Chapter 159: Exchanging for a Tenshu
When the dry rations on the ship were crawling with maggots, the fresh water started to turn green, and the pirates on board were like walking corpses, they finally arrived at Pol Island.
During this process, Owen was immersed in research, relying entirely on the System Exchange and slime maids for his daily needs. However, the pirates were living a life worse than death, with several more dying along the way.
These pirates had already been sailing for quite some time, and their journey to Pol Island was non-stop, pushing their supplies to the limit. Some weaker pirates became frail due to malnutrition and sepsis, which was equivalent to a death sentence at sea. Therefore, according to maritime customs, they were thrown overboard.
No one felt that this decision was cruel or unreasonable, except for those involved. This was how things had been done for countless years, and it had proven to be the best solution.
Under Owen’s command, the sailing ship ran aground directly on the beach. The pirates on board swarmed down, rushing into the nearby woods to nibble on anything they could find, just like starving rabbits.
Although these pirates were unaware of the cause of their illness, their instincts couldn’t deceive them. They were frantically replenishing their vitamins, unaware that they had been targeted.
With strange cries, over a hundred savages wearing grass skirts leaped out from the woods. They were short in stature but fierce in their gaze. Even when facing the taller pirates, they charged like hungry wolves, using their wooden spears and stone axes to attack the enemies who had invaded their territory.
“Captain!” Old Rui, who had fallen behind due to his age, panted as he ran up to Owen, speaking urgently.
“Don’t worry.” Owen didn’t care about the lives of the pirates, but they were still useful and couldn’t all die just yet. Besides, it was time to test out his previous idea.
Owen closed his eyes and began to communicate with one of his Shikigami, the Grand Witch Ai Mi Er.
Success! Owen, still with his eyes closed, thought confidently. Even though they were separated by a world, he had successfully summoned Ai Mi Er. It was clear that the Shikigami transformation he had learned from the Onmyoji wasn’t as weak as he had imagined.
“It’s been a while…” Owen, who was about to say “long time no see,” suddenly choked on his words. He knew that Ai Mi Er had a habit of riding her broomstick out at night, but he never knew she rode it in such a bizarre way. It was truly an eye-opening experience.
“Your bottom line is truly unfathomable, and it has made me see you in a new light.” Owen said, feeling deeply affected. Ai Mi Er, having seen much of the world, didn’t care about this small scene and landed calmly.
“What’s the matter with summoning me?” Ai Mi Er said with slight dissatisfaction as she wiped the top of her broom.
“Deal with those savages, but don’t kill them. Also, tell Maya that I’m establishing a new territory.” Owen took a deep breath and calmed himself down.
“Just this small matter?” Ai Mi Er rolled her eyes and tossed out a few potions. She conjured a gentle breeze to push the vaporized potion back, and in no time, people were falling to the ground. Then she stared at Owen, clearly indicating her desire to return.
Owen felt helpless and under considerable pressure.
Compared to other Shikigami, Ai Mi Er and Bella were special. They didn’t exist in the Shikigami space but lived in their original world. Owen had only summoned them through a ritual; it didn’t mean they had actually crossed over. This meant he needed to constantly expend power to maintain the summons. When he couldn’t hold on any longer, they would automatically return.
Of course, Owen wouldn’t wait until his power was completely drained before releasing them. So he actively canceled the summon and then summoned three new Shikigami: Blue Ogre, Goat Demon, and Snake Demon.
The Blue Ogre was blue-faced and fanged, tall and strong, wielding a heavy kanabo club. It was a powerhouse.
The Goat Demon was half-human, half-goat, resembling the devils in myths and legends. With its giant scythe, it looked even more like one.
Although the Snake Demon didn’t have a humanoid form, it was the largest in size. Its fangs were venomous, making it the most troublesome of the three new Shikigami.
Who could have imagined that these three new Shikigami were actually transformed from goblins, demon sheep, and poisonous snakes, three basic monsters?
Initially, because this wasn’t his territory, Owen had nowhere to put the monsters he summoned daily. Not summoning them would be a waste, and although one or two low-level monsters held little value to him, he had OCD. He had to summon anything that was free, so he thought of transforming them into Shikigami. Once he summoned a monster, he could directly feed it to these three new Shikigami.
Anyway, these monsters shared the same origin, so there wouldn’t be any indigestion issues from devouring them. As for the issue of cannibalism, they were monsters, weren’t they? They didn’t have such concerns.
Just as he was about to start the transformation, Owen suddenly remembered the Bloodline Induction program that Flame Empress had cracked. Coincidentally, his Warm Baby clone had a backup of the program, so three new Shikigami with seemingly altered races appeared.
“Take these three Shikigami to guard those savages. Don’t let them escape.” Owen casually ordered the three new Shikigami to follow Old Rui and guard the unconscious savages, then he walked alone towards the depths of the island.
Pol Island was quite large, and Owen walked for a long time before finding a suitable location.
It was backed by mountains and faced water, with a large enough open space that was sufficient for initial use. So Owen used the Progress Value he had accumulated at sea to exchange for a Tenshu.
The Japanese-style Tenshu was like a larger pavilion, but it had all the necessary functions. Owen opened its attributes to take a look.
Level 1 Tenshu, can recruit farmers and foot soldiers, population limit of five hundred.
The Tenshu’s functions were not as comprehensive as the Town Center’s. It could only be upgraded to Level 3 at most, and its population limit was also lower, but it was enough for Owen at the moment.
Besides, the main reason Owen chose to exchange for a Tenshu wasn’t this, but rather an experiment. It turned out his guess was correct.
Because of the differences between worlds, the restrictions in this world were not as strict, and the restrictions on System Exchanges were lower. Owen could see this from the changes in the required Progress Value. This experiment further confirmed his guess.
If he were to summon Japanese-style buildings and troops in his original world, the required Progress Value would be at least 30% to 50% higher, but here it was the original price.
Unfortunately, the restrictions on technological items were still in place, and a new restriction on Mysticism had been added. The higher the Mysticism, the greater the increase in exchange price.
Owen guessed that this was because the Mysticism of this world was relatively low and couldn’t accommodate it, hence the restrictions.
These weren’t problems. Owen was no longer a novice, and this level of difficulty was nothing to him. With just ordinary soldiers, he was confident in conquering the world.
Moreover, recruiting from the Tenshu didn’t consume Progress Value but gold.
Coincidentally, Owen had learned from the pirates that this world was rich in resources, especially gold and silver, enough to support his consumption. Besides, he didn’t need to mine it; plundering was faster.
Furthermore, the Tenshu also had the ability to assimilate. Given enough time, none of these would be problems.
