Ch 268: Vengeance Achieved, Yet All She Felt Was Emptiness
Remilia lunged with her first strike, her sword tip aimed at Raymond’s vital point. Although Raymond couldn’t defeat Bal, relying on the martial prowess forged from years of bloody rule in prison, Raymond easily blocked Remilia’s first attack.
“Humph, I thought you were more capable. It’s nothing special.”
Raymond coldly snorted. He didn’t give Remilia a chance to continue her attack, raising his long sword and beginning to swing. His sword was so fast it seemed to leave afterimages; Remilia struggled to defend against Raymond’s attack.
“Don’t underestimate me, Raymond!”
Remilia seized a tiny opening in Raymond’s movements—a pause that occurred every few swings. After deflecting Raymond’s attack with her sword, she used a short sword hidden beneath her skirt to stab at Raymond’s ribs.
“Naive!”
Raymond didn’t panic; he had deliberately shown the opening to Remilia. He blocked Remilia’s short sword with his bracer, briefly powering up before unleashing a punch. Remilia immediately dodged backward, but she was a moment too slow, and Raymond’s fist still impacted her.
“Ugh…”
“Your pathetic state finally reminds me. You’re the daughter of the couple framed by that fat pig, Okto. Those were fun times, your parents’ slaughter was quite entertaining.”
Hearing Raymond’s provocative words, Remilia charged.
“Shut up!”
She continuously attacked Raymond, but her rage and earlier injuries caused her swordsmanship to falter. Raymond deflected Remilia’s flawed thrust with his long sword, followed by a side kick that sent Remilia flying.
“Ugh!”
“With this level of skill, you want to kill me? What a joke! You’re just as incompetent as your father!”
Remilia used her sword to support herself as she slowly rose, shouting at Raymond.
“Don’t…insult my…parents!”
Remilia suddenly burst forth with astonishing strength, charging at Raymond with her sword raised again. This time, she didn’t use a thrust, but a downward slash.
“Useless!”
Raymond’s long sword again deflected Remilia’s blade with powerful force, sending Remilia’s sword flying into the air. Raymond sneered, intending to repeat his tactic and strike Remilia with his fist.
“Not learning…ha!”
Raymond pursued with a fist as before, but this time Remilia didn’t give him the opportunity. She ducked under Raymond’s fist aimed at her abdomen, then used her hands to support herself, wrapping her legs around Raymond’s arms. Before Raymond could react, she punched him in the nose.
“Raymond!”
Remilia shouted Raymond’s name, preparing to continue her attack, but unexpectedly, Raymond had a second stage.
“Hee hee hahahaha! You’re the first prisoner to force me to unleash my power. Now, you’re left only with death.”
Raymond’s armor began to shatter and fall to the ground. In moments, a muscular man with scars across his upper body charged at Remilia. Remilia quickly dodged, but Raymond’s speed and strength were such that the mere force of his punch created numerous small wounds on Remilia’s body.
“Ugh! So fast!”
“You can’t escape!”
Remilia ran around the arena. Raymond controlled his speed, maintaining a sword’s length from Remilia. He planned to kill her after she was exhausted—a hunting quirk unique to Raymond.
Phia watched the battle below and began to worry about Remilia. As she reached out to use magic, Bal stopped her.
“Why?”
“She will win.”
“But…”
“Trust me, I’ve already told her the key to victory.”
Phia lowered her hand. She snapped her fingers, and the fully armed Holy Knights behind them instantly scattered.
“What if she didn’t understand?”
“Then it’s my turn to act. I won’t let Remilia die.”
“Humph, why don’t you show this much concern for me?”
“Because I know you’re very strong.”
Bal pinched Phia’s puffed-up cheek and continued watching the duel below.
“What’s wrong? Only running? This won’t kill me.”
“Shut up!”
Remilia dodged Raymond’s long sword thrust from behind, but as soon as she dodged, she was kicked into the wall by the accelerating Raymond.
“Cough…”
The severely impacted Remilia sat on the ground, coughing up blood. After wiping the blood from her lips, she stared intently at Raymond slowly approaching her, and at the ceiling.
“So that’s what it meant.”
Remilia laughed self-deprecatingly. She threw her short sword at Raymond; Raymond deflected it. Then Remilia slowly rose, using all her strength to swing her final blow. The long sword sliced upward, but missed Raymond. Raymond watched the flying sword, grabbed Remilia’s head, and lifted her.
“Is that all? I think you should reunite with your parents below.”
“Humph.”
Seeing the upturn of Remilia’s lips, Raymond was puzzled.
“What are you laughing at?”
“Because someone’s accompanying me on the road to the underworld.”
“What?”
Remilia struggled to extend her right hand. She snapped her fingers. The fighting arena’s ceiling exploded—Remilia had detonated the long sword she had thrown.
“You damned…”
Watching the ceiling collapse, Raymond roared, preparing to crush Remilia’s head, but the next instant, a black figure flashed past him. Raymond’s wrist was completely severed—Bal’s handiwork.
“You’ve done well, Remilia.”
“Humph, humph.”
Remilia smiled at Bal, and Bal immediately took Remilia to Phia.
“She won. She needs healing.”
“Leave it to me.”
“Mm, I’ll handle the aftermath.”
When the last piece of rubble from the ceiling fell, the bloody ruler of Kurodo Prison was severely wounded. Bal went to Raymond’s side, breaking through the bricks pressing down on him and looking down at Raymond.
“You were quite arrogant just now. Why aren’t you so cocky now?”
“You…”
Seeing that Raymond could barely speak, Bal turned to Phia.
“Keep him barely alive.”
“Understood!”
Phia didn’t look up; a green glowing magic formation appeared on the ground beneath Raymond, providing him with barely enough life force to remain alive.
“I have a question.”
“What…”
“Did you receive a group of captives these past few days?”
“Cough…yes…”
“Where are those people? I’m taking them back.”
“Heh…cough…hehehe…”
“What are you laughing at?”
“You’re too late…that bastard Erdos…has already taken the captives…away…”
“What did you say?!”
Bal crouched down and grabbed Raymond’s hair.
“Where were those people taken?”
“I…I don’t know…”
“…”
Bal silently walked to Phia’s side; Remilia had almost fully recovered.
“Go kill him.”
“Mm.”
Remilia walked behind Bal. Phia looked at Bal, feeling something was wrong.
“What about the children?”
“They were transferred.”
“Where?”
“He said he doesn’t know.”
“Then where should we look?”
“Let’s go to the Warden’s office first. There should be documents regarding prisoner transfers.”
“Okay.”
While Bal and Phia were still talking, Remilia went to Raymond’s side.
“You really got what you deserved, Raymond.”
“Humph…”
“Give my regards to my parents.”
Remilia didn’t say much more. She used the short sword she picked up from the ground to stab Raymond in the left chest; Phia also dispelled the magic formation at this time. Raymond died in agony.
“I finally avenged you, Father, Mother…”
Remilia looked up at the shattered ceiling. Sunlight streamed through the hole, covering her and Raymond’s bodies. The strong Remilia finally cried when her revenge was complete. She didn’t cry out loud, only tears flowed down her cheeks.
“How is it? The feeling of revenge.”
Bal clenched his fist and walked to Remilia’s side.
“I feel a certain emptiness in my heart. Why?”
“Because revenge is a task that must be completed, but no one can achieve spiritual satisfaction through it.”
“Then what should I do?”
“Okto, don’t you want to kill him?”
“I do, but what will I do after I kill him?”
“Of course, return to Guangyue Town and live your life.”
“That’s right…Thank you.”
“You’re welcome. If you really want to thank me, remember to often come to the Guild to accept missions.”
“Mm…”
