Ch 143: Writing the Divorce Papers
“Are you going to answer your mother? Have you gone stupid?”
Madam Nian threw down her walking stick, and it clattered in front of Guo Liangxian.
He came back to his senses and said, “Mother, please don’t ask.”
He really didn’t want to explain.
Hadn’t things come to this point today because of Mother’s mistakes in the first place?
Guo Liangxian had always found it incomprehensible. He had accompanied the Grand General in battles for many years, yet he returned to no understanding!
And his wife insisted on a divorce!
His head was about to explode now!
Fortunately, he could still find some comfort with Yan’er!
Madam Nian said coldly, “What do you mean, ‘don’t ask’? Is there anything I can’t hear? What major event has happened? Tell your mother clearly!”
Guo Liangxian, “…”
Mama Cui hesitated, seemingly knowing something.
Earlier, she had gone to the Pear Garden and seen Cuiping. That maid had said that Madam was not seeing anyone.
Mama Cui stated, “Old Madam requests your presence; Madam must not refuse.”
Cuiping said impatiently,
“Not seeing anyone means not seeing anyone! Madam is no longer managing the household affairs! Mama Cui, please go back. Don’t force me to chase you away!”
Mama Cui was stunned. The maid Cuiping dared to speak to her like that!
It seemed that there was some change with Madam.
Even the General had become strange!
Guo Liangxian said,
“Mother, she said she wants a divorce!”
“What on earth is going on? Everything was fine, how did I offend her?”
“She has such a good status and position, such a large residence, why would she want a divorce?”
“Could it be that she has a man outside?”
Guo Liangxian had a strong suspicion.
Madam Nian was shocked.
“What? She came back and told you to your face?”
Guo Liangxian nodded repeatedly, “How could it be fake? She’s become capable! After a trip to the old home in Lucheng, she really wants to divorce me!”
“She even convinced my father-in-law, Lord Yuan, I really don’t know how she did it!”
Madam Nian was so shocked that she couldn’t speak. She thought silently for a while.
Guo Liangxian, “Now our Guo family’s internal strife hasn’t been resolved, and now there’s this divorce. She also said that everyone in the Guo family has definitely agreed!”
“And they’ll be coming to the Capital City soon!”
“Mother, if Third Uncle and the others find out about Second Uncle’s death, will they…” Guo Liangxian didn’t dare to think further.
Guo Liangxian was afraid of what Prince Xian would do if he found out about this act of defying human ethics.
Would he abandon him, this Little General?
Now that the war was over, there was nothing important to do!
Guo Liangxian’s merits were not great. He was given a residence initially, but the subsequent rewards were slow to come, and it was Prince Xian who provided some subsidies.
He had no idea if he could escape this conflict and continue to protect everything the Guo family had.
Not to mention this internal strife, even his wife wanted a divorce!
Attacked from both sides, Guo Liangxian’s head was splitting with pain!
Madam Nian’s eyes were somewhat dazed. After suffering another blow, she swayed and fell onto the soft cushion.
“Old Madam!” Mama Cui stepped forward to support her and help her sit up.
Things weren’t over yet!
Madam Nian closed her eyes, then opened them again, and said,
“Call, call her to Zhongsi Hall! I want to question her personally!”
Guo Liangxian, “…”
So, he hurriedly got up, intending to come to the Pear Garden and drag Yuan Xueyue out!
Early in the morning, Ju Niuer learned that Madam had returned, and happily hurried over to pay her respects!
Seeing this, Cuiping did not stop her.
โโโ
“Madam! You’re finally back! Niuer missed you!”
“You don’t know, during your absence, the residence was in chaos. Your concubine didn’t know how to handle things and was scolded by Old Madam many times.”
“The General also often took his anger out on me, making my stomach often feel uncomfortable!”
“Fortunately, the baby is well-behaved and hasn’t caused much trouble!”
“By the way, Madam! Did you and Lord Yuan get along well? You must have been very happy to reunite with your father!” Ju Niuer said with a smile, her eyes full of joy.
Ju Niuer had no idea what the result of Yuan Xueyue’s return was.
Yuan Xueyue smiled back,
“Good, everything is good. My father treated me well.”
“It doesn’t matter if the residence is in chaos. As long as you are all safe and sound, did the Official not make things difficult for you?”
Ju Niuer shook her head,
“He didn’t make things difficult. The matter is not settled. After all, our General has status. How could he be slandered by that Second Master Guo?”
Yuan Xueyue frowned, somewhat skeptical about this matter, feeling that it was very strange.
She immediately thought of Second Master Guo’s personality; he was very good at framing others!
Second Master Guo had been jealous of First Master Guo’s son, Guo Liangxian, for a long time!
His own son could not achieve high office, while Guo Liangxian rose step by step, came to the Capital City, received a residence, and served under Prince Xian!
It was clear that Guo Bing was doing it on purpose, letting Guo Deshan cling to the matter!
Now that so much time had passed, the body was gone, and it was difficult to investigate. The only way was to do the unethical act of opening the coffin and examining the body!
But Yuan Xueyue was no longer involved in these matters.
“It’s good that you’re fine. Cuiping, serve tea.”
Yuan Xueyue responded calmly, avoiding many topics.
Ju Niuer didn’t mind and continued to exchange pleasantries,
“Madam, did you encounter any dangers on your trip?”
“The mountains are high and the roads are long, did you not encounter any bad people?”
Yuan Xueyue smiled, “Of course not, I dispatched four guards.”
On the road, there were also two provided by the Prince, and two more were added on the return trip!
Completely sufficient!
On the way there, there was a bandit encounter late at night. They happened to be unable to reach the nearest waystation, so they had to stay on the mountain road.
Ju Niuer nodded, relieved, and took a sip of tea.
After sitting for a while longer, she got up and left to return to Yaoyu Pavilion to rest.
Before the new year, Yuan Xueyue had not paid much attention to the concubines taken into the residence, and she often excused them from their morning greetings.
This made them feel that the Madam of the residence was particularly magnanimous and generous!
Now, after Yuan Xueyue had been away from the residence for so long after the new year, she did not blame them for anything upon her return, making them feel even more that the Madam of the residence was a kind master.
Yuan Xueyue was not in a hurry, nor did she pay attention to them. She didn’t have the time to worry about these concubines’ affairs!
She would try to satisfy their needs, but she would never forgive anything that crossed the line!
Fortunately, they were far less formidable than Lin Yan’er!
Thinking this, Yuan Xueyue picked up her brush and began to write the divorce papers.
Cuiping watched her writing by the window, her eyes slightly moist.
Madam…
After the divorce papers were written, Yuan Xueyue handed them to Cuiping to take to General Guo Liangxian.
She no longer wanted to say anything to him.
There was no point!
Cuiping understood, and clutching the letter, she was about to leave the Pear Garden when she happened to encounter the General coming to find Madam!
“General, this is from Madam for you, please take a look.”
With that, Cuiping bowed and handed over the letter.
Guo Liangxian snatched it, hurriedly opened it, and quickly scanned it. His eyes were filled with mixed emotions!
“Call Madam out!” Guo Liangxian roared.
Cuiping was startled by the roar, but remained calm and said,
“General, Madam does not wish to see you. Please read the letter before speaking with Madam.”
In a fit of anger, Guo Liangxian tore the letter in front of Cuiping!
Whoosh!
He scattered the pieces of paper in front of the Pear Garden gate!
“Get out of the way!”
Guo Liangxian pushed Cuiping aside again and rushed into the Pear Garden to settle the score with Yuan Xueyue!
