Chapter 6: The Problem: How to Use the Peace Talisman
It was the Man in Black standing at the back who spoke, and with just one sentence, he calmed the tense situation.
Forcibly pushing his blade back into its sheath, the government official who had drawn his sword looked at Xiang Jiannan as if he wanted to devour him.
“Consider yourself lucky.”
A High-Level Person often only makes a move at a critical moment.
Seeing that the Leading Official was still unwilling even as he retreated to the side, Xiang Jiannan ignored his glare.
He knew the Man in Black would speak up in time, because from the moment he saw him, he felt that this person was not simple.
He had the aura of an Important Person.
Important People are very particular about timing, and rarely act impulsively over a disagreement, unless it’s a matter of irreconcilable hatred. Doing so would make them seem unwise.
Of course, those second-generation heirs who don’t count as people are an exception. If you encounter them, it’s best to be more alert.
“Of course, Old Taoist, I never lie.”
Currently relying on the Peace Talisman to pave his way to wealth, Gao Yu’an was most annoyed when others raised such questions.
Many people had seen the golden light at the Chen Residence that night. This could be confirmed by asking anyone. The evil had been exorcised, so why question them further?
The Peace Talisman that emitted the golden light was personally given by him to Chen Laoyezi. In gratitude, the other party had generously given him some silver.
Donating it to Ping’an Temple was perfectly reasonable.
“Taoist Priest, forgive me, but I’m asking the Little Taoist Priest with the pitted nose next to you.”
Slowly stepping forward, the Man in Black smiled at Gao Yu’an.
He looked to be in his thirties, with a square face and thick eyebrows. His smile was very different from his previous demeanor.
One was unapproachable, the other was as warm as spring.
This person really doesn’t know how to talk.
Unconsciously touching his nose, Xiang Jiannan was speechless at the Man in Black’s keen observation. He did indeed have two pits on his nose, left over from squeezing pimples a while ago. Not yet fully accustomed to his new body after transmigrating, he had been a little too heavy-handed.
Logically speaking, those two pimple pits shouldn’t be that obvious. Pimples, it seems, happen in any world. At least on him, this explanation holds true.
“Yes, everyone saw it.”
Not understanding why the newcomer was so concerned about this, Xiang Jiannan thought for a moment before answering affirmatively.
He had indeed seen the golden light. As for the Peace Talisman, it was hard to say. He had been on the verge of death, tormented by the Headless White-Clothed, and had no energy to pay attention to anything else.
Before the Headless White-Clothed disappeared, it had been holding a talisman. In his daze, he hadn’t seen it clearly. Since his Master said it was a Peace Talisman from the temple, as a disciple, he naturally had to support it, even though this Old Taoist Priest was usually a bit unreliable.
“Could you demonstrate it for me again?”
Seeing that Xiang Jiannan hesitated when answering, the Man in Black continued.
Not knowing what he was up to, but he seemed very interested. With that one sentence, Xiang Jiannan started to lose his confidence.
What does he mean? Does he want to buy a couple too?
Not daring to say it outright in front of so many people, he quickly racked his brain for a solution.
This Man in Black was even more ruthless than that government official. Such a professional request was clearly intended to ruin his business.
It would be fine if he was a professional, but the problem was that he was not, except for the Taoist robe he was wearing.
Compared to the people of Ping’an Town, Xiang Jiannan’s understanding of the Peace Talisman was not much greater than theirs.
Wasn’t the Peace Talisman supposed to activate on its own when something happened? How was he supposed to demonstrate it?
This was really difficult.
“The area is peaceful right now, so it might be difficult to fulfill Your Excellency’s request.”
Tentatively stating his predicament, Xiang Jiannan glanced at the Man in Black.
He felt that this guy was from the anti-counterfeiting department, full of bad intentions.
“Just activate it, I only want to see the power of your Peace Talisman.”
Another sentence that Xiang Jiannan didn’t understand. The Man in Black looked puzzled as he spoke, looking at the Little Taoist Priest’s troubled face, not understanding why he was so distressed.
A Peace Talisman is still a talisman, so it shouldn’t be difficult to use, right? Like reciting an incantation or something.
What to do?
Helplessly turning his head towards Gao Yu’an, Xiang Jiannan really needed his help right now. Today, he had encountered an expert. This matter had to be dealt with by his Master personally. The talisman was drawn by him, so he was the authority on how to use it.
But things didn’t go as he wished.
After seeing Xiang Jiannan’s panicked eyes, Gao Yu’an immediately understood. He responded with his eyes as well, but his body remained rooted to the spot. He wore a smile, baring his big yellow teeth, conveying only two words:
Go for it!
With a “slap,” Xiang Jiannan stuck the Peace Talisman to his forehead. He had no other choice. He had wanted to push the matter to his Master, but he didn’t have the courage while being stared at by the Man in Black. So, he simply ignored everything and took action, hoping to clear his head first.
Uncle Ying did it like this back then. He would just pretend to be a zombie for now.
Is this Little Taoist Priest messing with us?
As Xiang Jiannan stuck the Peace Talisman to his forehead, everyone present gradually became impatient. At first, they thought there would be a golden light, but after waiting for a while, they found that nothing was happening.
What did it mean to stand there motionless? Could it be that this Peace Talisman also had a petrification function?
“Putting on an act, are you trying to make fools of us?”
The first to lose patience was the Leading Official. After a long few minutes, he felt that he had been humiliated again.
Today’s trip had not been in vain. He had caught two swindling Taoist priests. He knew there were many suspicious points about the Chen family’s incident, and an investigation had proven it.
What golden light? He would vent the anger he had been holding back first.
“I messed up, let’s try again.”
Catching the Leading Official’s movement with only one eye, Xiang Jiannan’s speed in tearing off the talisman was no less than his. Before the official could grab him, he slapped the Peace Talisman onto his forehead again.
That big forehead was really shiny! After sticking it on, his hand hurt a little, and he felt a deep sense of regret.
He was going to be in trouble again today. In his panic, he had made such a decision. Looking at the official’s forehead, it had turned a large patch of red.
Whoosh.
After sticking the Peace Talisman, Xiang Jiannan retreated quickly. He noticed that the oncoming official paused for a moment. Just as he was about to angrily tear off the Peace Talisman, a miracle happened.
A golden light flashed from the official’s forehead, instantly enveloping his burly body. The light intensified, and after it dissipated, the official who had been stuck with the Peace Talisman reappeared in everyone’s sight.
His face was completely black, and he stared at everyone with wide eyes.
“Are you alright?”
“I’m fine. Isn’t it supposed to be a Peace Talisman? I just feel like I’m not at peace at all right now…”
“Enough.”
Very satisfied with the effect he had witnessed, the Man in Black immediately stepped in to smooth things over. After confirming that the official was unharmed and letting him rest, he turned to Xiang Jiannan and his Master and said:
“Let’s find a place and chat?”
But just as he finished speaking, he noticed that both Taoist priests seemed to be lost in thought.
Did Master just secretly help me?
Well done! The Peace Talisman is going to sell like crazy again.
