Chapter 20: The Shape of a Dream – 10
ㅤ━━I had a dream. A children’s dream. A dream of children laughing in a soft light.
ㅤ
ㅤ”Hmm……”
ㅤ”Are you awake?”
ㅤ”Yes……”
ㅤ
ㅤFingertips caress my cheek as I’m still dazed. I follow them and find a beloved smiling face asking,”Were you dreaming?”
ㅤ
ㅤ”Yes, a children’s dream……Two, no, three of them, I think.”
ㅤ
ㅤWhen I answer, still half asleep, Lily gently urges me,”And then?”
ㅤ
ㅤ”One was my younger brother……I couldn’t tell about the other two because they were still small, but they all seemed happy.”
ㅤ”That’s a good dream.”
ㅤ”Yes, it is. I want to see it a little longer.”
ㅤ
ㅤI grab the hand that was caressing my cheek and pull her closer. I ignore her flustered voice calling out,”Arnold!”and close my eyes again.
ㅤ
ㅤ”It’s a good dream.”
ㅤ
ㅤI, standing beside her, was also bathed in the same light as the children. I feel like I’ve always wanted to go there. Into the soft light.
ㅤ
ㅤ”There’s no time to sleep in.”
ㅤ”Just five more minutes.”
ㅤ”Oh my. You’re such a handful.”
ㅤ
ㅤSaying that, Lily snuggles into my arms, and my dream takes the shape of a warm light.
