Ch 36: Barr’s Babysitting Mission （part 1）

Two people, filled with joy at obtaining new weapons, walked to the Adventurer’s Guild, their faces beaming with satisfied smiles.

“Good morning, Anda!”

Bal pushed open the Gate, and Phia entered the Guild to greet Anda. After handling Mrs. Zeril’s Commission, they had no immediate plans to take on more Commissions, but today was different; armed with their new weapons, the two wanted to take on a few Extermination Commissions to test them out.

“Ah, Miss Fei’er and Mr. Buck, good morning.”

Anda, seeing that the visitors were the new Ace Adventurers in town, her worried expression instantly vanished.

“What’s wrong? You didn’t look too good just now. Did you encounter something troublesome?”

Bal keenly noticed the change in Anda’s expression and asked.

“There is indeed a slightly troublesome matter, but I think you two should be able to help.”

“What is it?”

“The town’s Dairy Products suddenly ran out today. Did you know about this?”

“Ah! I said why there was no Butter this morning, so it was a shortage. What’s the reason?”

“You said Miss Shelly posted a Commission yesterday, but we’re not here to accept that Commission today. Anda, hasn’t someone already taken this Mission?”

Anda chuckled dryly, agreeing with Bal’s guess. After a pause, she continued.

“A team of New Recruits accepted Miss Shelly’s Commission. They’ve been formed for a month now. After completing Extermination of low-level Monsters and various simple Commissions, they told me they wanted to try a slightly more difficult Mission. At this time, Miss Shelly mentioned her Ranch’s problems, so the Squad immediately accepted it. I was quite worried about them because, although they have a certain level of strength, this is their first investigative Commission, and I have a bad feeling; I feel something will happen to Miss Shelly’s Ranch. After hearing Anda’s explanation, the two said they needed to discuss it and went to a corner to whisper.

“I want to help Miss Shelly. I don’t want to live without Butter.”

“We should probably accept it, but this is indeed an opportunity.”

After their conversation, Phia returned to the counter, looking at Anda with determination in her eyes.

Bal interrupted Anda regarding the Reward. He wasn’t short of Money; on the contrary, he needed more Money for his Wedding. However, Anda had been kind to them, and he didn’t want to cause her any trouble. Between feelings and Money, Bal valued feelings more.

“Thank you so much, Mr. Buck! Miss Shelly’s Ranch is southwest of town. You can find it by following the driveway.”

“Okay, we’ll go right away.”

Having said that, the two left the Adventurer’s Guild. Inside the Guild, Anda breathed a sigh of relief and sat down behind the counter.

“Please come back safely, Randall. Mr. Buck, I entrust them to you.”

Phia first used Teleportation Magic to send the two back to their Room. After preparing the necessary items, Phia called to the Fairy Bird on its Perch.

“Moony, Snowdrift, you come too.”

“Chirp! Chirp chirp!”

Seeing Phia’s invitation, the two Fairy Birds immediately flew onto the two people, as days of staying home had made them want to go out.

“Let’s go!”

With Phia’s order, a White Light engulfed them, and they appeared near the Gate south of the town. After exchanging pleasantries with the Gatekeeper, Bal and Phia left the Gate.

“Snowdrift, you fly up there and help me see if there’s a driveway leading southwest.”

“Chirp!”

Snowdrift, after receiving the task and grabbing an eyeball-shaped object with its feet, flew off. Seeing Snowdrift fly away, Phia closed her eyes, using Magic to connect her vision to the eyeball Snowdrift was holding. After a while, both Snowdrift and Phia found the driveway to the Ranch, so Snowdrift flew back to where they were standing.

“Do we need to go to such trouble just to find a road?”

Bal was puzzled.

“What do you know? This is called maximizing efficiency. I’m not just looking for a road; I’m also using this Artificial Magic Eye to detect if there are any Magic residue along the way. If you hadn’t stopped me from flying, it would have been even faster. But luckily, there is indeed residual Magic on this road. Let’s go.”

Phia strode ahead, Bal following behind, pondering some things.

After walking for about twenty minutes, the two stopped on the driveway. Phia squatted in the middle of the driveway, forming a Magic Formation in her hand, and then used the Magic Formation to scan the road surface.

“Yes, there’s Magic left by Humans and the Demon Race, and the time the Magic was left is the same, which means this is the Squad of New Recruit Adventurers Anda asked me to help. Let’s continue.”

Bal paused to reflect. Seeing him distracted, Phia approached him and put her arm around his waist. Bal came to his senses.

“What are you thinking about? So engrossed.”

“I don’t know if it’s my imagination, but I feel like things won’t be simple.”

“Really? As long as you’re here, I’m not afraid of where we go or what happens!”

Bal patted Phia’s head and stopped thinking for the time being.

The two followed the driveway to Miss Shelly’s Ranch. Before them was a Ranch with four particularly large single-story houses. The pasture could be seen through the gaps between the houses. The Ranch area was surrounded by a wooden fence.

At this time, a busty Demon Race Beauty with cow horns on her head passed by. Seeing the two standing at the entrance, she approached and asked.

“Excuse me, what are you doing here?”

Seeing the person asking, Bal stepped forward to explain his intentions.

“We’re here to find a Squad of Adventurers under a Commission. I’m Buck, and this is Fei’er. These are our Adventurer Cards.”

“Ah, I forgot to introduce myself. I’m Shelly. The Adventurers you’re looking for are on my Ranch. Should I go call them over?”

“That would be a great help.”

Shelly opened the door and let the two enter. As soon as they entered the Ranch, Bal sensed an unusual atmosphere. Shelly took them to a Wooden House, which looked like her residence, then went out.

“Phia, do you sense anything wrong?”

“Hmm? What’s wrong?”

“Nothing, it must be my imagination.”

After more than ten minutes, Shelly returned with a group of people.

Before them was a Squad of four. The leading male Human wore leather Armor, had a Long Sword at his waist, and a one-handed round Shield on his back. He looked like the Captain of the Squad. Behind him was a tall male Demon with a Battleaxe on his back and wearing red clothes. Although tall, his face looked rather youthful; he should be a Child who had only recently come of age. Behind them stood two Women. One was a Dog-eared Demon Woman wearing a white robe with a Short Staff at her waist; she seemed to be a Healer. The other was a blonde Human Woman wearing a black coat and a wizard’s hat, with a Staff inlaid with Jewels on her back.

The leading male approached Bal, sized him up, and spoke.

“Hello, I’m Randall, the Captain of this Squad. What can I do for you?”

“I’m Buck, a Swordsman, and this is Phia, she’s an Archmage. We’re here to assist you under the Commission of Miss Anda.”

After introducing himself and Phia, Buck explained his purpose.

Hearing Buck’s purpose, a hint of displeasure crossed Randall’s face. He quickly concealed it and began to introduce his Team Members.

“So you were commissioned by Miss Anda. Please take care of us. Let me introduce my Team Members. This very tall Warrior is Reynard.”

“Hello! I’m Reynard. I’m very strong, just say something if you need me to use my strength.”

Reynard scratched his head, greeted the two with a hearty smile.

After Reynard finished greeting, he stepped back. Randall continued to introduce the others.

“This girl in the white robe is our Squad’s Healer. Her name is Sera.”

“Y-you… hello, I’m Sera.”

The Healer named Sera greeted them shyly and immediately returned behind Reynard.

“Please excuse her, Sera is rather shy. This girl in the black coat is the Magician Katerina.”

“Hello, I’m Katerina. Although I’m still a Magician, I will soon become a Grand Archmage.”

Katerina seemed rather arrogant.

“Finally, let me introduce myself again. I’m Randall, a Swordsman. My Dream is to make my Squad the Ace Adventurer Squad of Guangyue Town!”
