Chapter 43: Second Uncle Hasn’t Heard Of This Technique Either
After a sigh, I readjusted my mentality and cheered myself up.
Squatting down, I carefully looked at the characters displayed on the lake surface. These characters were not difficult to memorize. Once I felt I had them all in my mind, I began to meditate on the spot.
Since this Daoist book’s cultivation requirement is related to one’s state of mind, I naturally understood that I needed to be single-minded and empty myself to better grasp the essence of this technique.
As I emptied myself, these scriptures slowly appeared in my mind, and my body began to change, feeling a sense of transcendence all over.
I don’t know how to describe this feeling, but it was like a chess player who sees everything and can strategize at will.
At this moment, my eyes were closed, but the scene on the lake surface actually appeared in my mind. The perspective in my mind was as if I were standing at a high place, like God’s perspective, looking down at myself typing.
Then, this perspective slowly pulled forward, and I saw the characters on the lake surface begin to distort, transforming into a group of fish that swam over and circled around me as I meditated.
Just as I was wondering if the real scene was changing like the image in my mind, the perspective in my mind saw the fish surrounding me begin to dive into the lake bottom and disappear.
I immediately opened my eyes and looked at the lake surface. The scriptures were gone. Before I could think further, I felt a sensation of weightlessness.
The feeling of weightlessness came so quickly that I didn’t have time to react before I fell into the lake. My natural reaction was to desperately swim upwards, but I couldn’t. I kept sinking towards the bottom, and a sense of impending death instantly struck me. However, I seemed to have no way to resist. I tried to cover my mouth and desperately gasp for breath through my nose, but it was useless. My consciousness began to fade.
At this moment, only a few words came to my mind: “I think I’m going to die! Second Uncle, save me.”
Afterwards, I seemed to have fainted. Then, I heard a “smack” sound in my ears. I felt myself fall to the ground, and my face felt a burning pain.
When I opened my eyes, I saw Second Uncle squatting in front of me, looking at me with a worried expression.
【What happened to you just now, Little Child? 】
Second Uncle asked with concern.
I roughly explained the situation to Second Uncle. He sat on a chair, pondered for a moment, and then said:
【I haven’t heard of a technique called Bodhi Mind’s Eye. 】
I stood up, touched my cheek, and complained to Second Uncle:
【Second Uncle, did you just punch me? Why does it hurt so much? 】
【……】
Second Uncle looked at me with an unutterable expression, and I knew he had punched me directly in the face, not just slapped me.
【Ouch… Second Uncle, you’re too ruthless. 】
I rubbed my face vigorously. Second Uncle said helplessly:
【As soon as I woke up, I saw you hunched over the table, covering your mouth with all your might, looking like you were suffocating. I shook you hard, but you didn’t seem to react. I felt like if I didn’t wake you up, you might actually suffocate to death. 】
I knew Second Uncle was telling the truth; he had no reason to lie to me. I could only sit down on the nearby chair and rub my face.
【If you hadn’t just said it was due to practicing Daoist techniques from the Daoist book, I would have thought an acquaintance from Beijing had come looking for me. You scared me. 】
Second Uncle smiled, seeming more relieved than anything.
However, I also knew clearly that if Second Uncle hadn’t woken me up in time, the consequences would have been unthinkable. I felt a bit fearful and also a bit fortunate.
Seeing that I was not seriously injured, Second Uncle stood up from his chair and began to wash up, while I picked up my mobile phone to check the time.
【Huh? 】
I uttered in confusion.
Because it was already past twelve o’clock noon.
【When did I start reading this Daoist book, Taiping Qingxin Mantra? 】
I said this unconsciously, then thought hard and muttered to myself:
【It seemed to be sometime between four and five in the early morning. 】
Eight hours had passed in an instant!
I felt like I had only spent about an hour on that boundless lake, and I didn’t expect time to pass so quickly in reality. This surprised me greatly.
However, I couldn’t figure out the reason, so I picked up the Taiping Qingxin Incantation from the table and started reading again.
This time, it wasn’t like the early morning; I felt nothing. My mind was occupied by the suffocating scene I had just experienced.
It was impossible for me to calm down. I could only close the Daoist book, re-wrap it, and put it on my back. If my current state of mind wasn’t suitable for reading Daoist books, then I wouldn’t read it for now; otherwise, it would be a waste of time.
Sitting on the chair, I felt a sense of emotion after experiencing this event, as if I had almost died again.
Why “again”?
The last time in Xishan Village, if Second Uncle hadn’t stopped that wrathful ghost and thrown it out, I would have failed in that matter.
And this time, it was also Second Uncle who woke me up in time; otherwise, the consequences would have been uncertain!
It seems that attaining the Dao is not an easy matter!
It’s harder than ordinary people making money, but even though it’s difficult, I have no intention of giving up. Second Uncle also said to persevere as much as possible.
【Little Child, take it easy here for a bit. I’ll go out and buy some lunch. What do you want to eat? 】
After Second Uncle finished washing up, he came out and said to me.
Second Uncle’s tone was very calm; clearly, the recent event hadn’t significantly affected his state of mind.
【Whatever you buy is fine, Second Uncle. I don’t have much appetite. 】
I said to Second Uncle.
After experiencing some tense and thrilling events, a person’s instinct will instantly adjust their body’s functions to a state of tension. In such a state, it’s normal not to want to eat and to have no appetite.
Second Uncle nodded and went out the door.
When I told Second Uncle about this just now, he said he hadn’t heard of the Bodhi Mind’s Eye technique. So, this technique must be inherent to the Daoist book, Taiping Qingxin Mantra.
And this Daoist book is selective. Given the circumstances, it’s normal that Second Uncle hadn’t heard of this technique’s name. Perhaps very few people have been able to cultivate this technique throughout history!
However, I am quite curious about how powerful this technique is. At this moment, I naturally want to try it to see what its effect is. But after hesitating, I decided against it. After all, this is a hotel room, and Second Uncle is out buying lunch. If something else happens, it would be truly disastrous. So, it’s better to be safe and at least try the technique when Second Uncle is present to see its effects.
