My Master is the Real Boss Chapter 4

Chapter 4: Our Master and Disciple Have Hope

Xiang Jiannan had a very long dream.

In the dream, various past events converged, and people he had met at different times appeared one after another. After a chaotic mess, they finally succeeded in sending him out of the dream. When he opened his eyes, he found himself lying on the soft couch in the temple.

This soft couch was usually enjoyed by his Master. Putting aside the spiritual aspect, it was currently the most valuable thing in the Taoist temple.

“Disciple, you’re awake?”

Still not recovered from the heartache of the test paper marked with red crosses in his dream, Xiang Jiannan saw his Master walk in from outside, smelling strongly of medicine, and carrying an absurdly large box.

The box looked very heavy, and he had never seen it before.

“The Chen family matter, is it resolved?”

Seeing his Master carefully place the box on the wooden table, Xiang Jiannan subconsciously felt that he was definitely going to cause trouble again. Other people’s Masters were all steady and disliked movement, but this Old Taoist Priest was the opposite of everyone else.

He was full of ideas all day long, and would often cause trouble outside the Taoist temple. Putting aside the Chen family matter for now, further back, there was also the widow Wang in town.

A Taoist Priest, actually thinking of being a matchmaker for others. If he hadn’t been quick-witted that day, the person in charge of this Ping’an Temple would probably have changed.

The leader of that group was a burly man with brute strength. One kick of his had shaken the door bar he had just put in place, causing him to eat a mouthful of dust. After that, he had to reason with them in the temple, and finally, with a smile, he had managed to coax them away.

“That’s natural, you stay still for now.”

Looking back at the outside, Xiang Jiannan’s Master was extremely excited. After licking his lips several times with his tongue, he then tremblingly opened the wooden box, his hands shaking, and his eyes shining brightly.

“Look, our Master and Disciple have hope!”

As the box on the table was opened, Xiang Jiannan’s puzzled expression turned to shock. After confirming it several times, his tone of voice was like his Master’s hands.

Has Master changed his profession? So much silver and copper coins, could he have done something illegal!

“In a few days, Master will take you to the best restaurant in the county to broaden your horizons. I tried it last month, and the craftsmanship is very exquisite!”

“Is the Chen family alright?”

Unlike his Master, who was so excited he was about to fly, Xiang Jiannan did not show too much of an excited reaction to the pile of hard currency on the table. It wasn’t that he didn’t like it, but the more he looked at it, the more uneasy he felt.

The Chen family had dozens of members, big and small. His Master wouldn’t be so bold as to commit murder in broad daylight that day. There was no gold or jewelry, so this was at least a theft. If he went to the government office to turn himself in now, maybe he could still get the Chen family’s forgiveness.

After all, he had risked his life in their residence. To be fair, they would have to give him a little face, right?

“Chen Laoyezi just left not long ago. When he left, he even said that he would come to see you again in two days.”

Seeing that his disciple didn’t seem to be moved by the money, Xiang Jiannan’s Master thought that he might have been stimulated. It was said that people shouldn’t be too poor, otherwise when they suddenly became rich, they might not be able to handle it. Even he himself, after working hard these past two days, hadn’t expected to earn so much.

He had held many heavy things in his hands in his life, but none of them had ever made him as happy as he was now.

“Master, tell me the truth, where did these things come from?”

Realizing that he might have overcomplicated things again, Xiang Jiannan decided to be direct.

Perhaps it was the Chen family’s gratitude afterwards. Chen Laoyezi had just been here.

“Of course, it was earned by your Master.”

Not understanding the meaning behind Xiang Jiannan’s words, the Old Taoist Priest touched the box to his heart’s content, then closed it again. After that, he opened the wooden cabinet and took out a thick stack of Peace Talismans, as if something was waiting for him, and he was about to leave again:

“Put the box away, I have to go out for a bit.”

After adjusting his Taoist robe, the expression on his face also returned to calm.

After leaving this room, he would continue to be a Taoist Priest who brought blessings to the area.

You should also ask me if I can get out of bed.

Stretching his neck to watch his Master leave, Xiang Jiannan could tell from his back that he was up to no good. Turning his head, he stared at the wooden box for a few moments, and finally decided to listen to his Master first.

He got up, got out of bed, and then used his Master’s bedding to cover the wooden box tightly.

The pain in his body didn’t seem as bad as he had imagined. After walking a few steps, he even felt it lessening.

Draping his Taoist robe, he made his way to the front courtyard. Xiang Jiannan heard the commotion from afar. When he passed through the long corridor and poked his head out, he just happened to see his Master engaging in a commercial activity very similar to his original world.

A wooden table, behind it was the clay statue of the Grandmaster. The Temple Master of Ping’an Temple, his Master Xiang Jiannan, was currently waving the Peace Talisman in his hand, introducing it to the group of people surrounding him:

“This is the treasure that protects our Ping’an Temple. When the Grandmaster drew it, he personally blessed it. It was originally intended for future disciples to use to resist calamities. Today, for the sake of the common people, I, the Old Taoist, can only take it out. There are only one hundred and eight of them.”

“Taoist Priest is compassionate, this disciple is grateful.”

“Ping’an Temple, you are really doing this for our own good.”

“Ten copper coins each, I want them all!”

“I’ll offer thirty!”

“One string of cash!”

Looking at his Master, who had to climb onto the table because of the crowd’s excitement, Xiang Jiannan, who had been left on the side like a transparent person, was convinced.

An auction? His Master’s brain was really wasted on being a Taoist Priest. If he hadn’t put on the Taoist robe, he would definitely be a wealthy man now.

When did the Peace Talismans in the temple become so popular? If he remembered correctly, those Peace Talismans were drawn by his Master when he had nothing to do. There were many more of these so-called treasures that protected the temple in the cabinet.

Just like a calligrapher who likes to write a few strokes when he has nothing to do, Xiang Jiannan’s Master loved to draw Peace Talismans when he wasn’t wandering around. It wasn’t that he was dedicated, but he just didn’t want his hands to be idle. The business of Ping’an Temple had always been described as miserable. Most of those talisman papers could only lie in the cabinet after they were completed.

They couldn’t be given away, no one wanted them.

What was the reason that these slow-moving products had become hot commodities? Among the people buying the Peace Talismans, there was also the burly man who had kicked down the door that day and then wanted to kill and dismember him.

Looking at him now, he was completely different from before.

“Be pious, the Grandmaster is watching.”

Seeing that the crowd was becoming too agitated to control, Xiang Jiannan’s Master suddenly shouted loudly. After getting down from the table, he pointed to the box next to him and took out a red paper from his sleeve, solemnly saying:

“One for each person, just put your merit into there.”

“No forcing, it all depends on your heart for the Grandmaster.”

Wonderful!

Finally understanding where the money his Master had carried in came from, Xiang Jiannan was still a little scared at this moment. If the Grandmaster was really watching, wouldn’t there have been some natural disaster that had already split open the roof?

Although he felt that this was not good, when he looked at those people putting money into the box, he really did feel happy along with them.

Respect cannot be judged by appearances alone. From his Master’s perspective, Xiang Jiannan felt that he was definitely doing this for the sake of Ping’an Temple.

Being a Taoist Priest was really too poor. During the time he had transmigrated here, his little belly had already disappeared. Every day was clear soup and plain water. Sometimes he just felt like his eyes were turning green. If the incense of Ping’an Temple could become popular because of this, it should also be a good thing for the Grandmaster.

After all, he stood here every day, and what he wanted to see was definitely not just dust.

Thinking like this, he actually felt at ease.

Aside:

Today I want to thank someone, although I don’t know if they are a robot or something.

Their name is: Macabre

I want to say to you: Thank you very much!

I originally wanted to say this when I was writing the previous book. I thought about it for a long time, and I felt that “thank you very much” was not enough to express my thoughts. Today, I won’t be brewing it anymore. Really, thank you very much!

Having transmigrated and become a Little Taoist Priest of Ping'an Temple, Xiang Jiannan feels that his life is quite tragic. Since transmigrating, all sorts of things that don't align with his original worldview have come his way, especially that Master in the Taoist temple, who is definitely clueless about how much he's screwing people over. Let's see how a Little Taoist Priest strives to grow while shedding tears of frustration. *** Xiang Jiannan, a modern soul mysteriously transmigrated into the body of a young Taoist priest in the remote town of Ping'an, just wants a quiet life. He's stuck with a master who's more interested in making a quick buck than imparting wisdom, and the local temple, Ping'an Temple, is more dilapidated than divine. But peace is short-lived. When a local family claims their "Peace Talismans" are useless against a haunting, Xiang Jiannan is reluctantly drawn into a series of increasingly bizarre events. As he investigates, Xiang Jiannan discovers that Ping'an Town is a hotbed of strange occurrences, from restless spirits to a pig demon with a penchant for collecting debts. With his master's help (or hindrance), and his own surprisingly potent, though often unpredictable, abilities, Xiang Jiannan must navigate this supernatural chaos. He finds himself forming an uneasy alliance with a mysterious agent from the Fu Mo Si, a government agency dedicated to suppressing the paranormal, and facing off against a variety of colorful characters, both human and otherwise. Along the way, Xiang Jiannan grapples with the meaning of cultivation, the effectiveness of his master's questionable methods, and the very nature of good and evil. His journey is a blend of comedic mishaps, genuine moments of terror, and a deep dive into a world where the line between the mundane and the magical is constantly blurred. He'll be forced to question everything he thought he knew about Taoism, about his master, and even about himself. And through it all, he must learn to trust his instincts, even if they lead him down the most unexpected, and often hilarious, paths.
