Ch 82: Midnight cries
Almost all the exams are a thing of the past; now should be the most relaxing time.
However, these past few nights, faint, incessant crying has been coming from outside the girls’ dormitory building. Everyone, sporting dark circles under their eyes from lack of sleep, arrived early in the classroom to discuss it.
Rui Bu Si and Ya Ya didn’t participate, or rather, couldn’t get involved.
—They both slept quite well and didn’t hear any crying at all.
Before bed, one idly tapped a wooden fish, while the other was sadly lamenting that Ya Ya’s duck couldn’t get any snacks and had to diet for its main meals; neither noticed if anyone was crying outside.
“What crying sound?” Wu La La said, completely bewildered. “My sister and I didn’t hear any crying at all.”
Of course, it could also be a matter of the dormitory’s distance from the source of the crying.
However, the classroom discussion had already shifted from what living being was crying to what species was crying, with several versions of the story emerging that morning. At this moment, Wu La La’s point, instead of calming things down, was like pouring water into a pan of hot oil.
The entire class erupted.
“Naiya Princess and Moon Star didn’t hear it, of course, because that monster didn’t dare to harm them.” The thought slipped out, and Ba Bi’s whole body froze.
If the monster didn’t dare harm Naiya Princess and the Meng Knights, what about them, ordinary classmates with weak magical abilities?
The discussion shifted from fear to what kind of monster it was and what kind of defense mechanism should be adopted.
“They seem unable to hear me.” Wu La La sat next to Rui Bu Si. “What kind of monster do you think it is?”
Rui Bu Si was listening intently to the atmospheric story.
“An evil witch whose life was miserable and who is now seeking revenge after death,” was one version she was hearing.
What kind of monster didn’t matter; Wu Ke Na Na and Wu La La were downstairs from them, and if a monster appeared, it could simply jump out the window at night.
With Lan Bao around, recovering from broken limbs would be quick.
Classmates who lived near Naiya were generally more calm.
Wu La La nodded and then curiously looked at Ya Ya.
Ya Ya was immersed in her own sorrowful world: “Poor ducky, it’s just a duck; it doesn’t have to go to school, work, or socialize, yet it still has to eat less to lose weight.”
That sounds so pitiful. She patted the smallest of her Xiong Xiong bears. Thankfully, Head Nurse Da Tiantian said that her Xiong Xiong bears were all healthy, didn’t need medicine, and didn’t need to lose weight.
“Huh?” Rui Bu Si suddenly remembered something and made a surprised sound.
“What’s wrong?”
“Wu La La, do you know when Teacher Victoria has class?”
Wu La La looked at the bear riding a bicycle.
After an encrypted exchange, Xiong Xiong went out for a round and came back; after another encrypted exchange, she nodded: “Xiong Xiong says Teacher Victoria is teaching in the next class.”
“Oh~”
Rui Bu Si seemed to have figured something out; she looked enlightened but also a little angry.
Wu La La couldn’t understand what she was thinking to make that expression, so she offered a Bear Bear biscuit: “It’s a new flavor! After eating it, your mood will improve!”
She also gave Ya Ya and the duck one each.
“Don’t be sad,” she patted Ya Ya’s head reassuringly through Rui Bu Si. “Everything will eventually pass. I can have my Xiong Xiong accompany the duck while it loses weight.”
Xiong Xiong, riding a toy car: ?
The duck, which hadn’t had snacks for a long time, hadn’t even managed to grab the biscuit when a hand snatched it away.
“Ga?”
“I’m sorry, ducky,” Ya Ya said tearfully, eating two biscuits. “You need to lose weight now.”
“Ga ga!”
After class, Rui Bu Si stopped Victoria, who was leaving the classroom next door and heading to her office.
“Teacher.” She took out a crumpled, old piece of paper and handed it over; under her expectant gaze, Victoria took it, puzzled.
After glancing at the content of the paper, she was silent for a moment before smiling. “I’m sorry, classmate, I teach Potionology, not Magical Botany homework. However, I think Teacher Zhong Li Si Ti won’t reject a student’s question just because the homework is poorly written.”
Rui Bu Si: …
She almost forgot that there was content on the paper she wanted to destroy.
“Teacher Victoria, I heard from Director Pa that you are very skilled in witchcraft. I want to know if there are any traces of Witch Magic left on this paper.”
Traces of Witch Magic left after use?
“It seems like a long time has passed. Is it impossible to find out?”
“Of course not,” Victoria said, carefully examining things on the paper other than the homework. “But I need to use some tools. Would it be convenient to go to the office together?”
The office.
Rui Bu Si didn’t really want to go to the office.
If Pa Hua Luo Di saw Victoria, he would definitely come over, and if he saw her homework that had been returned for revision…
“Don’t worry,” seeming to know what she was worried about, Victoria smiled gently and winked at her. “Teacher Zhong Li Si Ti won’t let Director Pa interfere with her teaching plan.”
After thinking for a moment, Rui Bu Si nodded.
At that time, in the Teacher’s Office, Pa Hua Luo Di was arguing with Gulake.
“Hey! I say, is something wrong with you?” After listening for a long time, Director Pa was already very impatient. “I’ve told you, that student who was short and acted a little strangely, she can’t possibly be a Dark Undercover Agent.”
“But I really think she’s dangerous.” Gulake insisted. “It’s better to kill a hundred by mistake than let one slip through. You should arrest her and investigate immediately.”
But actually, he wasn’t sure if he and Pa Hua Luo Di were talking about the same person. He didn’t pay attention to her height or whether she seemed clumsy.
He didn’t even know if she was a Dark Undercover Agent.
Anyway, that girl gave him a very bad feeling, like she had been severely punished with a disciplinary ruler in her childhood and now saw a disciplinary ruler with a mixture of fear and hatred, making her teeth itch uncomfortably.
Regardless of whether she was or not, he didn’t want her to have an easy time; he would insist that she was.
“Evidence?” Sitting in his office chair, Pa Hua Luo Di felt that he really couldn’t reason with him. “If you suspect a student from Meng Academy, you need some evidence.”
Evidence…?
“Shouldn’t my words count as evidence?” The Quark Clan and the Dark Clan have been fighting for hundreds of years. If there’s a suspected undercover agent among the students, shouldn’t Meng Academy immediately lock them up for interrogation, why is he asking for evidence here?
“If you lock her up for interrogation, you’ll have evidence, won’t you?”
Pa Hua Luo Di: …
He didn’t want to say anything to this communication-impaired Vampire Clan member.
The office door opened, and Victoria walked past with Rui Bu Si. Pa Hua Luo Di smiled at Victoria, and Gulake’s alert gaze fell on Rui Bu Si.
Yes, it’s that girl!
He nudged Director Pa, who impatiently waved his hand.
“Teacher Gulake, have we met before?” Rui Bu Si stopped and looked at Gulake, who was trying to get Director Pa to do something, in confusion.
“Of… of course not.” As a noble vampire, he couldn’t just let anyone recognize him.
“But Teacher, your gaze towards me is as if we have a deep-seated grudge.”
