Ch 57: Will we win?
Before class, Jian Ni and Lan Bao excitedly shared some good news with them.
First, they mysteriously introduced the beginning of the event, attempting to capture attention:
“Listen up, to lift the Dark Blood Curse on Wu La La, Wu Ke Na Na, also known as Naiya, underwent a blood exchange with Wu La La!”
Then, they excitedly described the event’s progression, again trying to grab attention:
“Not only was Wu La La’s Dark Blood Curse lifted, but the Meng Knights’ last member, Moon Star, also appeared!”
Finally, they asked a question, trying to confirm if their words had captured the others’ interest:
“Isn’t that surprising? It turns out that Wu La La’s long-lost sister is Wu Ke Na Na. The real Naiya isn’t Wu Ke Na Na; it’s her sister, Wu La La!”
Rui Bu Si, who hadn’t slept well, had no mood to listen to their passionate speech.
For some reason, she’d been in a strange state last night—both sleepy and unable to sleep, yet still sleepy.
Consequently, she went to bed very late.
But this wasn’t the main reason for her lack of focus; the primary reason was that she had a full day of classes.
Two of them were Director Pa’s Magic Writing and Spell Studies.
There was also a Magical History Studies class requiring extensive note-taking and memorization.
Professor A Lu Ai Ta mentioned last class that she would be checking note recitation before class, and Rui Bu Si hadn’t even finished her notes.
Fortunately, this class was the last one in the afternoon.
Ya Ya didn’t have the mood either.
The Magic Proficiency Exam was only a few months away. Although there were still several months…
…but she hadn’t passed it once.
“Hey, why aren’t you curious at all?” Jian Ni was quite dissatisfied.
He had emphasized the words “the last Meng Knight” and “Moon Star.”
Why weren’t they curious about who Flame Star was?
Following Jian Ni’s lead, Lan Bao hinted, “Yeah, aren’t you curious about who Flame Star is?”
Under Jian Ni’s expectant gaze, before they could respond, another discordant voice from outside their group chimed in:
“In Meng Academy, only Jian Ni’s magic is related to ‘Fire.’ With the appearance of Flame Star, who else could it be but Jian Ni?”
“Hey, Mi Ya Xing, that’s going too far!” Jian Ni had been looking forward to Ya Ya and Rui Bu Si’s surprised expressions all night, and now there was no surprise at all!
The accused person innocently shrugged.
“Anyway,” Jian Ni cleared his throat unnecessarily, “you’ll have Flame Star watching over you from now on!”
Undoubtedly, he was the smartest among the four of them! Lost in his self-satisfaction, Jian Ni didn’t notice that their reactions were quite indifferent.
That was natural. Mi Ya Xing had already said it; if they showed surprise, it would make them look foolish.
A strange sense of responsibility seemed to fall on Jian Ni’s shoulders, though he didn’t know where it came from, giving off an indescribable unpleasant feeling:
“What’s the difference? You almost failed to cast your spell the other day.”
“…”
This was Jian Ni’s most recent embarrassing moment he didn’t want to bring up.
He had only learned magic recently; it was normal for such minor accidents to happen. Even Eric said he had similar experiences when he practiced magic!
Besides, he didn’t completely fail; he almost did!
Unfortunately, Rui Bu Si happened to see it, a memory he wished to erase from her mind even in his dreams.
“That was just a small accident. ‘Three days without seeing someone, one should look at them with new eyes.’ I won’t make such mistakes again!”
Rui Bu Si: “I don’t believe you.”
Ya Ya, who didn’t understand why almost failing to cast a spell was an embarrassing moment, added: “Me neither.”
“Don’t underestimate me! If you don’t believe me, let’s have a contest. If we win, you have to admit I’m the best.”
Rui Bu Si became interested: “And what if you lose?”
“If I lose… if I lose, I’ll lend you Lan Bao’s game console for a month!”
Lan Bao: ?
He pulled Jian Ni aside: “Why is it ‘we’ competing, and why are you betting my game console? Jian Ni, I can’t live without my game console…”
“So you don’t believe we can win?”
“Of course not, we can definitely win, but…”
“Since we can win, why worry about the game console falling into their hands?”
“I guess… that’s true.” Lan Bao vaguely felt something was wrong, but couldn’t put his finger on it.
“So, do you have confidence in winning against them, and making them never underestimate us again?”
“Yes…” maybe?
“Do you?”
“Yes!”
After reaching a consensus, both sides prepared themselves, and Mi Ya Xing, acting as the temporary referee, waved his hand:
“The match officially begins!”
In an instant, the surrounding atmosphere tightened, the lights changed color incessantly, and gusts of wind swirled around them, as if countless invisible forces were surging in the shadows.
One side launched the attack first:
“Flame Star.”
“Ten Stars.”
“Combine——”
The other side was not to be outdone:
“Xiao Luo Bu.”
“Ya Ya.”
Ya Ya, awakened from a nap: “Ga ga.”
“Combine——”“Ga——”
The two sides officially engaged, launching attacks in the strong wind, their shouts and duck feathers flying together in a fierce back-and-forth battle with no clear winner.
Mi Ya Xing turned off the fan in the corner.
“Piao A Piao, stop fanning! There are so many duck feathers; if you keep fanning, they won’t be able to tell who’s who.”
“You’re right.” She put away the fan.
“I’m so nervous, do you think Lan Bao will win?”
“This…” Obviously, only Lan Bao was being overwhelmed; even Ya Ya’s fighting ability was higher than his.
He seemed to be seriously analyzing: “Although the chances are slim, I think it’s very possible.”
“Oh, why did you take off your glasses when you said that?”
“Because I’m afraid that if I wear my glasses and see too clearly, my conscience will hurt when I speak.”
This closely contested battle was finally interrupted by Director Pa’s imminent arrival in the classroom.
Despite this, Lan Bao still lost the use of his game console for a week.
Neither side had won, and even Jian Ni himself could hardly firmly maintain the viewpoint that “Lan Bao wouldn’t lose if the fight continued to the end”.
Director Pa’s class meant a routine uniform inspection; Rui Bu Si, Ya Ya with her overflowing ability, Lan Bao and Jian Ni had…
Had—
Mi Ya Xing, stared at by two earnest gazes, looked behind him:
“Mi Ya Xing, come over here!”
Then, apologetic, “Sorry, someone seems to be looking for me; I’ll be right back.”
Brushing the duck feathers off his head, his hair was so disheveled that its original style was completely unrecognizable. The two looked at each other:
“What should we do now?”
Piao A Piao appeared behind them: “I can help you. I guarantee you can pass Director Pa’s inspection!”
