Ch 358: A Guy’s Natural Enemy Isn’t Always His Wife, Sometimes It’s His Little Sister
“So sleepy, this path is too quiet.”
After lunch, everyone immediately set off, following the secret passage towards the depths of the Snow Mountain. Nia got sleepy halfway and directly lay on Grey’s back, asking him to carry her.
“Sigh, lazy fox.”
“Hmph, too lazy to argue with you.”
The path was very quiet. Besides everyone’s footsteps, no other sounds could be heard. The passage was very spacious; it was the road used by Caesar’s army. Although a long time had passed, many man-made traces had gradually eroded and disappeared, but relying on the low temperature of the Snow Mountain, many things were still preserved, such as the remains of a soldier frozen to death.
“Whoa, you scared me!”
Bal, who was leading the way at the front, initially didn’t notice the remains. When he got closer, the light source of the illumination magic allowed the appearance of the entire remains to be clearly seen. The remains were severely dehydrated but not decayed. The body was still wearing plate armor, although it looked a bit large and didn’t match the body’s current size. Most importantly, the hollow eyes were wide open on the withered face. Bal had seen a lot, but he was still scared by this low-level fear.
“Is this Caesar’s army mentioned on the stone tablet? It seems that this Caesar isn’t very good. Coming to this place without providing winter clothes for his soldiers, if they didn’t freeze to death, that would be a ghost.”
Phia snapped her fingers, and a quiet flame appeared on the remains. Soon, the entire remains were enveloped in a green cold flame. After about a few minutes, the remains were decomposed by the cold flame.
“Dust to dust, ashes to ashes, may the deceased rest in peace.”
Phia clasped her hands together and offered a belated funeral to the remains of the soldier who had died many years ago. Seeing this, everyone followed suit.
“May the deceased rest in peace.”
After crossing the remains, everyone continued forward. The dark and long path, though still spacious, felt increasingly oppressive the deeper they went.
“Wuu, it brought back bad memories.”
Yselle hugged her arms and started to tremble. Nia saw Yselle’s unusual state and quickly jumped off Grey’s back to go to Yselle’s side.
“Are you okay?”
“Not really. I recalled the long time in the Black Tide of the Inverted Tower. It was like now; there wasn’t much space to move around, and it was especially dark…”
After listening to Yselle’s words, Nia walked in front of Yselle, turning her back to her.
“Get on.”
“Nia, what are you doing?”
“Get on my back, I’ll carry you. Although I can’t use magic to soothe people’s mental unease like my sister-in-law, what you’re showing is more of a fear of loneliness, and I think carrying you might be better.”
Yselle stood there at a loss. She was indeed afraid of loneliness and darkness, but if something happened, being on Nia’s back would make Nia’s movements inconvenient.
“Alright, get on. Are you worried that I can’t run with you on my back? Idiot, although I can’t beat Bal, my strength is comparable to his.”
“Yeah, that’s true, strong lazy fox… puha!”
As soon as Bal spoke, Nia elbowed Bal in the stomach, causing Bal to squat on the ground in pain.
“You won’t die if you say less, see what happened?”
After Phia used healing magic to treat Bal’s pain and helped him up, Yselle smiled when she saw this scene, a very happy smile, as if the previous fear had never appeared.
“Sure enough, it’s fun to adventure with you guys.”
“Then hurry up and get on. Let’s be clear; besides Grey and Philia, only you can get me to carry you willingly. I wouldn’t even let Bal ride on my back.”
“I don’t want you to carry me either. My feet drag on the ground when you carry me, and I feel sorry for my shoes.”
“I think you’ve had a comfortable life for too long and have become slack. Come here, let me tighten you up!”
Nia was about to punch Bal, and Bal immediately hid beside Yselle, swaying left and right.
“Yselle, help me catch this stinky guy.”
“Yes!”
“Huh?!”
While Bal was still in shock, Yselle had already pushed Bal to the ground.
“Mr. Bal, excuse me.”
“If you really think it’s rude, then let go of me! Nia, wait, let’s talk! Aaaaaaaaaah!”
Bal’s screams echoed throughout the passage. After dealing with Bal, Nia carried Yselle on her back, and Phia, after treating Bal, supported him, and the group continued to move forward.
“Are you comfortable now? After that beating.”
Phia sighed, looking up at Bal.
“Hehe, I’ll dare to do it again next time.”
“You, don’t use this self-harming way to relax others. Although I’m here, you won’t die, but I’ll still feel heartbroken, okay?”
“Got it, Wife.”
Bal grinned, showing a smile like a child. Phia shook her head and silently supported Bal to continue moving forward, even though Bal was already fine.
To say that Bal’s screams had no negative impact would be impossible. Not long after everyone continued moving forward, a group of bats flew towards them.
“They’re venomous bats, be careful!”
Phia and Bal went to the front. Phia used magic to construct a wall of fire, and Bal was responsible for killing the bats that passed through the wall of fire. The two quickly cleaned up the bats that flew out.
“Logically speaking, this place has been sealed for so long; there shouldn’t be any bats.”
Grey squatted on the ground checking the remains of the bats. These venomous bats mostly lived in caves in humid and hot areas. This is a snow mountain, and even though everyone has been walking in the passage for so long, the temperature here is still cold.
“And the species of bats is also strange; this kind of bat basically only appears in humid and hot areas.”
“Could there be a heat source ahead?”
Bal looked into the depths of the passage, although he couldn’t feel any heat.
“It should be, let’s continue moving forward. By the way, what time is it?”
“4 PM.”
“Did you pay attention to the time from your scream to the bat attack?”
“Three to five minutes, subjective time.”
“Then we should find the habitat of these bats within a few kilometers ahead.”
“Okay, let’s continue!”
The group held their weapons and ran quickly forward following Phia’s light source. It’s fortunate that it’s not in the snow; otherwise, only Yselle and Phia could reach the destination in a short time.
“Mmm… I can smell a bad smell ahead.”
Nia frowned, hating her sensitive sense of smell for the first time.
When everyone reached the bats’ habitat, they were still startled. It was a space large enough to accommodate Bal’s school’s indoor playground. Countless bats hung upside down from the ceiling of the space. The ground was full of bat droppings, and not far away was a lake with bubbling hot air.
“Shall we start?”
Bal looked at Phia, and Phia nodded.
“There’s no way around it, let’s do it. If we let them out, I’m afraid they’ll become a disaster.”
“Okay! Grey, let’s bomb the shit!”
Bal projected a heavy bow and used the projected spiral sword as an arrow to shoot and detonate it. Grey used Nia’s magic sword as an explosive arrow. The two of them bombarded the top together. At the same time, Phia used large-scale magic to kill many bats.
“Whew! Cool!”
After everyone cleaned up the bats in this space, they decided to set up a marker here for next time. After all, it’s almost dinner time; it’s time to go home for dinner, a bath, and to play with the child.
