Chapter 39
“Whoosh!”
The instant the sound of an arrow piercing the air rang out, a large zombie fell to the ground in front of Fang Bai, and a piece of equipment slowly materialized from its body.
“Why is it another pair of shoes?”
Fang Bai couldn’t help but freeze when he saw the equipment, dumbfounded.
This was already his third piece of shoe equipment. A glance at its attributes showed that it still only provided +1 Agility, offering no value for replacement.
“So it’s for me to change into, huh?”
Fang Bai curled his lips. Though speechless, he still put the shoes away.
After all, it was still a piece of equipment. Even if he didn’t use it, he could give it to someone else, and if they didn’t need it, he could use it for rotation.
Fang Bai walked over and pulled the arrow out of the zombie’s head, using his Mental Power to examine it thoroughly. After confirming it was still intact, he placed it back in his quiver.
This was already the fourth large zombie he had killed in the hotel. Looking around, Fang Bai didn’t see any other large zombies.
“Large zombies are large zombies after all. There should be a limit to how many can be in one area.
Four, there shouldn’t be any more large zombies in this area.”
Fang Bai muttered, opening his attribute panel and looking at his experience bar.
“It should take around a hundred large zombies to reach level nine. That’s not too bad. At this rate, I should be able to kill enough in no time.
I’m just worried that I won’t have enough arrows.”
Fang Bai frowned. He had only brought two quivers on this trip, which meant a total of eighty arrows.
Although Fang Bai was using them sparingly, aiming for muscles or eye sockets each time and basically avoiding hitting hard objects, they were still arrows and would still suffer damage.
Yesterday, in order to reach level eight, he had already consumed more than twenty arrows.
“I still have fifty-three mostly intact arrows. It should be enough to reach level nine, but it definitely won’t be enough for level ten.”
Fang Bai fell silent, took out his phone, and searched on AutoNavi Maps, only to find that the nearest archery club was still the one next to his house, and there were no shops selling arrows nearby.
After searching, Fang Bai turned off his phone and put it back in his bow bag.
“I still have to find a way to get home. The archery club is my best arrow supply point so far.
And if I run out of arrows, I’ll lose ninety percent of my combat power.”
Fang Bai fell silent, lying on his back on the bed, silently looking out the window.
“What the hell was I thinking when I walked so far?
Two hours…”
Fang Bai wished he could slap himself. At this moment, he deeply regretted his decisiveness from before.
“Why be so cautious? Walking for an hour or half an hour wouldn’t have made much difference.
Now I’m going to have a hard time. Two hours, get a car?”
Fang Bai shook his head after thinking for a moment.
“Ordinary cars won’t do. The roads are full of car accident scenes. Most large trucks can’t move. I need something like an excavator.
But where can I find such a vehicle? Is there a construction site nearby?”
Fang Bai pondered with a frown.
“It would be great if someone could escort me.”
Fang Bai felt a bit inconvenienced at this moment. His strength was indeed great, and he could kill a large zombie with one arrow, but his weaknesses were not small either.
Once he ran out of arrows, he would lose ninety percent of his strength, and he couldn’t face many zombies at the same time. Two fists were no match for four hands.
For a two-hour journey, if there was no one to clear out ordinary zombies and strong zombies, Fang Bai’s fifty-plus arrows would not be enough.
But if there was a small team escorting him, the team could deal with ordinary zombies and strong zombies, while Fang Bai’s arrows could focus on large zombies, complementing each other. In that case, fifty-plus arrows, if used sparingly, would be enough.
“Sigh, it’s a nice dream, but where would I find a small team?
If a similar situation arises after I change my job to a mage in the future, I will definitely find a way to raise a group of melee professionals, a group of followers.
Use followers to compensate for my shortcomings.”
“But that’s a matter for the future. How do I get back now?”
Fang Bai frowned.
“Rescue a group of survivors and have them send me back?”
“Not realistic. It’s more practical to find a large vehicle.”
After thinking for a long time, Fang Bai’s eyes suddenly lit up.
“Wait, there seems to be an Automobile City nearby that sells excavators and loaders!”
Fang Bai remembered that he had been here once before and had seen Automobile City. Although he didn’t remember how to get there, it didn’t matter, he had navigation! Fang Bai had downloaded offline maps of the entire city and several nearby cities on his navigation app.
Fang Bai immediately took out his phone, which still had 75% battery life.
Searching for Automobile City in AutoNavi Maps, Fang Bai looked at the destination, which was only a ten-minute walk away, and a smile appeared on his face.
Glancing out at the gradually brightening sky, Fang Bai returned to the windowless room, closed the door, took off his equipment, and after washing himself thoroughly, he put on all his equipment except for the Bone Armor and lay back on the bed.
A moment later, Fang Bai fell into a deep sleep.
When Fang Bai woke up again, the sky was already bright. After washing his face, he put on his Bone Armor, held his compound bow, nocked an arrow, and walked out of the hotel again.
The ordinary zombies that had originally surrounded the hotel had disappeared, but the moment Fang Bai stepped out of the hotel, he was surprised to find a group of strong zombies leading ordinary zombies charging out from their hiding places.
“Damn, ambushing me!”
Fang Bai cursed in a low voice, looking at the encirclement that hadn’t yet closed. He kicked off the ground and charged straight out.
His thirteen points of Strength granted him incredible speed. With a full sprint, Fang Bai broke through the zombie encirclement.
After breaking out, Fang Bai immediately changed direction and ran towards Automobile City.
This time, Fang Bai didn’t take the side streets but chose the main road and sprinted all the way.
Most of the zombies had been attracted to the sides and interiors of buildings.
This made Fang Bai’s plan feasible.
Fang Bai’s run on the road was almost unimpeded, without encountering any zombie obstacles.
Although Fang Bai was spotted by zombies at the sides of buildings along the road as he ran past,
by the time the zombies came after him, Fang Bai had already run past, and these zombies could only follow behind.
The number of zombies behind Fang Bai grew larger and larger. Finally, after running for a certain distance, the first large zombie appeared.
A Small Giant large zombie charged towards Fang Bai like a tank. Fang Bai’s expression remained unchanged as he continued to rush forward, even having the mood to turn his head and glance at the zombie.
“Tsk, you’re not as fast as me.”
Fang Bai shook his head and immediately accelerated forward.
The speed brought by his thirteen points of Strength was enough to surpass some large zombies.
With the appearance of the first large zombie, the second one also arrived.
Then the third, fourth, fifth!
Five large zombies were chasing after Fang Bai, but perhaps because they hadn’t been born for long, the speed of these large zombies was similar, all slower than Fang Bai.
And theoretically speaking, large zombies that were faster than Fang Bai were still relatively rare, just like the large zombie from the day before.
The thought had just crossed Fang Bai’s mind when a roar came from the side.
“Roar!”
A gorilla-like large zombie was rapidly approaching Fang Bai at a speed exceeding his own!
