Chapter 54: Sibling Showdown? Who Will Prevail?
Six days passed in the blink of an eye. The first round of fifty matches to determine the top fifty had long been completed, and the second round to determine the top twenty-five was already in its twentieth match.
Chu Chen ignored the two contestants battling in the simulation space. Instead, he sipped his ice-chilled beast milk while examining the token in his hand, his little brows furrowed in evident confusion over the number on it.
He scratched his bun, grinned, and handed the token to Chu Xin, whispering, “Big Sister, what number is this?”
“Twenty-three.”
Chu Xin, also enjoying her ice-chilled beast milk, rolled her eyes dramatically, exasperatedly saying, “I told you to learn to read more, but you wouldn’t listen. Now look at you, all confused.”
Chu Chen chuckled, muttering, “If I spent time learning to read, I wouldn’t have time to learn how to grill, and then Big Sister wouldn’t get to eat delicious grilled meat.”
Chu Xin paused, realizing he had a point, but still felt something was off.
Chu Chen leaned over to look at Chu Xin’s token, his chubby face lighting up with surprise, “Wow! Big Sister, our tokens are the same!”
Thwack!
Chu Xin lightly smacked Chu Chen’s head with her small, fair hand, her large, round eyes wide with mock anger, “You fool, why are you so happy? If our tokens are the same, we’ll have to fight each other soon. How did Dad end up with such a silly son?”
“Oh? You’re right.”
Chu Chen sucked on his pacifier, the baby bottle dangling from his mouth, and rubbed his head. He turned to look at Long Yufei in the judges’ area, muttering indistinctly, “I wonder if we can still switch.”
“There’s no switching. We’ll just do what we always do,”
Chu Xin sighed, taking a sip of her beast milk and rubbing her temples like a little adult.
She didn’t really know what the gesture meant, but she had seen her father do it whenever she and her brother were being mischievous.
The competition continued fervently, but no one noticed the thin blood threads that quietly emerged beneath the chairs of the hundred thousand spectators, silently entering their bodies.
However, the hundred thousand spectators felt nothing amiss and remained focused on the arena, watching the battles in the simulation space.
After some time, the female guard stepped onto the stage and announced loudly, “Will the two contestants with number twenty-three please come up?”
Her voice echoed, but no one responded.
The female guard repeated the announcement twice more, but still, no one came forward. Her gaze shifted to the preparation area, scanning the crowd before finally settling on Chu Xin and Chu Chen.
Long Yufei and the others followed the female guard’s gaze, landing on the siblings, and were stunned.
There they were, the two siblings, pacifiers in their mouths, heads leaning against each other, fast asleep.
A crystal-clear drop of drool hung from Chu Xin’s lips, and bubbles were forming in Chu Chen’s nostrils.
“So cute, I want to hug them,”
The female guards and other women present felt their hearts melting at the sight of the two sleeping toddlers.
“Ai Kaorou, Ai Chirou,”
Long Yufei called out with a smile.
The siblings were startled awake, one sniffing and the other wiping drool from their mouths, looking around in confusion.
Their adorable expressions charmed everyone.
“What’s your number?” Long Yufei asked.
“Auntie Long, we’re number twenty-three,” Chu Xin replied.
“You’re both number twenty-three?”
Long Yufei’s brows furrowed slightly. She had suspected as much when no one came forward and she saw the siblings sleeping, but she had held onto a sliver of hope.
Those familiar with the siblings were also stunned.
This match was a sibling showdown?
Which of the two little toddlers would prevail?
Everyone was suddenly filled with anticipation.
“Yes, Big Sister and I are both number twenty-three,”
Chu Chen nodded his little head.
It was indeed a sibling showdown.
Everyone’s eyes lit up with excitement.
◈◈◈
These two little toddlers had both genuinely defeated Peak Martial Venerables, making them arguably the strongest contestants in the entire Lánzhōu Grand Competition.
Everyone had been curious about which sibling was stronger and had been hoping for a match between them.
They hadn’t expected the sibling showdown to come so soon.
There had been rumors that the Provincial Governor was rigging the competition, targeting the Demon Saber Sect and the Ten Thousand Beasts Sect, but that was clearly nonsense.
If the Provincial Governor were rigging the competition, she wouldn’t have allowed the siblings to face each other so early.
Losing now meant not making it to the top ten and not getting the secret realm map.
In a sibling rivalry, one was bound to lose.
However, after the top ten were determined, there would be challenge matches. With the siblings’ strength, securing a spot in the top ten through the challenge matches wouldn’t be a problem.
At this moment, Long Yufei sighed inwardly and said, “Go on up, it’s your turn.”
“Okay!”
The siblings responded and jumped onto the stage.
Everyone’s eyes were fixed on the two little toddlers, eager to see which sibling would come out on top.
Just as the female guard was about to activate the simulation space, Chu Xin stopped her, “Auntie, we don’t need to go in.”
“You don’t need to go in?”
The female guard was taken aback, and everyone who heard was confused.
How could they fight without entering the simulation space?
This small arena couldn’t even contain a battle between two Martial Kings. How could they fight here?
Those from other competition areas speculated that perhaps these two little toddlers weren’t even Martial Kings.
But if they hadn’t even reached the Martial King realm, how could they be in the top ten of the Lánzhōu competition area?
Under everyone’s watchful eyes, Chu Xin and Chu Chen stood facing each other. After a long look, they suddenly placed their right hands behind their backs.
“Rock, paper, scissors!”
With the last word, they both threw out their little hands.
Big Sister showed scissors, Little Brother showed paper.
“Little Brother, I win,”
Chu Xin declared triumphantly, wiggling her little index finger like scissors.
Everyone was dumbfounded. This was the highly anticipated sibling showdown?
Rock, paper, scissors?
What kind of nonsense was this?
Wasn’t it a bit too childish to decide the winner this way?
Just then, Chu Chen pouted, his chubby face filled with defiance, and said in a childish voice, “Big Sister, don’t get cocky. Best two out of three, I still have a chance.”
“Rock, paper, scissors!”
They both put their hands behind their backs again and then simultaneously threw them out.
Big Sister showed paper, Little Brother showed scissors.
“Haha, I won, Big Sister, I won!”
Chu Chen danced around, waving his chubby hands, overjoyed.
“There’s still one more round, don’t get too excited. It’s not over yet. Come on,”
Chu Xin put her hand behind her back, her large, round eyes darting around, seemingly trying to guess what her brother would throw.
