Chapter 100: Terrifying
Lu Xi’an couldn’t help but admire this person, feeling that his flattery skills were already instinctive, just coming out whenever he spoke.
“You flatter me, you flatter me,”
Lu Xi’an said to the person with a smile, then placed the Resonant Gene Scanner on the car’s engine hood.
After placing it, he turned to the person standing nearby and asked, “Was this thing first discovered in that hole?”
The person was the one who had been responsible for answering Lu Xi’an. He was about to sit down by the car’s tires, but he was startled by a glare from Yao Wei, and quickly rolled over to lean against the doorway pillar before sitting down.
The car was quite close to the doorway, so he was still relatively close to Lu Xi’an.
As for the other person, he retreated to the side and sat leaning against the wall.
Lu Xi’an noticed that after he asked this question, both of them looked as if they had lingering fears, their expressions revealing that the past was not worth recalling.
The person Lu Xi’an asked twitched the corner of his eye and replied, “Yes. It was always inside.
“We never knew before, that iron door was always locked, and we couldn’t get in.
“After that person came, he controlled us properly and made us work.
“He used some unknown method. If we didn’t obey him and work for him, we would feel terrible, and when we did work, we would be overly excited.
“He forced us to dig out two pieces of that thing embedded in the wall, and even used all our strength to smash the wall.
“After finally breaking through, we were all exhausted. He found this thing inside and then said he would reward us and make us happy.
“He used that mysterious method again, and instantly we were truly happy, to the point where several people died from happiness.”
Speaking of this, the person showed a slight expression of relief, seemingly relieved that he hadn’t died from happiness at that time.
Lu Xi’an thought to himself that he and Yao Wei must have benefited from being New Humans, with physical fitness far exceeding that of ordinary people, and the New Human’s ability had a reduced effect on him.
If he were like the people here and subjected to such a combo from that New Human, he probably wouldn’t have been able to withstand it.
To die from happiness, how terrifying!
Lu Xi’an couldn’t be bothered to ask what tools these people used at the time.
Connecting these events, Lu Xi’an felt it was possible that they smashed walls with their heads when they were excited.
And the mess in the building, with nothing intact, wasn’t it also because the people here were driven into a frenzy and raged by that New Human, causing indiscriminate destruction?
He asked again, “Did you see how that person operated this thing?”
The person tied up and sitting by the pillar continued to answer, “He took something that could generate electricity and connected it to this machine.
“Also, the four long strips above could be raised vertically. There’s a small board in the middle, which when flipped up, displays an image.”
Lu Xi’an then noticed a small embedded square in the middle of the machine, which when flipped up, revealed a screen that could fold 180 degrees.
He opened that screen, raised the four long strips on the side, which were presumably antennas, and then looked for the plug.
While searching, he asked, “What about his thing?”
The person replied, “He threw it away after using it today, saying it was out of power and couldn’t be used.
“Someone from our group came to talk to him then, saying they found a Fungal Stone, and for some reason, he got angry and smashed one of our people with that thing.
“The thing didn’t hit anyone, but it flew out the window.”
He tilted his chin towards the west side of the building and said, “He threw it towards the west side at the time. You should be able to find it outside the building over there.”
Lu Xi’an went to look and indeed found something, similar to the “Power Bank” Yao Wei used at the Gas Station.
However, having fallen from a height of five stories, the thing was completely broken, so Lu Xi’an gave up the idea of picking up this garbage.
A perfectly good item, just thrown away and broken. Couldn’t it be charged and used later?
Lu Xi’an sighed, thinking that the New Human was clearly not on the same path as him, and it wouldn’t be a pity to kill him.
He returned to the car and saw Yao Wei looking at him, so he explained, “It’s the same as your thing, but after falling from a height, it’s smashed to pieces.”
Yao Wei frowned and said, “What a waste!”
Lu Xi’an nodded in agreement, “Yes, really doesn’t know how to live frugally!”
“Mm.”
Yao Wei nodded in agreement, a bit annoyed.
The two people tied up not far away opened their mouths. One was speechless, and the one sitting by the pillar cleverly chimed in, “Yes, yes, that person is just no good!
“Big Brother, Sister, we were ignorant before, we only saw him as a New Human, and we thought all New Humans were like him.
“After meeting you, I realized that compared to you, he’s really far behind!
“His strength is one thing, but look at him, now only his head is left, and more importantly, he doesn’t know how to live frugally!
“With his wastefulness, if Big Brother and Sister hadn’t cut off his head, he would have starved to death sooner or later!”
Lu Xi’an: “…”
Yao Wei: “…”
This person was quite skillful, able to flatter even in the tightest of situations.
But occasionally listening to such flattery was quite enjoyable, only slightly less thrilling than the feeling a New Human gave him, which sent pleasure straight to his head. Lu Xi’an cupped his hands towards the person again and said with a smile, “You flatter me, you flatter me.”
The person quickly said, “I wouldn’t dare, I’m just speaking the truth.”
Lu Xi’an ignored him further and went to the car’s engine hood to inspect it carefully, found the embedded hidden plug on the side, then called Doggy over and plugged it in.
This Square Device also had a switch on the side, which was also hidden. After pressing it, the flipped-up screen lit up.
The person leaning against the pillar couldn’t help but flatter again, praising that the iron dog was much more powerful than that little iron lump of the other person, and it could even run by itself.
Lu Xi’an and Yao Wei still ignored him. However, Yao Wei’s eyes lit up. She felt that “Iron Dog” was a much better name than “Doggy,” and wondered if she should talk to Lu Xi’an about renaming Doggy.
This device seemed to be slow to start up, possibly due to its age.
Lu Xi’an and Yao Wei waited for a while before finally seeing the screen turn blue.
The blue fluorescent screen was very simple, with only three icons: “Shutdown,” “Self-Check,” and “Start Scan.”
There was no mouse on this device, so Lu Xi’an thought for a moment and tried to touch the screen with his finger, which surprisingly worked.
He tapped “Start Scan,” and the three icons moved to the bottom of the screen, while “Start Scan” changed to “Pause Scan.”
Afterwards, the blue screen above began to change, and it turned into a map of Mengxin City.
There were ripples spreading on the map, one after another, as if indicating that the machine was performing a resonance scan.
Lu Xi’an and Yao Wei felt nothing out of the ordinary; perhaps resonance and scanning could be carried out silently.
Then, after a short while, four red dots appeared on the map, all concentrated together.
Lu Xi’an stretched out two fingers and dragged on the screen. The red dot area on the map was enlarged, revealing itself to be the Mengxin City Urban Area.
