Ch 161: Gray And Nia’s Triumphant Return
When Nia and Grey returned to the Guild to submit proof of the Wind Eagle Griffon’s extermination, Anda finally relaxed.
“Phew, seeing Mr. Grey return in such an exhausted state, I thought you had failed. Thankfully you’re alright, just tired.”
After checking Grey and Nia over, Anda began to complain.
“You two, too. The Wind Eagle Griffon is an S-rank Monster, and although Nia is very strong, Mr. Grey is just an ordinary person. It’s a good thing Mr. Grey is alright; otherwise, Guildmaster Buck would come asking about my bonus.”
“Anda… it was actually Grey who protected me.”
Nia replied to Anda somewhat bashfully. Anda was surprised after hearing this.
“Ah? Really?”
“Yes, the Wind Eagle Griffon we exterminated this time, somehow, was blind and became very berserk. If Grey hadn’t shot that incredibly skillful arrow to block the Wind Eagle Griffon’s final attack, I’m afraid we would have looked even worse when we returned.”
“Hey? Tell me the details!”
Anda and Nia jointly carried Grey into the rest room. Afterwards, Anda grabbed Nia’s hand and began to inquire about the Wind Eagle Griffon.
“You mean the Wind Eagle Griffon was already blind when you got there?”
“Yes, and it became very berserk. Did someone fail an extermination attempt beforehand?”
“That shouldn’t be the case. Exterminations of Wind Eagle Griffons require Guild Master approval before proceeding. It’s been a long time since anyone accepted an S-rank Monster extermination commission. Logically, this shouldn’t happen. Miss Nia, could you describe the details of the extermination?”
Anda took out paper and pen; she intended to record this unusual incident and report it to Bal later to see what was going on.
After Nia had recounted all the details, Grey came out of the restroom. He supported himself against the wall and came to their side. Nia immediately went to support him.
“You haven’t rested yet, go back and lie down.”
“No, there’s an important point I need to tell Anda.”
Grey paused; he took a drink of water Anda offered before continuing.
“I think the Wind Eagle Griffon we exterminated was affected by a force of the same level or even stronger. And the influence wasn’t long, it might have even still been there before we arrived, but I couldn’t detect it.”
“Why do you say that?”
“Because when I first saw the Wind Eagle Griffon, its eyes were still bleeding. Its tail feathers were also very messy, as if it had just fought something.”
“I understand, I’ll report it immediately.”
Anda picked up the completed record and walked into the Guild Master’s office.
“Miss Selena, there’s something I need to report.”
Anda approached Selena. Selena was working on documents with Ken; the two sat together in perfect cooperation. When they heard Anda’s voice, Ken looked up and gestured for her to continue.
“This is an unusual incident discovered by Mr. Grey and Miss Nia during the Wind Eagle Griffon extermination. Please take a look.”
Ken took the report. After reading it once, his expression became serious. Seeing Ken pause, Selena waited for him to finish reading before taking the report and reading it herself.
“Really?”
Selena exclaimed after reading the report.
“Miss Nia and Mr. Grey are still here. Should I call them over?”
“Please, Anda. Also, suspend the issuance of S-rank Monster extermination commissions for the time being, and also suspend those for the more powerful A-rank Monsters.”
“Understood.”
Anda left the office. After she and Nia helped Grey into the office, she returned to the counter to begin the tasks Selena had assigned.
“Grey, how did you get beaten up like this?”
Seeing that Grey was not walking steadily, Selena quickly had Grey lie down on the sofa and asked Ken to examine and treat him.
Grey was also quite helpless; he was unharmed, but his magic consumption was too great, and his physical strength was almost depleted, causing him to become weak. As a result, everyone who knew him thought he was injured.
“He’s fine, just excessive magic and physical strength consumption; he wasn’t actually injured.”
Ken’s words reassured Selena. Selena sat opposite Grey; she held Anda’s report and began questioning Grey and Nia.
“Anda has already given me your report on the Wind Eagle Griffon extermination, but I still have some questions. Could you tell me the details?”
Grey nodded; he and Nia displayed the performance skills of a cross-talk act at the New Year, vividly recounting their joint extermination of the Wind Eagle Griffon.
“Mr. Grey, I didn’t expect you to have this skill!”
Ken came to Grey’s side and patted him on the shoulder.
“Speaking of which, where did you get that Mana Perception Enhancement Potion?”
“Randa from the Alchemist Guild. Have you heard of her?”
“Randa… Alchemist Guild…”
Hearing Green say this, Selena began to ponder; she felt she had heard this name before, but couldn’t quite remember where.
“Is the bottle still there?”
Seeing Selena in thought, Ken asked Grey if he still had the bottle. Grey nodded; he took out an empty, exquisite medicine bottle from his waist pouch and handed it to Ken.
“Well, just the bottle itself is high-end. It would be nice if the potion were still inside.”
“Minor problem, we’ll have Phia check the residual potion components on the bottle wall when she returns.”
Nia took the bottle and put it in her bag.
“Anything else to ask? If not, I’ll take Grey home.”
“Nothing else, you two go home.”
Nia carried Grey out of the office. After receiving the bounty from Anda, she and Grey went home together.
“Phew, finally home.”
Nia laid Grey on the sofa; after a while, she also felt sleepy, and they both fell asleep on the sofa.
Xiaoyue returned from the backyard after collecting clothes and found them asleep on the sofa. She covered them with blankets and continued with her work.
In the late afternoon, Bal and Phia returned home with Selena and Ken. Bal had stopped by the office after returning from the ski resort; he had heard Selena and Ken recount Grey and Nia’s Wind Eagle Griffon extermination.
“Father!”
Philia, already taken home by Xiaoyue, rushed into Bal’s arms upon seeing him.
“Father, Uncle Grey and Sister Nia are asleep on the sofa. What happened to them?”
“Nothing, they did a good deed, they’re just a little tired. Was Philia a good girl at school today?”
“Philia has always been good.”
Bal hooked Philia’s nose with his index finger; then he carried Philia to Grey and Nia’s side.
“Grey, Nia. Wake up, it’s dinner time.”
Bal nudged them, trying to wake them up.
“Dinner? Where’s the dinner?!”
Nia woke up first, sitting up and looking around.
“Brother, where’s the dinner?”
Nia looked at Bal in confusion.
“Do I look like dinner?”
“No, you look inedible, like an Old Fogey, smelly and hard.”
Hearing Nia call him that, Bal was heartbroken. A man’s blushing speaks volumes. He said nothing, yet seemed to say everything. Selena and Phia both covered their mouths, stifling laughter. For a moment, the living room was filled with joyful air.
“Old Fogey? What Old Fogey?”
Grey woke up at this point; he only heard Nia say “Old Fogey”, and sat up groggily.
“Pfft…hahahaha!”
Everyone except Bal and Philia couldn’t help but burst into laughter. It left the newly awakened Grey quite puzzled. Why didn’t Philia laugh? Answer: She didn’t understand, otherwise she would have laughed too.
After the commotion, Bal’s House finally began its wonderful dinner time. Xiaoyue specially made many dishes that helped with physical recovery, and Nia kept adding food to Grey’s plate.
“Isn’t that a bit much?”
“Just eat it.”
Grey was helpless; it was Xiaoyue and Nia’s kindness, so he could only grit his teeth and finish it.
After dinner, Bal asked Xiaoyue to take Philia to bathe; he called everyone to the study to discuss the Wind Eagle Griffon matter.
