Chapter 22: Little Green Light Spell
“Is anyone in the temple, fellow Taoists?”
Jokingly arriving at the front of Yuqing Temple, several monks teased the inside of the temple. There was no response for a long time, which only made the monks laugh even harder.
I really don’t know why this Taoist temple is still standing. For so many years, their reaction to things has always been so slow.
“Is anyone there, Taoist?”
After waiting for a while, the leading monk turned back and gave Xiang Jiannan a knowing smile. He then shouted again loudly. This time, there was finally a response. Accompanied by several footsteps, it sounded like someone was running out happily from inside:
“Someone’s here, someone’s here, sorry for the delay.”
Before the words had even finished, several Taoists with excited expressions had already appeared. But after seeing that it was a group of monks in front of the temple, their expressions immediately changed again.
They thought it was incense guests visiting, but who knew it was still the bald donkeys from the temple across the way.
Looking at their smiles, it was obvious that they had come to make fun of them again.
“What are you doing here?”
Staring at the monks with unfriendly expressions, one of the Taoists asked impatiently.
The monks came to the Taoist temple quite often, but for some reason, they couldn’t remember their voices over the years. They would often come out to greet them with joy, only to see a few bald donkeys. Over time, a lot of resentment had accumulated in their hearts.
“Benefactor, look, the Taoists in this Yuqing Temple are so silly, and the other two are the same.”
Completely ignoring Xiang Jiannan’s displeased gaze, the monks laughed one after another, pointing at the Taoists as they laughed, as if they had seen something funny.
Benefactor? So there’s one who isn’t a bald donkey.
Only after the monks’ reminder did they notice Xiang Jiannan. The Taoists then realized that there was someone behind them, someone with hair, who looked like a normal person who had come to offer incense. They immediately made a Taoist greeting, and their expressions returned to calm.
They wouldn’t lower themselves to argue with the monks. This was what the Temple Master had repeatedly told them. If it weren’t for this, they would have already fought with these bald donkeys in front of them. They had clashed several times before, and their battle record could be described as tragic.
The monks were numerous and powerful. Once they suffered a loss, they would call for more reinforcements. The Temple Master had always been kind-hearted, and he would often let them suffer a little. But today was more critical. The Temple Master was not in the temple at this time. If they started fighting, they would have no chance of winning.
They really didn’t hear anyone outside the temple just now. They were all inside practicing their skills on time. It was a lazy junior brother who said he wanted to go out for some fresh air who heard them. As a result, he came excitedly, only to be disappointed.
“Where is your Temple Master?”
Looking into the temple, the leading monk seemed to be confirming. The Temple Master of this Taoist temple had profound cultivation. If he was there, they would be a little more restrained after seeing him. But since they had come, they wouldn’t be afraid. At worst, they would go back and call for reinforcements like before.
It had to be said that these three Taoist temples were very strange. Their names seemed to be related, but in reality, they each went their own way and never helped each other. This was why they had so few concerns. If they were just a little united, their incense offerings would probably be much better.
The master in the temple said that there seemed to have been a conflict many years ago. The specific reason was unknown. Anyway, they still had that “we’ll never see each other again” attitude to this day.
“The Temple Master went out today. Is there anything you need?”
The little Taoist who spoke was completely giving Xiang Jiannan face when he calmly told the monks.
His hatred for the monks was more than that of his fellow disciples. He didn’t understand why they always came to cause trouble in front of the temple every few days.
They were already being suppressed badly enough, and they still had to be bullied from time to time.
It was truly a disgrace to the reputation of cultivators.
“That’s perfect. We have a question and have come specifically to ask you for advice.”
Hearing the Taoist say that their Temple Master was not there, the leading monk felt even more relieved. He gave Xiang Jiannan a “watch me” look, and his tone was clearly provocative:
“I’m just afraid you won’t be able to answer.”
“You’re right, we really can’t answer.”
Having seemingly been tricked by the monks before, as soon as he finished speaking, one of the Taoists immediately admitted defeat. He didn’t fall for his provocation. As soon as he finished speaking, he began to see them off:
“We don’t cultivate the same Dao. If you have any doubts, you should go back and ask your own master.”
Then he looked at Xiang Jiannan, wanting to see his reaction.
Honestly, he really hoped that this young man with a somewhat handsome appearance would be on their Taoist temple’s side. During this period, the three Taoist temples really needed support.
Even if it was just to come in and offer a stick of incense.
“Benefactor, you see, these Taoists don’t even understand the most basic etiquette!”
Not wanting to cause trouble in front of Xiang Jiannan for the time being, the leading monk could only give them a fierce glare first. Then, he turned to look at Xiang Jiannan, his words full of mockery:
“Being neighbors with them is truly an insult to the prestige of my Buddhist sect. Benefactor, let’s go.”
After speaking, he made a “please” gesture, as if he didn’t want to stay here for even a moment longer.
If it were any other time, they would definitely not let it go today. Their temple was so powerful now. These few little Taoists were just asking for trouble.
They would remember it for now. After this benefactor left, they would come back to settle the score. Anyway, the Taoist temple would definitely not move away.
It had been so many years, and they still didn’t know their place.
“Wait a minute, these Taoists are really generous. Even when facing impolite people, they still maintain their composure.”
Having watched the monks’ disrespect towards the Taoists the whole time, Xiang Jiannan felt that they were really too cowardly.
The other party had already run to their door to clamor, and they were still able to endure it? Is this all you’ve cultivated? Who is your master? I, Xiang Jiannan, want to meet him.
“How so?”
Hearing Xiang Jiannan say that the Taoists in Yuqing Temple were very generous, the expressions of the monks all became dull for a moment. They didn’t know if he had a hidden meaning in his words, or if he only meant the surface meaning. After a moment of pause, they hesitantly asked.
Impolite people, is he talking about us?
“You can leave now. I have a few words to say to these Taoists.”
Ignoring the monks’ questions, Xiang Jiannan continued to speak. Then, he walked through the gap and started walking into Yuqing Temple.
This action directly stunned both groups of people. It wasn’t until his feet stepped into Yuqing Temple that the Taoists reacted from their confusion. Following closely behind was only the suppressed joy.
No matter what he was going to say, at least he had regained some face in front of the monks. It just showed that this incense guest had an extraordinary appearance and seemed to be a person who was true to his word.
He has good taste.
“Benefactor, that’s not appropriate!”
Seeing that the Taoists were already walking into the Taoist temple, surrounded by Xiang Jiannan, the leading monk finally reacted. Looking at their figures, his attitude suddenly turned bad.
He felt that Xiang Jiannan was doing it on purpose, that he was deliberately trying to find fault with them. No matter what your identity is, he would get back his face first.
“What’s not appropriate?”
Stopping and looking at the monks outside the temple, Xiang Jiannan said calmly. As a gentle breeze blew through the temple, he suddenly had a bold idea. He immediately used his hand to draw a Taiji in the air, guiding the green Qi to swirl in front of his eyes:
“Among you, is there anyone who can understand my little Green Light Spell?”
