Chapter 331: The Sealed Door
Actually, that door was right below where the fairies were sleeping. When the Fairy Queen discovered it, it was already too late. The world outside was falling apart, and only by relying on the Divine Stone could they escape the calamity. That’s why she endured the fear in her heart and brought the rest of the fairies here to sleep.
To prevent any accidents, Owen collected all the sleeping fairies. Then, based on the location the Fairy Queen pointed out, he used the Elder Wand to cast a Severing Charm. Unexpectedly, it went smoothly. The core, which should have been the hardest part, was actually softer than the outer layer, with a kind of brittle feeling.
“Are these traces of a seal?” Owen, feeling puzzled, levitated the cut stone in front of his eyes. After carefully examining it, he frowned and said.
“Yes, ever since our world was destroyed, the seal within the Divine Stone has been weakening. Otherwise, it wouldn’t have been so easy to cut the stone,” the Fairy Queen said. After all, the Divine Stone was able to withstand the disaster of the world’s shattering. If its hardness wasn’t sufficient, it would have crumbled long ago.
Knowing this, Owen became even more cautious in his movements. It took him a lot of time to completely excavate the door.
The entire door stood there, a full ten meters tall. With the spine as the boundary, ribs as the frame, and flesh and blood as the filling, a ferocious demon’s head hung on the door, fused as one with it. Just a single glance gave the impression that this thing was alive.
Fortunately, this door was still sealed, with the flesh, blood, and bones all petrified, so there was no need to worry too much.
“This is an Abyss Gate?!” After carefully examining it several times, Owen remembered something. At the same time, he understood why the Divine Stone where the Fairy Queen resided was abandoned here.
Information about Abyss Gates was very scarce. Owen learned about them from Emily because the appearance of such a thing meant the end of the world. With the world ending, how could one expect much information to survive? Only occasional bits and pieces of clues could be pieced together from ruins.
If Emily hadn’t come from a lineage of Legendary Mages and enjoyed exploring ruins, she probably wouldn’t have known either.
Owen suddenly thought of something. No one knew the Abyss better than a Devil, so he summoned his familiar.
“Blood Princess An Qi greets Master.” As soon as An Qi appeared, she obediently bowed her head, revealing her cleavage, making Owen, as her master, feel quite pleased.
“I called you here this time because of this Abyss Gate.” Owen pointed to the large door in front of him and said with a headache.
“Master, this is not an Abyss Gate, but a Demon Gate,” An Qi said calmly after just a glance.
“Oh, what’s the difference?” As soon as An Qi spoke, Owen knew he had made the right decision to summon her, so he continued to ask.
“An Abyss Gate is a fragment that has broken off from the Abyss. They are rare. Because they contain a small amount of Abyssal Essence, they can open a portal directly to the Abyss. However, Abyss Gates are greatly restricted in the Material Plane and are not allowed to approach it at all. Even in Hell, there are few records of them being opened. Demon Gates are much more common. It’s just that many people who don’t understand easily confuse the two types of gates,” An Qi explained.
To put it simply, both gates could bring about the end of the world. It’s just that one is more powerful than the other. But for the weak, there’s no difference; they’re both doomed.
“An Abyss Gate is a fragment that has broken off from the Abyss. I can understand that. So how does a Demon Gate come into being?” Owen asked curiously.
“They are created using the flesh and blood of demons. The stronger the demon used as material, the stronger the Demon Gate and the more powerful the demons it can allow to pass through,” An Qi said casually.
Using their own kind as materials was obviously cruel, but for demons, it was nothing; it was something they were accustomed to.
“Then what level of demon was used to create this gate?” Owen pointed to the gate in front of him and asked.
“Judging by its size, it should be an unlucky fellow who just became a Demon Lord,” An Qi shrugged and pulled up her slipping strap.
Anyone who could be called a Lord was no weakling. Whether it was an Elemental Lord or a Demon Lord, they were all the strongest beings below gods, invincible existences in any world.
But in the Abyss, even a being as strong as a Demon Lord was nothing more than material in the hands of a stronger being.
Only a Demon Lord could defeat a Demon Lord. This was troublesome.
Just hearing the title Demon Lord, one knew it wasn’t some reckless brute who fought alone. So once the gate opened, a large number of weak demons would enter first, gradually increasing in strength, eventually summoning the Demon Lord’s true body into the world.
For a world that wasn’t strong enough, it would basically be no different from the end of the world. No wonder people often confused Demon Gates with Abyss Gates. After all, they were both gates that brought about destruction. Who could tell the difference?
Fortunately, Demon Gates also had limitations. They wouldn’t activate without a large number of living beings nearby. However, once they entered a world and sensed a large amount of life force, they would automatically demonize the surrounding creatures, creating chaos and slaughter. Then, they would open the gate, releasing a large number of demons, eventually forming a portal large enough for the Demon Lord’s true body to pass through.
Therefore, if it wasn’t discovered early on, and it grew powerful, even the Empire would have a very difficult time dealing with it. Because demons were all soldiers, they had no weaklings, and they didn’t need logistics or weapons. Once a large number of them poured in and ran amok, it would be impossible to fight them without ten times the number of troops.
The most terrifying thing was that Demon Gates were extremely difficult to destroy. Because they were made from the flesh, blood, and bones of Demon Lords, it could be said that for every Demon Gate that appeared, a Demon Lord sacrificed their life.
There was no other way. Ordinary materials couldn’t withstand the pressure of a Demon Lord entering the Material Plane. Only something of equal existence would do.
Because it was so special, a Demon Gate could be considered a Demon Lord in a special state. Therefore, ordinary weapons couldn’t damage it at all. Demons already had excellent magic resistance, let alone Demon Lords, so destroying it with magic was also very difficult.
Upon hearing this, Owen understood. The god who sent them here probably had some limitations and couldn’t personally intervene, so they intended to use their hands to solve the problem.
Understanding was one thing, but accomplishing it was another. The seal on this Demon Gate was already quite fragile. If they tried to forcefully break the door, they might damage the seal before they could remove it, and then a bunch of demons would pour out, which wouldn’t be good.
Thinking that Kotana was, after all, an elf princess and the disciple of a Legendary Mage, he called over the little girl who was happily playing with Puffskein to brainstorm solutions.
“How about we smash it together?” Kotana summoned Water Drop, excitedly waving it around.
Before Owen could tell her that wouldn’t work, Kotana excitedly poked the gate with the tip of her spear. Then, the seal shattered, and the petrified Demon Gate began to regain its vitality.
Owen gasped and immediately grabbed Kotana and ran. On the way, he conveniently collected the panicked Fairy Queen, as well as the belongings in the shelter. After all, he had telekinesis. It wasn’t great for combat, but for moving things, it was as efficient as a tornado.
