng Family went outside a few days ago and invited his Senior Brother over!”
A cold smile appeared on the corner of Xi Yang’s mouth, and he thought to himself, “So it’s that guy, it seems that he was the one who attacked me on Niubeidong Mountain last time. Now he’s found some people to deal with me again, it’s really endless.” Thinking of this, a cold light flashed in his eyes.
He couldn’t help but sigh in his heart, “It seems that I’m still too low-key, even these insignificant people dare to come and cause trouble for me, they simply don’t know how to live.” Xi Yang stood up and walked towards the outside of the classroom.
Liu Xinyue on the podium saw Xi Yang’s actions, frowned and asked, “Xi Yang, where are you going?” Xi Yang looked back at her and casually replied, “I’m asking for leave tonight, I’m feeling a little unwell.” After saying that, he ran out of the classroom like a gust of wind.
The students in Class Four’s classroom cast envious glances, thinking to themselves, Xi Yang is really awesome, he can leave the classroom at will. Several troublemaking students in the class saw this and wanted to learn from Xi Yang, so they stood up, but when they saw Liu Xinyue’s gloomy face on the podium, and the phone in her hand ready to be dialed at any time, they were immediately frightened and changed their expressions, and quickly returned to their seats.
