Ch 243: It’s Like Clockwork: There’s Always Something Unexpected When Adults Are Lecturing
Since Bal and Phia brought Annie’s egg home, Philia has stayed by it constantly when not at school.
“Xiao Jiu, Xiao Jiu, grow up quickly! Philia will give you lots of delicious food.”
Bal watched Philia’s dedication to the egg. He was a little worried that it might affect her grades. Although Bal wasn’t a parent who particularly emphasized children’s grades, it would be a shame to waste Philia’s excellent talent.
“Philia, have you finished your task?”
“Yes, I finished my task during breaks at school.”
“Oh… then that’s fine.”
Bal hadn’t expected that Philia would become so diligent because of this egg.
“Father, can you give Philia some biscuits?”
“Hmm? Are you hungry?”
“No, Philia wants to use the scent of the biscuits to attract Xiao Jiu out of the egg.”
Bal smiled and ruffled Philia’s head.
“Silly child, how could the egg smell the scent from outside?”
“But I could when I was inside the egg.”
Philia tilted her head, looking at Bal with confusion in her eyes. Bal then remembered that his daughter hatched from an egg as a Dragonkin.
“But will Xiao Jiu like biscuits?”
“Oh, right! Then Father, can you give Philia some roast meat?”
“Okay, wait.”
“Father is the best!”
Philia hugged Bal, then kissed his face. Bal was lost in Philia’s sweet offensive.
“Father will go and get Philia roast meat right away!”
Bal rushed into the kitchen, startling Xiaoyue, who was cleaning.
“Master, what’s wrong?”
“Philia wants roast meat, I’m making it for her now.”
“Oh… okay, I understand. Do you need my help?”
“No, you do your thing, don’t worry about me.”
“Okay.”
Xiaoyue left the kitchen, thinking that silliness is contagious.
After the meat was cooked, Bal brought it to Philia.
“Here, Philia’s roast meat is ready.”
“It smells so good!”
Philia sniffed it, her mouth watering.
“Xiao Jiu, Xiao Jiu, come out and try Father’s roast meat, it’s delicious!”
Philia placed the plate next to the Glass Dome. She carefully opened a small gap and blew on the roast meat, trying to blow the scent inside.
Bal watched Philia struggle. He directly lifted the Glass Dome to let her continue. At this time, Phia yawned as she came downstairs, and seeing Bal and Philia’s actions, Phia was instantly wide awake.
“What are you guys doing?”
“Philia wants Xiao Jiu to come out quickly.”
Phia glanced at Philia. Children say whatever is on their minds. Then she looked at Bal.
“And you? You wouldn’t be thinking the same, would you?”
“Not really.”
Phia breathed a sigh of relief, but almost choked when she heard the rest of Bal’s sentence.
“I just thought Philia’s previous method was too slow, so I’m helping her.”
Phia’s mind was buzzing. After a moment of struggling to comprehend, her CPU almost overloaded, Phia knelt down and gently stroked Philia’s head.
“Philia, go practice swordsmanship in the Backyard for a while.”
“Okay.”
After seeing Philia off, Phia pulled Bal’s ears and took him to the sofa.
“Tell me, why don’t you teach Philia better things? It’s fine if she doesn’t understand as a child, but you, an adult, are also clueless?!”
“But Philia hugged me and kissed me.”
Bal felt wronged. He thought no one could resist Philia’s advances.
“Sometimes I really wonder if letting you take care of the children will cause trouble.”
Phia rubbed her forehead; she looked a little headache-y.
“But when I took care of Philia before, it was fine, wasn’t it?”
“Um… then why have you regressed now?”
“Because Philia hugged and kissed me, I really couldn’t resist!”
“……Sigh, foolish Father, sigh.”
Phia sighed helplessly. After a while, she went to the Backyard to explain about the egg to Philia.
“Philia, come here for a moment.”
Philia was practicing swordsmanship. Hearing Phia calling her, she immediately ran over.
“Mother, what’s wrong?”
“I want to talk to you about something.”
“What is it?”
“Mother wants to talk to you about Xiao Jiu.”
“Mother doesn’t like Xiao Jiu?”
“No, no, no. Mother just wants to say that if you’re too focused on Xiao Jiu, you might neglect other things, like Magic, or Swordsmanship. Of course, Mother isn’t asking you to ignore Xiao Jiu, but everything should have a limit, don’t cross the line…”
Just as Phia was giving a long lecture, Bal shouted from the Backyard entrance.
“Philia, Xiao Jiu hatched!”
“Ah, coming!”
Philia responded to Bal, then said to Phia.
“Mother, Philia will go see Xiao Jiu hatch.”
“……Go ahead.”
Philia happily ran into the house, calling Xiao Jiu as she ran.
In the Living Room, Bal was guarding the Glass Dome. There was a small crack in the egg. The egg had been kept in this incubator all along, and generally no one could touch it, so this crack should be the baby hatching.
“Xiao Jiu!”
As soon as Philia entered, she ran to the Glass Dome and pressed her face against it to observe Xiao Jiu hatching.
“So this is how Philia came out of the shell?”
Watching the crack in the eggshell grow longer and wider, Philia couldn’t help but sigh.
Phia then entered the Room. She also wanted to see the Large Griffon Cub hatch, mainly because she had never seen it before.
The three of them gathered around the incubator, time passed slowly, and the eggshell finally started to shake, signaling that Xiao Jiu, whom Philia had been talking about every day, was ready to appear before everyone.
“I’m back, huh? What are you guys looking at?”
Nia returned home and saw the three of them gathered together looking at something.
“Don’t make a noise, come and see.”
“What is it, let me see.”
Nia went to the incubator and saw that the eggshell had a crack.
“Oh? Is Philia’s Xiao Jiu about to be born?”
“Yes, Philia’s Xiao Jiu is coming out!”
Everyone looked at Xiao Jiu, holding their breath. Finally, a Large Griffon Cub’s head poked out of the shell.
“It’s out! Look, Philia’s Xiao Jiu is out!”
Philia excitedly jumped up. Bal moved the Glass Dome, and Philia reached out to touch the egg.
“Xiao Jiu, Xiao Jiu, from today on, you are my Xiao Jiu.”
The Large Griffon Cub seemed to understand Philia’s words; it rubbed against Philia’s face. Philia peeled away the eggshell, and Xiao Jiu finally revealed its figure. It was a small Great Gryphon with silvery-white fur.
“Wow, it’s a rare breed of Great Gryphon.”
Nia looked at Xiao Jiu’s silvery-white appearance and exclaimed.
Phia watched Xiao Jiu hatch; she didn’t say much, just told Philia to take good care of it.
“Philia will definitely take good care of Xiao Jiu, don’t worry, Mother.”
