Chapter 17: This Cat is Here to Help You, You Know?
“Meow meow~( I was just a little late, why does it seem like I died or something? )” Li Li, being petted, was a bit confused. He couldn’t figure out if there were rumors circulating about him dying. Otherwise, why was Auntie so emotional?
“Fat Raccoon Cat, it’s good that you’re okay. Next time, come earlier, you know? Don’t make Auntie worry.” After confirming that Li Li wasn’t missing any limbs, Auntie finally felt relieved. She placed the prepared cat food in front of Li Li.
“Meow meow~( I’ll try my best, I still have a few dinner engagements to attend.” Li Li replied, and began to eat the cat food with big mouthfuls.
It was good that Auntie had saved him some food, otherwise this trip would have been in vain.
“Fat Raccoon Cat, the weather is getting colder and colder now, you need to take good care of yourself, you know? When you see strangers, run far away, don’t get too close, don’t let just anyone pet you.”
“If the other person doesn’t look like a good person and is holding a rope and a bag? Run away early, you know?” Watching Li Li eat the cat food, Auntie reminded him.
She had seen those who catch stray cats wearing masks and carrying cloth bags. If Fat Raccoon Cat saw them, he had to run far away.
They loved to catch fat cats, because fat cats had big bodies and shiny fur.
“Meow meow~( Don’t worry, Auntie, although I’m greedy, I’m not stupid. I always avoid those guys, and those mischievous kids too. )” Hearing this, Li Li immediately understood why the other party was so anxious. It turned out she had heard rumors about him being caught.
Auntie shouldn’t worry about him. He had long since disappeared when he saw those guys wearing masks and carrying cloth bags. He wasn’t a newbie cat anymore.
Only those stupid cats with not-so-bright minds would fall for such a clumsy trick.
“Our Fat Raccoon Cat is so good. If it gets cold and you have nowhere to go, remember to come to Auntie, okay?” Listening to the meowing from her feet, Auntie patted Li Li’s back and said.
“Meow meow~( If I happen to have nowhere to go, I’ll come. )” Li Li, having licked up the last few grains of cat food, nodded his head. He turned around and rubbed against Auntie’s hand.
This made Auntie very happy. She had been feeding stray cats for so long, and only Fat Raccoon Cat was the most well-behaved. He would always interact with her after eating.
“Grandma, why are you still feeding the cats? I’m starving to death, can you put the cats aside for a while?” The little girl, poking her head out from the balcony on the third floor, shouted.
Why did Grandma feed the cats every day? She was starving to death, and Grandma was still feeding the cats. Why not feed her first?
“Didn’t Grandma make you meat dumplings? You can eat those.” Hearing this, Auntie looked up helplessly and said, “Cats, unlike you, don’t always have Grandma to take care of them. They might have one meal but not the next. You have food to eat and you’re still picky.”
This child should eat when she has food. She made it for her and she didn’t eat it, but she wanted her to cook other dishes.
“I don’t like meat dumplings, I want to eat chicken legs. Grandma, come up and cook them for me.” The little girl shouted.
“Okay, okay, Grandma will be right up.” Auntie nodded and patted Li Li, “Fat Raccoon Cat, take good care of yourself, Auntie is leaving now.”
“Meow meow~( Goodbye, Auntie. )” Li Li nodded his big head, watched Auntie enter the unit door, and then ran towards the outside of the residential complex.
Since Auntie was going home to cook, he should go out and see if the late-night snack shops were open.
“Beautiful lady, want a New Orleans style chicken leg? Crispy and juicy, very delicious.”
“No, thank you.”
“Handsome, want a New Orleans roast chicken? Very cheap, only eighteen yuan. I sell it to others for twenty.”
“Thank you, I have a dinner appointment with a friend.”
People came and went in front of the mobile New Orleans roast chicken stall on the sidewalk, but no one stopped.
This made the owner, wearing an apron on his back, feel a bit troubled. Business was really hard to do these days.
Everyone just walked past his stall, why didn’t they buy anything?
If this continued, he would be eating dirt.
“Meow meow~( Handsome boss, you seem to haven’t opened for business yet. How about giving me some? I’m a famous lucky cat, you know. )” Just as he was thinking this, a round, chubby face appeared in his sight.
It was Li Li, who had come out of the residential complex. He smelled the aroma and followed it, only to find that there was a newly opened stall here, and it was a New Orleans roast chicken stall.
That was great, he hadn’t had roast chicken for a long time.
He just happened to come over and give the owner some guidance, after all, judging from his appearance, he seemed to be a novice.
“Hmm? What a big tabby cat.” The owner, who was complaining, couldn’t help but be stunned after seeing Li Li.
Tabby cats were common, but ones with such a large size were rare. It was obvious that this cat’s usual food was not ordinary, otherwise it wouldn’t have been able to eat so much and become so strong.
“Meow meow~( Boss, don’t be stunned. I’m here, shouldn’t you show some appreciation? )” Seeing the owner stunned, Li Li couldn’t help but remind him.
His dignified lucky cat had come to the door, and the owner wouldn’t even give him a whole chicken. He wasn’t even willing to take out a chicken leg?
“What’s wrong? Are you hungry, kitty?” The owner, brought back to his senses by a few meows, asked and picked up a chicken wing from the grill.
Judging from the current dismal business situation, he would probably have a lot left over when he closed up shop at night.
Since there was a cat at the door, he would give it some to eat. It was also a way to reduce his burden.
“Meow meow~( Of course, who would come here if they weren’t hungry? )” Li Li muttered as he saw the owner holding the chicken wing and jumped onto a chair to sit down, waiting for the food to be served.
“You cat is really not polite at all.” The owner laughed and scolded as he cut the chicken wing.
He had seen many people who were familiar with him, but this was the first time he had seen a cat that didn’t consider itself an outsider.
“Meow meow~( I’m not eating your food for free, I’ll help you attract some customers later. Otherwise, with your newly opened stall, you wouldn’t be able to get any business without my help. That would be a real surprise. )” Li Li said as he watched the owner put the chicken wing in a box. Most of the pedestrians passing by had no desire to buy anything.
Or they wouldn’t buy from a stranger.
Unless the stall’s business was booming, they might buy it with a try-it-out mentality.
But there was no one in front of the owner’s stall, so it was almost impossible to sell the first one.
So, he had to rely on him.
“Eat, fat cat. Be careful, it’s hot.” The owner didn’t understand Li Li’s mutterings and just placed the boxed chicken wings in front of Li Li.
