Chapter 13
“Ding ding ding~”
Fang Bai woke up from his sleep, his hand turning off the alarm clock before his eyes even opened.
However, just as Fang Bai was about to laze around for a bit longer, he suddenly reacted. It was the apocalypse.
Fang Bai silently opened his eyes, the sleepiness in his mind vanishing in an instant. He picked up his phone and glanced at it.
Eight o’clock sharp.
He swiped his phone, opened WeChat, and was about to check messages when he was attracted by a red exclamation mark at the top.
“Unable to connect to the network.”
Fang Bai froze, abruptly got up, and checked multiple times, only to find that it wasn’t a problem with his phone. For some unknown reason, all the networks in his house had lost connection. No, it shouldn’t be just his house.
The internet was down.
Suddenly, Fang Bai felt like a kite with its string cut, like a lone island in the vast ocean. An unprecedented loneliness welled up in his heart.
“The apocalypse has arrived,” Fang Bai murmured, reaching out to turn on the light.
“Snap.”
There was still electricity. The light came on, and this light brought Fang Bai a sliver of comfort. Under the light, Fang Bai picked up the Mage Inheritance and looked at it quietly.
A moment later, Fang Bai turned off the light, pulled himself together, and started washing rice and cooking.
Even if the apocalypse had come, life had to go on.
People ultimately had to live, to live well.
After finishing his meal, Fang Bai once again fully armed himself. The only difference was that he changed into an intact thick cotton coat and made some adjustments to the paper armor raincoat, making the paper armor fit his body better and more flexible. At the same time, he reinforced the defense of some vital parts.
He put on his gloves and made sure there were no gaps in his entire body before opening the door and going downstairs. He walked to the elevator, hesitated for a moment, and then turned to take the stairs.
Nine floors down, he went directly to the underground parking lot. When he saw Bai Qing waiting there, Fang Bai’s mood eased a little.
Bai Qing nodded to Fang Bai and then stood there waiting together. It didn’t take long for all eight people to arrive. After everyone was there, Bai Qing spoke.
“The internet is down, and phones can’t get through. You all know that, right?”
“Yes.”
Everyone nodded, not saying much, but obviously, their moods weren’t very good.
Seeing this, Bai Qing continued, “I read a lot of things online yesterday. It’s very scary and very hopeless.
I think the apocalypse has probably arrived.”
Bai Qing said, “There should be no rescue.”
Everyone couldn’t help but feel a little gloomy when they heard this.
“It was better before when the internet was working, it was like everyone was still together, but now the internet is down.”
Bai Qing paused for a moment.
“We eight people, we all met yesterday. On the first day, we were able to take the initiative to go out and hunt zombies. I don’t need to say much about our abilities and courage, they are all good.
What I mean is, now that the apocalypse has arrived, rather than surviving alone or in pairs, it’s better to huddle together for warmth.
At least there’s someone to talk to, a group to fight monsters with, and someone to back you up if you’re bullied.
How about it?”
Everyone pondered when they heard this. One of them asked, “I think I understand what you mean, but if we form a group, how do you plan to develop?”
“Hunt monsters, level up, and when we have the strength, we’ll clear out that zombie and enclose the residential area for development.
If we don’t have the strength now, we’ll live in one unit building together and use the unit building to set up a defense line for living, storing food, and settling our families.
As for development and all that, I just hope to build a self-sufficient small village and survive in this apocalypse.”
After Bai Qing finished his “campaign speech,” the obvious shill shook his head.
“Then I have no problem.”
Fang Bai looked at the shill without saying anything. When Bai Qing’s gaze shifted over, Fang Bai pondered for a moment and then said, “I plan to explore alone.”
Bai Qing nodded after a moment of silence.
“Is that after we get the bows or will you stay for a while longer?
We still need you to take us to get the bows. If you don’t guide us, we probably won’t know how to use them.”
Bai Qing’s words were very comfortable. Fang Bai didn’t have any ill feelings towards this person, so he nodded immediately.
“After getting the bows. Using a bow is very simple, I’ll teach you then.”
“Okay, I’ll trouble you then.”
Bai Qing patted Fang Bai’s arm and continued, “We’re all brothers.”
After Bai Qing finished speaking, he looked at the next person.
“We’ll go together.”
The next one.
“We also plan to go alone.”
These were two brothers. Bai Qing nodded when he heard this.
“Don’t be in a hurry then. There should be a lot of bows in the club. Let’s talk about it after we get the bows. We’ll all be brothers in the future.”
“Okay.”
Apart from these two brothers and Fang Bai, the remaining four people all chose to join Bai Qing, forming a small five-person group.
Although Fang Bai and the two Yang brothers didn’t join them, Bai Qing was very good at socializing and speaking, so the goodwill was still there, and the relationship was considered stable.
However, Fang Bai didn’t forget that there was another small group of four people in the residential area, and he might have to contact them in the future.
“Apocalypse, huh? Idiots, ordinary people, smart people, geniuses, all kinds of people have emerged.”
Fang Bai muttered to himself in his heart.
“Let’s go. The ground is not safe now. We’ll go directly from the parking lot exit.”
After Bai Qing finished speaking, everyone followed him towards the exit.
However, even in the underground parking lot, everyone was still cautious and extremely careful, afraid of attracting that terrifying zombie to the parking lot. In the open parking lot, they weren’t confident they could escape alive.
Fortunately, the journey was safe, and everyone arrived near the exit.
The entrance of the residential area faced the archery club. The exit of this parking lot was on the side of the residential area, about two or three hundred meters away from the archery club, requiring them to walk half a street.
At this moment, Fang Bai and the others were standing at the exit of the parking lot, carefully observing the outside.
The street outside the residential area wasn’t very busy. There weren’t many zombies, only about twenty or so that could move around. This number was still acceptable.
However, the two zombies whose skin was close to being full made them quite wary.
Because according to their experience, the speed of these zombies was already faster than that of an average adult, and their strength was stronger than that of an average adult.
If an ordinary person encountered them, even with the full equipment of cotton coat, paper armor, and motorcycle helmet, they would basically be dead for sure.
“Can we go around them?”
Bai Qing turned his head to look at Fang Bai. Fang Bai pondered for a moment and shook his head slightly.
“We can’t. Behind the club is another street, which is even busier. There will only be more zombies, not less.”
“Then how do we fight them?”
Fang Bai also fell into deep thought, and Bai Qing observed and said, “These two zombies are relatively far apart. We might be able to lure only one of them over, but I’m afraid we can’t handle even one.”
Everyone fell silent when they heard this, and at this time, Yang Jian, the older brother of the Yang brothers, suddenly said, “If you can deal with the other zombies, I can try to deal with one zombie of this level.”
Everyone immediately looked at Yang Jian when they heard this, and Bai Qing asked, “Are you sure? Don’t force yourself if you’re not sure.”
“I killed a similar one before. That one also ate a few people, so it shouldn’t be a big problem. If I can’t kill it, I can still retreat safely.”
Hearing Yang Jian’s confident words, everyone’s eyes looking at him suddenly revealed a hint of surprise.
A thought couldn’t help but emerge in their hearts.
“No wonder they dared to go alone. It turns out they have the strength. It seems they were still hiding their strength and being low-key when we walked together yesterday.”
“My brother has practiced for a while, you can rest assured about his strength.”
Yang Jian’s younger brother, Yang Bo, said calmly, with a hint of pride in his tone. When he spoke, his eyes glanced at Fang Bai inadvertently.
And the others couldn’t help but glance at Fang Bai as well. There was no malice, but Fang Bai noticed this and felt quite speechless.
Who did this offend? He was directly pulled out for comparison.
“Let’s start then. I’ll go lure them over.”
Bai Qing took the initiative to speak. As soon as his voice fell, he walked out of the underground parking lot and stood on the street, carefully adjusting his position to find an angle where only one strong zombie could see him. He approached little by little, making a little noise at the same time.
The noise gradually increased. A zombie noticed Bai Qing, let out a low growl, and ran over. As soon as this zombie ran over, all the nearby zombies that were relatively close rushed over in unison.
At this moment, everyone’s hearts couldn’t help but clench. Fortunately, only one of the two stronger zombies rushed over, and only nine ordinary zombies followed it. This made everyone breathe a sigh of relief.
