Chapter 230: Women You Don’t Want to Mess With
Leaving Owen aside, who was excitedly engrossed in exploring the customs of the other world, the three members of the Raptor Squad arrived at Zhi’s home, a burrow located at the base of a large tree, carrying bags of food.
Because Ghost Valley Town was home to a large number of beastkin, the living environments were diverse. For example, the cliffs on both sides of the valley were mostly inhabited by winged people and goat-folk, the ponds and streams were home to some freshwater merfolk and frogmen, and similarly, there were special residents living in and around the trees.
After greeting the squirrel girl who was drying nuts upstairs and giving some snacks to the nearsighted mole lady next door, the three opened the small door between the tree roots and entered Zhi’s cozy home.
The cave between the tree roots was not as dark and damp as one might imagine. Small windows had been opened above, providing good ventilation. A special type of clay had been applied to the walls, effectively isolating the moisture from the ground. It was a little chilly, but after lighting the fireplace, the last trace of coolness was dispelled.
Although she hadn’t been back for a long time, the cave was exceptionally clean. There was a small, inconspicuous yet cozy flowerpot on the little windowsill, clearly indicating that someone came by regularly to help clean.
This wasn’t surprising. As a rat-folk, Zhi came from a very large family. She had dozens of siblings alone. Although many had died or gone missing due to various reasons and accidents, there were still more than ten siblings living in Ghost Valley Town and nearby. They had already married and had children, making the family even larger. So, even though she hadn’t been back for a long time, her house was still well-maintained.
Sitting in front of the fireplace, the three divided the food they had bought and discussed Owen while eating.
As veteran adventurers, and women at that, how could the Raptor Squad so easily trust a man? In fact, the number of men they had tricked was beyond measure.
However, they were not exceptions, but the norm. Therefore, many experienced adventurers wouldn’t easily provoke female adventurers. Because often, after a conflict, male adventurers would just have a brawl and then go drinking together, arm in arm. Female adventurers, on the other hand, rarely resorted to direct physical confrontation. They would just subtly trick you, leaving you heartbroken and regretting your actions.
So, although it seemed like the three of them had said a lot before, upon closer reflection, they had revealed almost no valuable information. Instead, they had gained Owen’s favor and trust, something a naive person couldn’t achieve.
“We’re really lucky this time. We’ve encountered a big fat sheep,” Ya said boisterously, tearing off a large bite of roasted meat, not caring that the grease was dripping onto her thick front armor. After wiping it casually, she spoke bluntly, looking like a bandit. However, it was said that Ya had actually been a robber for a while before becoming an adventurer. Later, she found it boring and changed her profession to adventurer, only to discover that it highly overlapped with her old profession.
“Don’t be so crude. Besides, he’s not just any big fat sheep,” Bai said elegantly, sipping her fruit juice and fiddling with the fruit in front of her, a knowing smile playing on her lips.
“Alright, we all know you’re the smartest of the three of us. Just say what you’ve found,” Ya said, raising her grease-covered hand to pat Bai’s shoulder, only to be dodged with disgust. Nevertheless, Bai continued.
“Do you think he is handsome, polite, well-educated, and has a good temperament?” Ya nodded with each quality Bai listed, but then Bai continued.
“But you didn’t notice that he is not human, at least not a pure-blooded human. If my feeling is correct, he possesses elf blood of high purity and quality.” As she said this, Bai’s eyes lit up, her covetous look making Ya almost unable to bear it.
Elven appearances could easily deceive people. For example, Bai seemed like a naive and innocent person, but in reality, she was quite experienced, both literally and figuratively, a veteran of many battles. The number of men she had been with was more than the pimples on an average person’s face. Therefore, when she saw Owen’s handsome face, she was immediately smitten. After sensing the purity of his bloodline at close range, her love surged like waves, almost performing a duck sit on the spot, incidentally moistening the ground.
“Elf? Besides being good-looking, I didn’t see it. But he does smell quite clean, cleaner than you,” Ya said, stunned.
“Get lost!” Bai rolled her eyes at Ya, very dissatisfied. Why did she work so hard? It was for the sake of improving and selecting bloodlines, not for promiscuity.
Zhi continued to lick her cheese cream stick, uninterested in their conversation. In fact, apart from eating, she had little interest in anything and didn’t pay attention to the two who were chatting excitedly.
After some discussion, the three finally reached a consensus and came to a conclusion: Owen was a good person and could be trusted.
This conclusion wasn’t based on his looks. Ya had amazing intuition, Bai’s perception was not weak, and Zhi had inhuman instincts. Even a devil might not be able to hide their true nature from the three of them without revealing any flaws.
Although they had determined that he was a good person, whether or not the cooperation continued depended on his abilities. So, the three members of the Raptor Squad wouldn’t directly take Owen to their destination. Instead, they would deliberately take a detour and only bring him to the destination after testing him.
As for what would happen after that, whether they would share the spoils or kill him and take everything, depended on whether he could meet their requirements.
They were all mature adventurers. No one would make a decision based solely on personal preferences. As for killing and robbing, they just needed a reason, such as him asking for too much or having ulterior motives towards them. As long as the reason was plausible, no one would question it.
Even finding a reason was just to maintain their adventurer qualifications. Otherwise, dead bodies in the wilderness were nothing unusual.
It seemed cruel, but how many adventurers were truly kind-hearted? If they didn’t want to die, they could only harden their hearts and send others to their deaths.
“If we have to take the last step, I’ll do it,” Bai said, licking the fruit juice from the corner of her mouth, looking somewhat eager.
“Why? I also like handsome guys, okay? Besides, it’s rare to meet someone who smells so clean,” Ya said discontentedly, putting down the bone she had gnawed clean.
“Because I’m more attractive than you,” Bai said confidently, crossing her arms, accentuating her ample bosom and slightly raising her chin.
“I also have plenty of admirers, no less than you,” Ya retorted, pulling down her collar, revealing a glimpse of her even more impressive cleavage, suppressing Bai’s increasingly arrogant demeanor.
“Really? I thought those were just your drinking buddies,” Bai ruthlessly retorted. After all, Ya’s personality made it too easy for men to treat her as one of the guys. After a few drinks, they would become best buds, missing so many opportunities that it made Bai speechless.
Ya awkwardly gulped down a mug of ale. It was those men’s fault for having such low alcohol tolerance.
Bai looked triumphantly at Ya’s surrender. Turning her head, she saw Zhi still licking her cheese cream stick. Seeing her happily wagging pink tail, Bai blushed slightly, grabbed the bewildered Zhi, and walked towards the room.
Bai’s hurried tone, “Zhi, lend me your tail,” made Zhi’s fur stand on end. Suddenly remembering past experiences, she struggled desperately to break free, but all she saw was Ya’s helpless expression. Finally, she watched in despair as the door closed.
