Chapter 4: It’s Impossible to Cover All the Settings of a Canceled Anime
[space_man][space_man]The humanoid machines that appear in this anime are called Teurugia.
[space_man][space_man]By the way, the question of “why humanoid” has not been particularly resolved. It was originally an OVA anime that jumped on the bandwagon. It was packed with things like robot stuff, sci-fi stuff, and settings that the production side wanted to try, and it was an anime with a lot of unexplained aspects due to the fact that it was canceled.
[space_man][space_man]
[space_man][space_man]”There was a line like, ‘In order to extend the human body, we’re going to blah blah blah about the ability to recognize the physical body and space, and make the human body the brain as a second body,’ or something like that.”
[space_man][space_man]
[space_man][space_man]I recall the vague explanation in the obviously time-filling explanation part of the character called “Doctor” who appears in the anime.
[space_man][space_man]
[space_man][space_man]”Well, I don’t think I need to think about it too deeply. It has nothing to do with me, and it didn’t seem like that setting was affecting the main story. In other words, it’s a simple way for humans to pilot robots.”
[space_man][space_man]
[space_man][space_man]Perhaps it had some greater meaning, but sadly, this anime was canceled, and the many mysterious settings that were scattered throughout will probably never be recovered.
[space_man][space_man]On the other hand, perhaps the production side anticipated the cancellation, as the overall story of the anime is very simple. In other words, it could be said that it lacks depth.
[space_man][space_man]The basic form is the Earthist rule and the resistance of the colony planets, and on top of that, the mystery of the protagonist machine, “Trismegistus,” is pursued.
[space_man][space_man]Of course, the mystery of Trismegistus is unknown.
[space_man][space_man]However, there are a few things that are known. One is that the Trismegistus is a new model developed by New Balance, and that its developer, the Doctor, is a traitor to the organization.
[space_man][space_man]
[space_man][space_man]”‘Trismegistus’…… its appearance is pretty cool, but…… it’s not very strong, is it?”
[space_man][space_man]
[space_man][space_man]The general mass-produced Teurugia has a design that makes it look like a victim mecha, and basically looks like a rounded soldier. Its weapons are also equipped with live ammunition rifles, real swords, or spears.
[space_man][space_man]The coloring is based on blue for the New Balance side, and cream for the protagonist’s rebel army.
[space_man][space_man]On the other hand, the protagonist’s machine, Trismegistus, has a white and gray-based color scheme, and its overall form is unique, as if it were a researcher wearing a white coat or a coat, or perhaps an ancient bishop.
[space_man][space_man]The head has no face, no eyes or mouth, and it has a miter-like crown that priests wear.
[space_man][space_man]In other words, it looks more like a work of art, a sculpture, than a fighting machine.
[space_man][space_man]Originally, it was supposed to have amazing specs, but the protagonist who ends up piloting it is not a soldier or anything, so he can’t make full use of the machine’s performance, and he is constantly being pushed to the brink of being shot down.
[space_man][space_man]Core fans speculated that this was probably the reason for the negative reviews.
[space_man][space_man]
[space_man][space_man]”‘More than anything, this guy is too strong.'”
[space_man][space_man]
[space_man][space_man]The man named Mark stands in front of Shougo.
[space_man][space_man]He’s more than just an ace pilot with a nickname, he’s also a so-called “custom machine” owner.
[space_man][space_man]At this point, the custom machine is just a customized mass-produced model, though.
[space_man][space_man]From the beginning, this man, Mark, stands as the biggest obstacle for the protagonists. However, the reason why he can’t take down the protagonist is mostly because of Jowain, who provides meaningless support and ends up getting in the way, and in the worst cases, his ship is on the verge of sinking and he tries to escape, thus hindering Mark.
[space_man][space_man]
[space_man][space_man]”‘……Well, of course you’d get killed, yeah.'”
[space_man][space_man]
[space_man][space_man]Other than that, there’s the usual “the protagonist’s machine’s hidden power activates and……” but aside from such exceptional situations, Jowain is still the one getting in the way.
[space_man][space_man]When Shougo is reminded that he has been reincarnated into such a man, he feels like letting out a big sigh and taking a nap.
[space_man][space_man]However, he can’t do that. Even though he’s rotten, the character Jowain is a Lieutenant Commander and a battleship captain. He’s the subordinate of the organization’s number two, and his position doesn’t allow it.
[space_man][space_man]Moreover, if he’s not careful, he could be assassinated by the organization. Colonel-dono is a character who will mercilessly abandon his subordinates if he judges them to be useless.
[space_man][space_man]It’s still a mystery why Jowain wasn’t abandoned, though.
[space_man][space_man]
[space_man][space_man]”──You lost the new model to terrorists, and then you used a Planet Killer to cover up the evidence. I see, it’s something Colonel-dono would do. Oh, were those rude words?”
[space_man][space_man]”It’s not worth reporting.”
[space_man][space_man]”Oh?”
[space_man][space_man]
[space_man][space_man]Mark may have been trying to provoke him.
[space_man][space_man]It was an easy pitch, so Shougo returned it lightly. However, Mark seemed to have felt a certain response, and Shougo felt the atmosphere in the room relax.
[space_man][space_man]
[space_man][space_man]”However, I don’t understand. Losing the new model was a blunder, but…… to use such a thing to deal with it. Does the new model have such performance? Does it have something that’s worth sacrificing a whole planet?”
[space_man][space_man]”I don’t know. I’m not from the development department. I don’t even have a single spec sheet. But apparently Colonel-dono judged it to be dangerous, and considering that our Commander Fauden has also approved it……”
[space_man][space_man]”But it’s just a single mobile weapon, isn’t it?”
[space_man][space_man]”It should be. But the fact that Commander Fauden gave his permission is concerning.”
[space_man][space_man]
[space_man][space_man]He says that, but Shougo knows the reason. Because, as a matter of fact, Trismegistus, which unleashed its mysterious power, boasts spectacular specs that can even neutralize a Planet Killer.
[space_man][space_man]Yes, if it can unleash its power, Trismegistus is indeed the strongest machine. It only showed off its power release about three times in the entire series, though.
[space_man][space_man]
[space_man][space_man]”‘Well, Lieutenant Mark and the organization’s problems are a headache, but I also have to pay attention to Trismegistus’ own power release. Anyway, in order for me to survive, I have to ride the winning horse. It should be safer to cooperate with the protagonists, following the meta flow. So, how do I do that……'”
[space_man][space_man]
[space_man][space_man]Shougo glances at his watch.
[space_man][space_man]Eleven hours left. Less than half a day until the first episode of the anime. It’s a long time, but it’s also a short time.
[space_man][space_man]He’s being forced to make a decision. It’s not even enough time to think about it without sleeping.
[space_man][space_man]Considering the various factors that are trying to kill him, Shougo is still thinking about joining the protagonist’s camp.
[space_man][space_man]It’s also because that’s the only decent route he could find.
[space_man][space_man]But more than that, he can’t possibly know the future development of a canceled anime.
[space_man][space_man]In that sense, it’s a terrible gamble, but……
[space_man][space_man]
[space_man][space_man]”……Summon all crew members. You come too.”
[space_man][space_man]”Huh?”
[space_man][space_man]”I have something to tell you. From me. I’m going to make a gamble, right now.”
[space_man][space_man]
[space_man][space_man]In the end, he has no choice but to move.

Desperate to survive, Shougo decides to alter the original story. He manipulates events, exposes the corruption within New Balance, and eventually defects to the Rebel Army, dragging most of his crew with him. He even recruits the anime's protagonist, Yuuki, to pilot the powerful Trismegistus, but the story quickly spirals out of control.
