Chapter 74: Changes in the Magic Horn Tree Forest
“Kill all these Magic Horn Goblins!” Owen, riding on a Heavy Armored Demon Sheep, waved his hand, and hundreds of elite soldiers, without hesitation, began to march towards the enemy, who outnumbered them.
Longswordsmen with shields in front, slaying any Magic Horn Goblins that dared to approach, while crossbowmen in the rear began to fire freely.
Compared to bows, the advantage of crossbows is that they are easy to aim and shoot at close range. Aiming and pulling the trigger is all it takes, so within ten steps, their effectiveness is comparable to firearms, making them difficult to dodge. Although the mutated Magic Horn Goblins are agile, they have no ability to dodge crossbow bolts, let alone these crossbowmen are elite produced by the system. They don’t panic in the face of the enemy, and they have some understanding of prediction, so even if they can’t directly hit the vital points, hitting the torso is still no problem. As long as they are hit, the longswordsmen can take them out with one strike.
The battlefield is not a place for individual combat. Cooperation is very important. There is no such thing as stealing kills. Therefore, the combination of melee and ranged attacks is very tacit.
However, the Magic Horn Goblins have a numerical advantage. When hundreds of them are alerted and charge together, a hundred soldiers alone can’t hold them back. So it’s time for the Teutonic Knights to take the stage.
When the Teutonic Knights, like iron cans, brandish their heavy swords, they become the reapers of death on the battlefield. No creature can withstand their attacks, no creature can break their defenses. At this moment, the Teutonic Knights dominate the battlefield.
Facing the seemingly invincible Teutonic Knights, the Magic Horn Goblins couldn’t hold on any longer. Their wooden sticks and stones could only make a sound when facing opponents in full plate armor, and their bodies were so powerless against the enemy’s heavy swords. Those who charged at the front had already been turned into pieces that couldn’t be put together. The enemy, except for some blood and debris on their armor, didn’t even change their sword-wielding movements. The surviving Magic Horn Goblins had no doubt that if they didn’t run, they would all be turned into minced meat.
So far, there has been no leader who can truly command the Magic Horn Goblins, so a rout inevitably occurred.
The Teutonic Knights are brave and invincible, like a fan falling into a chicken coop, but their slow movement limits their ability to pursue the enemy. However, the longswordsmen are not slow-moving iron cans. Their style is to advance and retreat like the wind, and Step Forward Slash is their favorite move. Therefore, they become the main force in the pursuit. But soon, the Demon Sheep Cavalry led by the Goblin General became the new main force.
Every Demon Sheep Cavalryman is a goblin produced by the system. They are clad in light armor, wielding short-handled maces. With the charge of the Demon Sheep, they can easily crush the enemy’s bones.
Under the efficient cleaning of the soldiers, only a few dozen Magic Horn Goblins escaped in the end. Unfortunately, such a brilliant victory did not increase the system’s progress value, which disappointed Owen a little.
After chasing the enemy for a while, the Goblin General, covered in blood, knelt before Demon Lord Owen in shame.
“Follow me.” Owen ignored the Goblin General, who knelt down at every turn. He rode his Heavy Armored Demon Sheep and entered the goblin tribe under the protection of the Teutonic Knights silently guarding him.
After entering the goblin tribe, Owen discovered that it wasn’t just the Magic Horn Goblins that had mutated. The goblins converted by the system had also mutated, but in the opposite direction of the Magic Horn Goblins.
Magic Horn Goblins traded part of their sanity for power, while converted goblins became more intelligent.
At this time, the goblins in the tribe had softer facial features, even their hooked noses seemed to have shrunk and softened. At the same time, their eyes became larger, their mouths became smaller, and their hunched backs straightened up, as if they had entered the civilized world after thousands of years of evolution.
Although the changes were significant, the system’s abilities were trustworthy. At least Owen didn’t have to worry about the goblin tribe escaping his control.
Another pleasant surprise was that the mutated goblins were now qualified to become commoners.
The goblin tribe seemed to be doing well. Owen left the healers behind and said to the Goblin General,
“Take me to the ruins.”
“As you command, Demon Lord!” The blood-stained Goblin General, hearing the Demon Lord’s tone, knew that he was not blamed. However, as a subordinate, needing the Demon Lord to come to the rescue was too embarrassing, so it bravely walked at the front.
Because of the Super Farm, although the nearby Magic Horn Trees showed signs of activation, they looked half-dead. As long as the Super Farm was restarted, it wouldn’t be long before these activated Magic Horn Trees would be turned into fuel. Therefore, Owen just glanced up and didn’t pay much attention to them.
The Super Farm Avenue was the first place to be repaired, entirely paved with smooth stone slabs. Therefore, the group walked quickly, and Owen could already see the deeply excavated ruins.
The goblin farmers were very efficient. They dug the soil above the ruins into a large pit and then dug along the pit, forming a spiral walkway. Although it was a longer walk, it was easier. They also built wooden frames similar to cranes to transport the stone slabs directly from the bottom of the pit. No wonder their work efficiency was so high.
It was because of the goblins’ high efficiency that they unexpectedly dug through the second floor of the ruins and touched something, which triggered this mutation.
Now the ruins are occupied by a group of mutated monsters, originally Black Glue Bugs, Hard-Skinned Rats, and Thorn Spiders from the Magic Horn Tree Forest.
Black Glue Bugs are insects with tough skin, about a foot long when fully grown. They feed on the sap of Magic Horn Tree roots, so they are poisonous, and their mucus has an extremely high temperature when ignited. However, their larvae are only an inch long, white and plump, very delicious, but they live deep in the roots of Magic Horn Trees and are difficult to catch.
Hard-Skinned Rats are good at digging and feed on the larvae of Black Glue Bugs. Because their fur is tough and can withstand the thorns of Magic Horn Trees, they are one of the few creatures that can live in the Magic Horn Tree Forest.
Thorn Spiders are large spiders the size of pot lids, covered in bristles, and agile predators. Any creature that enters the Magic Horn Tree Forest is their food. They mainly feed on Hard-Skinned Rats and goblins.
Now they have all mutated and gathered in the ruins according to their instincts, becoming the targets that Owen needs to eliminate.
“What are the special features of these mutated monsters?” Owen didn’t rush into the ruins because he didn’t know what the situation was like inside. So he first asked the Goblin General, hoping that it could provide some useful information, otherwise he would have to consider whether to create a more qualified Goblin General to replace it.
The Goblin General, unaware of its unstable position, seriously answered Owen’s questions. Although the information was not comprehensive, it was able to obtain so much intelligence in such a short time, so he decided to keep it for the time being.
