Ch 6: What’s With All the Nonsense
From the surrounding jungle, seven or eight people emerged, each holding a bow, arrows nocked, aiming at everyone present.
Leading them was a burly man, with a missing ear and a terrifying scar on his left face.
“Over the Mountain Wind’s Second Boss, Life-Reaping Ghost!”
Old Gao, upon seeing this man, was instantly scared out of his wits.
Of the three bosses of Over the Mountain Wind, the Big Boss and the Third Boss were rarely seen, but the Second Boss’s appearance was well-known to all.
This was because he had once been a death-row inmate. After escaping from prison, he joined Over the Mountain Wind. His wanted poster had even been posted in Ba Prefecture.
Mainly, the Life-Reaping Ghost’s appearance was too recognizable. Even if you hadn’t seen the wanted poster, you could recognize him at a glance.
The others also recognized this notorious bandit, their faces turning pale.
Given the Life-Reaping Ghost’s way of doing things, he would definitely kill them all.
It was said that the three bosses of Over the Mountain Wind were all martial artists who had entered the ranks. These dozen or so people were definitely no match for these vicious bandits.
What’s more, the opponents had bows and arrows, the sharp arrows pointing directly at them.
The several merchants, along with their dozen or so employees, stood there, not daring to move, fearing that any movement would make them a live target.
“Could it be that we are going to die here today?”
Old Gao’s face was pale, his heart filled with despair.
Suddenly, he thought of Gu Yang beside him, and from his despair, a glimmer of hope arose.
On their side, there was also a martial artist who had entered the ranks!
……
The Life-Reaping Ghost held a Ghost Head Saber in his hand, carrying it on his shoulder, yawning as he saw only a dozen or so mules, and cursed, “I got up before dawn, and this is all there is? D*mn it, is this little bit of stuff worth me making a trip myself?”
A subordinate beside him advised, “Second Boss, we haven’t made a haul in two months since we came here. Even a mosquito is still meat.”
The Life-Reaping Ghost spat out a mouthful of phlegm, “Forget it, let’s just consider it a wedding gift for the Big Boss.”
The subordinate asked the young man who had come to inform them, “What should we do with that traitor?”
The Life-Reaping Ghost roared, “Dare to betray the stronghold, capture him and publicly light him up like a sky lantern.”
The young man, who had been full of fear, became indignant upon hearing the Life-Reaping Ghost’s words, and, sticking out his neck, said, “My family, Zhang Xiaohai, is innocent. I was coerced into coming here by you. I’m not a bandit.”
The Life-Reaping Ghost looked at him, and grinned hideously, “I like hard bones like you the most. In a while, I’ll crush your bones one by one, and see if you can still be this tough—”
Before he could finish speaking, the Life-Reaping Ghost’s expression changed, and he suddenly turned his head. A pebble, carrying a powerful force, flew past his face.
Whoosh whoosh whoosh…
Along with several sounds of air being torn, several archers around them were splattered with blood on the spot, and fell down without even a groan.
Of the nine bandits, only the Life-Reaping Ghost was left standing.
This sudden change happened unexpectedly, catching everyone off guard.
Old Gao and the others were first shocked, then overjoyed.
They were saved!
What they were most worried about was that Gu Yang would be afraid of Over the Mountain Wind and leave them to escape alone.
The most shocked was the young man. He stared blankly at the man, who was only a few years older than him, beside him. From his clothes, he was clearly a hunter from the mountains, except for the fact that he was too handsome.
He hadn’t expected that this man was actually a master who had entered the ranks.
In the stronghold, there were only twenty or so bows. Those who could become archers all had extraordinary skills, and were veterans who had followed Over the Mountain Wind for several years.
This man had killed seven archers with one move.
With such strength, he must be a master who had entered the ranks.
◈◈◈
“I actually misjudged him.”
◈◈◈
The Life-Reaping Ghost did not look at the subordinates who had been killed, but stared fixedly at the young hunter, his expression cold, “For such a small merchant caravan to actually be able to hire a martial artist who has entered the ranks, that’s really strange.”
Gu Yang did not speak, but silently drew a cleaver from his waist.
This was the first time he had killed someone. When he made his move, his hand did not tremble at all.
Even though he was already an Eighth-Rank martial artist, being pointed at by eight longbows made him feel a strong sense of threat.
Just now, when the archers’ attention was drawn to the young man, he had decisively made his move.
The Life-Reaping Ghost held his Ghost Head Saber horizontally in front of him, and shouted, “State your name, my saber—”
Buzz!
Everyone only heard the sound of the blade cutting through the air.
The next moment, they saw a large amount of blood gushing from the Life-Reaping Ghost’s throat. He fell to the ground with a loud thud, his face still showing disbelief. His mouth moved, and from the shape of his mouth, he seemed to be asking, “Who exactly are you?”
Old Gao and the others looked at the corpse on the ground, each of them a little incredulous.
The famous Third Boss of Over the Mountain Wind had been killed with one saber like this?
They had been a little uneasy just now, worried that Gu Yang was too young and not a match for the Life-Reaping Ghost.
Who knew that in the blink of an eye, the Life-Reaping Ghost was already dead!
Gu Yang had only made one strike.
They looked at the young hunter with extreme awe.
◈◈◈
Gu Yang did not look at the corpse on the ground, and put the cleaver back into his waist.
After transmigrating to this world, he had already prepared himself to kill. But when this day really came, he still felt a little uncomfortable.
“Here, if you don’t kill others, others will kill you.”
He thought to himself.
The hidden weapon technique of scattering flowers and the earth-shattering saber strike just now were both killing moves that he had spent time practicing hard in the last life simulation.
It must have been in that life, when he knew his strength was too weak to avenge Liu Family Village, that he had practiced such killing moves.
Gu Yang returned to the merchant caravan’s side and said, “Dispose of the bodies. Also, we encountered bandits this time, so after we return, you’ll have to add more money.”
“Yes.”
Old Gao and the others did not dare to say a word of disagreement. If it weren’t for Gu Yang today, they would all definitely have died here. Even if they had to give more money, they would be willing.
“Right, the government offices of Xiang Prefecture and Ba Prefecture are both offering rewards for Over the Mountain Wind. The bounty for this Third Boss is as high as one thousand taels.”
Gu Yang paused in his tracks. After struggling for a few seconds, he said, “Cut off his head, pickle it with some lime, and take it back to collect the reward.”
One thousand taels could be used for twenty simulations.
What was the big deal about taking a head? It was nothing at all.
“You, come with me. I have something to ask you.” Gu Yang pointed at the young man who had defected from the Over the Mountain Wind stronghold, and walked to the side.
The young man had not yet recovered from the shock of the Life-Reaping Ghost’s death. When he was called, he woke up as if from a dream, and followed behind him.
When they reached a secluded place, the young man knelt down with a thud, “Please, Senior, take me as your disciple…”
Gu Yang lifted him up with a wave of his hand, and said calmly, “I will not take any disciples.”
The young man did not dare to act rashly again under his deep gaze.
“I ask you, what other people are there in the Over the Mountain Wind’s stronghold?”
That’s right, Gu Yang was already desperate for money, and had set his sights on this group of bandits.
