Ch 20
“Cough!”
At Young Lady Istina’s cheerful words, Aria inadvertently swallowed her tea wrong. She forgot she was trying to act elegant with her pinky finger raised and slammed the teacup down. Her chest felt like it was filled with water, and she had to hit her chest in pain.
“Cough!”
“Eek! Are you alright, Princess?”
“Princess!”
“Goodness! What should we do!”
Aria was barely calming down, hitting her chest repeatedly, but it only made it more painful. So, she grabbed her clothes tightly and squeezed her eyes shut, when someone patted her back.
The problem was that the vigorous patting made her cough more, which was incredibly painful.
“Huk, ugh……!”
It seemed like they were about to call a doctor, so she had to stop them with her hand.
“I’m, okay, ugh! Cough!”
“Call a doctor!”
“Ah, cough! No!”
Aria barely managed to stop her hacking cough and waved her hand, causing the page to stop.
“No, it’s not bad enough to call a doctor.”
She deliberately spoke without breathing, which momentarily stopped her cough. So, she took a very shallow breath, but it felt like her lungs were shrinking.
It was embarrassing to see a doctor for something so minor. She didn’t want to say, ‘I swallowed my milk tea wrong,’ when asked where it hurt during the examination.
And if it was Young Lady Istina, who loved gossip so much, she would make it into a story and spread it everywhere if Aria had a coughing fit and called a doctor.
She knew nothing about Aria Dolorein. If people’s attention was added to that, it would be a disaster.
Since possessing Aria Dolorein’s body, she should have tried not to be suspicious, but she was too flustered by the twisted original story to do so. But she couldn’t keep going on like this.
She wanted to live a long life. To do that, she absolutely couldn’t be suspected of being a fake Aria Dolorein.
She came to the tea party to not stand out, but she kept doing things that made her stand out, which made her anxious.
“Go on, ugh, go on with what you were saying.”
Christine Istina Marquise Young Lady looked at Aria’s face before opening her mouth again. There were three other people besides her and Aria. The problem was that Aria didn’t know who any of them were.
“Duke Loenbert has gone missing.”
“Oh my, goodness.”
“Is that really true?”
“How ominous.”
Christine Istina, seemingly happy that she was the center of attention for the first time, completely forgot about Aria’s coughing fit and shook her index finger as she spoke.
“Wasn’t the founding day festival not too long ago?”
That’s right. Aria Dolorein had the audacity to try and kidnap the direct heir to the Imperial Family, the Crown Prince, who established the Kalendia Empire. In the original story, it was a success, but this time it failed.
“He got into a Young Lady’s carriage that day, and he’s been missing ever since.”
“Oh my…….”
“I hope the Duke is alright?”
“What if something bad happened?”
“What’s even more suspicious is that it’s the Loenbert Family!”
Aria was holding back her cough by squeezing her lungs, as they were having a pretty interesting conversation. It was a relief that she didn’t cough when she tried not to breathe.
“The Duke disappeared, but they’re not even looking for him, you know?”
“Oh my, then Prince Leventis must be…….”
“There’s a rumor that he did it to take over the succession!”
No, he’s in my house. I accidentally kidnapped him, and he lost his memory. He’s also acting out with small and big tantrums because of me, but he’s in my room.
Aria then started to worry about leaving Killian alone when his condition wasn’t so good. But the Princess also had to do her public duties. If she suddenly disappeared from all social events, they would naturally start to suspect her.
Just like how you practice separating from a puppy to solve their separation anxiety, she had to do the same for Killian.
And she also had to find his memories and send him back quickly.
If she sent him back in his current state, his younger brother, who tried to kill Killian in the original story, would really try to kill him.
Besides, she couldn’t put someone who lost their memory because of her into a snake pit without knowing anything. If he got hurt or died, it would be her responsibility.
If Killian died because of her.
‘Could I live well without any guilt?’
Absolutely not.
She wouldn’t be able to sleep comfortably.
Her body trembled without her knowing.
“How scary!”
“Duke Loenbert’s former fiancée is also suspicious.”
“Huh? Melina?”
Aria, who was lost in her thoughts, inadvertently called her by her first name in a friendly manner.
Of course, they didn’t know her, but Aria knew a lot about Melina because she had read the book.
It was a little disappointing that it was one-sided.
“Were you close with Melina Le Hrehner Baron Young Lady?”
“No. I just wanted to call her by her name.”
“Oh my, Princess, you’re so funny.”
“Please call us by our first names too!”
When they laughed, Aria forced a smile, and they all started laughing even louder.
Aria thought she knew why they were acting like this towards her. Although it wasn’t mentioned in detail in the original story, roughly speaking, they seemed to be close aides of the Dolorein Princess.
The Dolorein Family was the Emperor’s watchdog and a force that supported the Crown Prince.
They were a family that had power, fame, and money.
So, they must have wanted to get on her good side, to get on the good side of her father, who would even catch people for her if she asked. Otherwise, there was no way they would try so hard to befriend Aria Dolorein, who was famous for being a delinquent in the original story.
“I will.”
“But what’s suspicious, Young Lady Christine?”
“Usually, when a fiancé breaks off an engagement and disappears, you’d worry, wouldn’t you?”
“That’s right!”
Their voices, as if they were expecting something, were very annoying. It was as if they were expecting Melina’s misfortune or slander.
In the original story, Melina only became happy after going through all sorts of hardships because “Twilight Flower” was an extremely dark and miserable novel.
Maybe it was because she was the female lead of the book she had read, but the talk about Melina was a bit annoying, but she didn’t show it. Maybe it was because she was possessed by a villainess and was destined to die.
“But even after hearing that news, she hasn’t come out of her territory! It’s like she knew it would happen!”
“Oh my, how could that be!”
“Come to think of it, she was flirting with my fiancé at the debutante ball, wasn’t she?”
“Oh my, now that the engagement is completely broken, shouldn’t we be careful of our fiancés too?”
“Ah, really!”
Aria didn’t think Melina would do that.
But she didn’t know these people well yet, and everything was still unfamiliar, so she just stayed quiet. Even if she said what she knew, she would be at a loss for words if they asked how she knew.
Above all, Aria wanted to shed her villain image a little. That way, her chances of survival would increase.
“Maybe she killed Duke Loenbert and is trying to get along with the second son, Prince Leventis?”
“Oh my! The two of them would look really good together!”
“That’s what I’m saying!”
That was blatant mockery. Leventis had a severe inferiority complex because he was far inferior to Killian in terms of ability and appearance.
Leventis was Killian’s half-brother.
To be precise, the current Killian was a fake who killed the real Killian and became Duke Loenbert. Surprisingly, the fake’s real name was also Killian.
“The Loenbert Family is in big trouble. It feels like just yesterday that the late Duke was happy to find his lost son.”
“That’s a shame.”
She hadn’t seen what Leventis looked like yet, so she didn’t know, but in the book, he was said to have a pretty decent face, even if he wasn’t outstanding.
“By the way, Princess, don’t you have good news too?”
“Huh?”
“We heard everything!”
She didn’t know what they had heard, but Christine Istina’s expression was strange. And her voice was trembling like a goat, and she had no idea what she was going to say. Her strange expression made her want to tell her not to say anything.
“I remember how we were best friends since we were five years old.”
She suddenly grabbed Aria’s hand and got lost in her own emotions. It was a little strange, but her expression seemed to be looking at something else even though she was looking at Aria, so she couldn’t shake her off. It was scary.
“Since then, Aria Princess has told me so much that she would marry His Highness the Crown Prince!”
The Aria of the original story was such a brazen child that she would make love declarations to Christine Istina Marquise Young Lady.
Aria thought that as she tried to pull her hand away.
“Since then, I knew! That one day, the Princess would receive a confession from His Highness the Crown Prince!”
Goodness, how did she know? It only happened yesterday!
“Oh my, oh my!”
“Is that true?”
“Then did His Highness the Crown Prince propose?”
“Kyaa!”
Aria’s head was throbbing because there was a pterodactyl.
“That’s… a misunderstanding. Well, he did propose, but I plan to refuse.”
“Huh?”
“Why?”
“Who else is more suitable for that position than the Princess?”
She didn’t know what to do with the excited atmosphere, as if they were the ones who had received the proposal, but the atmosphere was already too high.
“That’s right. We’re going to get married soon.”
Aria was startled by the unfamiliar voice and turned around to see a large body blocking the sunlight. She couldn’t see his face well because of the backlight, but when she frowned, she saw.
“Your Highness.”
“I came because I missed you, Aria.”
An uninvited guest,
“They said you’d be here.”
He was looking at her with a very innocent expression, as if he didn’t know what he had done wrong.
