Ch 235: The Past of Farland World
Ronnie and Owen entered the spaceship together and began to understand the situation of this world, as well as the origin of the monsters just now.
This world is primarily technologically advanced, although abilities like magic exist, they are not common and have gradually been rendered obsolete by history.
This world contains numerous civilizations. Although there is friction between them, they are still in a fairly restrained stage, and life is relatively peaceful.
However, about three hundred years ago, several civilizations went mad for some unknown reason, instantly initiating a war that swept the entire world. The war came suddenly and violently; many people didn’t even realize what was happening and were turned into cosmic dust in their sleep by energy weapons.
The war lasted only about a year. In a war launched with almost negligible losses by several civilizations, most of the world’s living beings perished, and those civilizations ceased to exist.
Even now, no one knows why these civilizations launched a world-ending war.
Fortunately, some survivors remained. Using the technology that wasn’t completely destroyed and the remaining supplies, they managed to rebuild settlements to continue living.
However, the good times didn’t last long. One day, a group of strangely shaped monsters in incredibly large numbers swept across the world. These monsters were almost impossible to kill with conventional weapons. Even if they were blown to smithereens by powerful weapons, they would recover after a while.
The appearance of these monsters once again destroyed the rebuilt order.
In the long confrontation, the survivors discovered that these monsters were born from emotions, a collection of the final resentment of the living beings who perished in the war.
These monsters can sense the emotions of the surviving living beings and attack them. Once killed by these monsters, the survivors would also transform into such monsters.
Moreover, there are many types of monsters. The ‘Fear’ that Ronnie previously eliminated using Chaos Power is the most numerous.
Others include ‘Hatred,’ ‘Resentment,’ and other monsters with different forms and abilities.
Until one day, a person calling themselves a Seeker distributed a potion that allowed those who injected it to obtain emotional power opposite to that of the monsters and awaken the ability to fight against them.
“That’s roughly what you wanted to know.”
The Captain finished speaking, picked up a glass of water, and took a sip.
Ronnie nodded, indicating that he understood.
“You should have injected that potion, right? Can you demonstrate some of that special power?”
Hearing this, the Captain, who didn’t seem to mind, readily displayed their power.
Previously hidden by the isolation suit, after taking it off, Ronnie could clearly see a faint glow emanating from the Captain’s body.
In his perception, it was indeed opposite to the inherent nature of those monsters, and they had a counteracting effect on each other.
“This is the power obtained after injecting the potion. We can freely manipulate it with our will and attach it to weapons, greatly slowing down the recovery speed of Fear. The emotion we use is called Steadfastness.”
Hearing this, Ronnie stroked his chin and fell into thought, while Owen, beside him, looked at the Captain with shining eyes, his face practically screaming that he wanted it.
After a long while, Ronnie asked the question that had been on his mind.
“Before, I saw you using Gauss rifles. Why did you end up using melee combat against those monsters in the end?”
Hearing this, the Captain couldn’t help but chuckle wryly.
“There’s no way we want to risk melee combat when we can fight remotely. The main reason is that to attach emotional power to a weapon, we have to be in direct contact. If we attached it to the bullets of a Gauss rifle, the emotional power would dissipate before the bullet even hits the target.”
“I understand.” Ronnie nodded knowingly. “I thought fighting with bayonets was your hobby.”
Then, Ronnie asked about another matter he was curious about.
“What about that Seeker you mentioned just now? What’s the specific situation?”
“I don’t know. We are just survivors wandering across the colonized planets of various civilizations searching for supplies. We really don’t know much more than that.” The Captain shook their head, then changed the subject. “If you want to know about the Seeker, after the spaceship is repaired, we will go to the largest settlement of survivors nearby. Perhaps there, you can find the information you want.”
“Alright.”
Besides knowing that there is a Primordial Seed in this world, Ronnie knows nothing else. Fortunately, he has two clues; he can find them one by one.
However, speaking of which, the Seeker sounds more like a title than a name, and someone who can develop a potion that converts positive emotions into power is likely not from this world. They probably come from another world.
As long as he can find them, he might find out about the Primordial Seed. At the very least, he could learn about the parts of this world that have been assimilated by Chaos.
As for why Ronnie didn’t ask the Captain, it was mainly because he felt that survivors struggling for survival probably wouldn’t know that much.
But to be safe, Ronnie still intended to ask, but he had to use a more easily understandable way.
Just as Ronnie was about to speak, Owen beside him poked him.
“Audur, can you teach me the power you used before? The one where you threw fireballs.”
Hearing this, Ronnie blinked in confusion and looked at Owen, whose face was full of curiosity.
“You’re the first one to call me by my name directly. But seeing as you’re still young, I won’t hold it against you. But can you tell me why you want to learn this power?”
“Because it’s cool.” Owen gave his answer without hesitation.
This sentence stunned Ronnie. He had heard of people obtaining power either to become stronger, to protect important people, or at least to take revenge, but for coolness, this was the first time Ronnie had heard of it.
Looking at this little guy in front of him, Ronnie smiled and patted his head.
“You’re interesting, little guy. I agree to teach you.”
“Master, please accept my bow.”
Owen promptly knelt before Ronnie, which stunned Ronnie again.
“Where did you learn these things?”
“Before, the people in our tribe who taught skills, the disciples did this.”
Ronnie opened his mouth, eventually letting out a light chuckle.
“I’ll ask you again, are you sure you want to take me as your master?”
“I’m sure.”
Under Owen’s expectant gaze, Ronnie reached out and tapped his forehead.
“Normally, when you become a disciple, you should offer me a cup of tea. But even if you did, I wouldn’t accept you as a disciple. After all, I only have one disciple, but I can still teach you some skills.”
Although Ronnie did not accept him as a disciple, Owen was already very satisfied.
“Thank you, Teacher. I will definitely be a good student.”
Looking at the little tail wagging behind Owen due to excitement, Ronnie chuckled lightly, then asked him to get up and began to teach him some basic magic.
However, in a place unknown to Ronnie, the Book of Fate was quietly changing.
【Name: Owen
Race: Lizardfolk
Identity: #%¥#%¥……@#
Destiny: #@%#@?¥?#@】
Although Owen’s identity and destiny are still a mass of constantly changing gibberish, the words ‘Bearer of All’ appeared for a moment, then turned back into gibberish.
