Ch 30
“A lover?”
Aria, frightened by Lionell’s harsh question, answered in a trembling voice like a goat.
“Yes…!”
Then, he started to descend the stairs. He stood beside Aria, glaring at Killian, who was nestled in her arms, then looked at her as if he would devour her and continued speaking.
“Sort it out.”
“Pardon?”
“You’re not even married yet, so a concubine is out of the question.”
“We’re not even engaged!”
“The engagement will happen soon. Still, a concubine is not allowed. Get married, and have the first child first.”
She was confused by his words. First, she was surprised that he could take a concubine after marriage, and second, she was surprised that he spoke so casually about having children. But she was in no position to be surprised by such things.
Aria unknowingly started to tremble with fear again. She hated herself for being so pathetic. If only she could speak confidently, but she was just trembling with fear.
“Hey, I’m not going to get engaged…”
“What?”
“I’m not going to get engaged!”
She couldn’t look Lionell in the eye properly because his glare was too frightening. So, she squeezed her eyes shut and shouted while tightly hugging Killian in her arms.
“Let go of him.”
“I can’t!”
If she let go of Killian, she knew what would happen. Killian, who had no memory, absolutely could not be found out by Lionell.
Lionell was the Crown Prince supported by the Imperial Faction, and Killian was the leader of the Noble Faction that supported the Second Imperial Prince.
There was no way Lionell, who would fight for the Emperor’s throne, would let him go. Aria was desperately trying not to tremble, her face pale again.
“Do I have to make you let go by force?”
“If you do that, I’ll hate you!”
As Killian, who was being held, carefully tried to detach himself from her, Aria hugged him even tighter, preventing him from doing so.
She judged that Killian didn’t know how serious this situation was because he had no memory.
Duke Loenbert had lost his memory. What if the Crown Prince found out?
Then there was no way he would leave his most powerful political rival alone.
If Killian disappeared, it wouldn’t be difficult to usurp the throne, and he would smoothly obtain Melina as well. Then, if he didn’t like the Dolorein Family, he could get rid of them.
The second son of the Loenbert Family was a fool and a vain ambitious man who would be more than happy to erase all of the Noble Faction’s achievements that Killian had accomplished, even if it was just because he hated Killian.
Ah, but why does it feel so good to be holding him like this, even in this situation?
She was so confused, yet she felt strange, as if energy was entering her body.
“Aria.”
“Y-Your Highness…”
Frightened by Lionell’s darkened expression, she barely met his eyes. It was hard to breathe, but it was bearable because Killian seemed to have given up on getting away from her and was staying still. However, Killian was starting to get worried as Aria was sobbing and breathing roughly as if she was about to pass out.
She was trembling, and it seemed like she could barely speak.
“He’s not your lover.”
“Ah, that…”
“You’ve loved me for a full 15 years. There’s no way you’d love a guy you’ve known for less than a week.”
There was no mention of 15 years in the original story. So, Aria looked at Lionell with a slightly bewildered expression.
He was feeling guilty about speaking so harshly, perhaps because of the tears welling up in her bright blue eyes. Her tearful eyes were as beautiful as glass beads.
“Show me his face. I’ll just confirm who it is and let him go.”
“You’re not going to just let him go after confirming, are you…”
“……”
She spoke to him, unable to let go of her worries, but Lionell couldn’t continue speaking because he couldn’t lie because of her crying face.
He had originally planned to let him go today.
Only today.
But seeing Aria react like this, he couldn’t let him go. Just who was this person that she would call him her lover and even hug him so easily?
“I’ll let it slide if it’s just a temporary wandering.”
“……”
He was about to be firm, but his heart softened again when he saw her red-rimmed eyes. His mood had been good for the mere 10 minutes he had been with Aria, but then it plummeted to the bottom.
When they had met as if by chance, it felt like an undeniable destiny, but seeing her protecting that lover of hers like that.
He felt disgusted.
But she wasn’t someone who would listen to him just because he forced her.
When he thought of that, his anger subsided. He trusted Aria. He also trusted the actions she had shown him. How could 15 years of love be extinguished in just a week?
If it was just a temporary wandering, he also had some responsibility. If so, he should pretend not to know for now so that she could realize her feelings for him again.
Thinking that, he let out a big sigh.
“Sort it out by tomorrow. No, sort it out by tonight.”
“That’s so unreasonable…!”
“Starting tonight for three days, my schedule to spend time at the Dolorein Estate won’t change.”
She couldn’t have Lionell stay at the mansion for three days.
Aria was sharing a room with Killian, and if Lionell lived with them, she had no confidence that she wouldn’t get caught.
Besides, he was the one who had already opened Aria’s door as he pleased, hitting her nose with the door and causing her to bleed. Killian, who was taking a bath, had been left wet in the bathroom in the middle of his bath and almost caught a cold because he had come to Aria’s room as he pleased, hadn’t he?
“No way!”
“Why?”
Aria was horrified and said no, but Lionell wasn’t listening at all. However, he was starting to feel a little bad that Aria was saying no with such disgust.
Because the Aria Dolorein of the past would have begged him to stay for just one more day.
Now, as the Crown Prince, he was setting aside state affairs to spend three days with her, but she hated it so much.
Lionell didn’t know that he would feel so hurt by her rejecting him. But it felt like he was getting back what he had done to Aria so coldly in the past, so he couldn’t get any angrier.
“So, that’s…”
“So?”
But because he looked so beautiful as he looked down at her with his arms crossed, Aria was staring blankly at him, but then she suddenly came to her senses at the fact that had resurfaced in her mind.
The main culprit of the dead ending was Lionell.
Thinking that, she erased the thoughts that were rambling in her head about how handsome he was.
“Aria.”
Her body was trembling again, and perhaps because she was frustrated that Lionell wasn’t listening to her, her jaw was trembling as well. She had to say something, but she couldn’t think of anything to say, and the man in front of her was too handsome, but he wouldn’t give in even a little bit.
Why was that so unfair and sad?
“Your Highness doesn’t listen to a single word I say, do you?”
“What?”
“That’s right! Are you sure you like me?”
Lionell approached as if he was at a loss, and she could see that he had stopped his arm from hugging her because of Killian, who was being held.
“First, get rid of that…”
“Why are you urging Your Highness’s feelings when you say you like me? You hated it when I acted like that…!”
“Back then…”
“……”
“Back then, it was because I was being a fool.”
“I’m different from before now. It’s hard for me to even face Your Highness now!”
Why was it that only at times like this, he was becoming the Lionell she knew? It wasn’t easy for Aria to treat him, who was being kind to her again, more coldly.
“I was wrong all this time.”
“……”
“Are you angry?”
When she nodded her head vigorously, his expression changed as if he felt sorry.
“Then, should I go first?”
She swallowed and nodded her head again.
“Are you really going?”
When she nodded again to tell him to go, he was about to ask again.
“Really, going?”
“Go!”
He somehow thought that it was all his fault that Aria was treating him like this. That was because Aria Dolorein was such a proud person.
It was true that she had been chasing after him, loving him all this time, but he was the one who had chased her away without showing her proper courtesy each time.
However, he had been mistaken that he didn’t like Aria that much back then, but it wasn’t the case now.
Lionell unknowingly clenched his fist tightly.
He thought that he should have listened properly when Aria was making things difficult for him by saying she loved him. He realized that the reason she had been restraining him, pressuring him, and making things difficult for the people around him like a crazy person was because she was truly suffering from love sickness.
The reason why he understood that was simple.
He wanted to do to the man in Aria’s arms what she had done to the women he had had scandals with in the past.
However, Lionell knew that he shouldn’t show such things to the terrified Aria.
He sighed, then looked around and came down. Then, he spoke softly to Aria.
“I’m sorry.”
