Ch 400: Sometimes Overtime Has Its Benefits, Like Saving Lives
A good day is always accompanied by a good mood. Bal’s mood was so-so today because Selena dragged him to work in the morning, and the shift didn’t end until 10 PM. That’s not all; due to the large amount of remaining work, Selena wants Bal to continue working overtime tomorrow.
Back home, thankfully, Philia wasn’t asleep yet.
“Philia, oh, my Philia, come quickly and let Daddy hug you.”
Bal immediately hugged Philia, who was stroking Xiao Jiu’s fur on the sofa, completely ignoring Xiao Jiu’s protest.
“Mmm, Philia smells good. Did you take a bath?”
“Mm!”
Philia was also used to Bal’s sudden hugs. She actually clung to Bal quite a bit; as long as Bal didn’t go too far, Philia would feel that it was a manifestation of Bal’s love for her.
Only Xiao Jiu wasn’t happy. It had finally been bathed thoroughly by Xiaoyue. After finally drying its feathers, it was lying on Philia’s lap enjoying its little owner’s grooming time when suddenly a strange uncle rushed over, squeezed it away, and hugged its little owner. Who was upset? So Xiao Jiu used its fleshy legs to press against Bal’s legs in protest. Bal ignored Xiao Jiu; he chose to continue replenishing his much-needed good daughter energy. Xiao Jiu frowned; it decided to make trouble.
“Daddy has to go to work tomorrow too?”
Philia tilted her head and looked at Bal, and Bal nodded.
“Yeah, that’s Daddy’s main job.”
“Then Daddy has to work hard.”
“Oh, what a beautiful sound! If I could record it and play it on repeat, even working for a week wouldn’t tire me out.”
“Oh? Really? I happen to have a recording magic item on hand. Why don’t you just stay at the Guild for a week?”
Selena finished washing up and walked into the living room. As soon as she came out, she heard Bal’s rambling. But if you ask Selena whether she has this magic item, the answer is no. She didn’t have time to mess with that kind of thing; she’d rather have a cup of tea and some tea and snacks to relax.
“I was joking. Don’t actually take it out.”
Bal hugged Philia and moved away from Selena. The father and daughter went to sit by Phia, moving Xiao Jiu, who was protesting, along with them.
“Why did you squeeze over here?”
Phia looked up at Bal, her face covered in white almost scared Bal to death.
“Whoa, ghost!”
Bal hugged Philia and was about to go upstairs to hide when Phia took off her face mask.
“What ghost? I’m applying a face mask, you silly dog. Come back and sit down with Philia.”
“Oh, okay.”
Bal returned to Phia’s side. He looked at the face mask Phia had placed on the plate, then at Phia’s face.
“Are you really not some kind of monster that peels people’s faces?”
“I think you need a beating. Come here, put Philia down, and I’ll fix your brain.”
Phia stood up. Although she was much shorter than Bal, her momentum was sufficient. Bal naturally didn’t dare; he used Philia as a shield.
“I’m not going over there. I still need to hug Philia.”
“Forget it, you’ve been acting strange for more than a day or two.”
Phia sat back down on the sofa. She hugged Xiao Jiu, which was sulking and protesting beside Bal.
“Sometimes, pets are much more well-behaved than people, aren’t they, Xiao Jiu?”
Xiao Jiu nodded. It lay in Phia’s arms, enjoying Phia’s grooming service.
“Where’s Grey?”
“Why are you looking for him?”
“I haven’t seen him all day. Has Nia broken him?”
Just as Bal was worried about Grey, Grey yawned and walked down from upstairs.
“Bal, pour me a glass of water.”
“Oh.”
Bal poured a glass of water for Grey, and Grey took the water cup and took a sip.
“Whew, I’m awake.”
“Are you alright?”
Bal asked Grey with some concern, and Grey shook his head.
“I’m fine. I just slept well.”
“?”
Seeing the question mark on Bal’s face, Grey didn’t explain. He gave Bal the monster distribution map he had updated that morning.
“What’s this?”
“The monster distribution map I updated this morning. The forest has been a little chaotic lately. Take this map and modify the map the Guild issued, so the adventurers will be more careful.”
“Got it.”
Bal put Philia beside him. He began to look at the map; the distribution information on it made Bal frown.
“Tsk… Selena, I have to go to the forest tomorrow morning. Some troublesome monsters have gotten into places they shouldn’t be.”
“Okay, remember to come back to work in the afternoon. Don’t even think about running away. Phia, keep an eye on him.”
“Understood.”
“Wow, Wife, whose side are you on?”
“You’ve been lazy for so long; it’s time to get some exercise. Tomorrow, together, I’ll accompany you.”
“That’s good then.”
After a brief chat, Bal and Phia carried Philia back to her room. After putting Philia to sleep, the two of them went to bed.
The next morning, Bal was once again dragged out of bed, but this time it was Phia.
“Get up, Lazy Dog.”
“Mmm, I know.”
Bal rubbed his eyes and then stood up to change his clothes. After breakfast, he and Phia went deep into the forest, handling things from there all the way to the edge of the town. Although the distance was far, with Grey’s map, it was relatively simple.
After hunting a few Fiery Eyed Cobras that were stirred up by Nia’s commotion yesterday, he encountered Akxiya and her group. After giving Levi instructions, Bal continued to clean up the monsters with Phia.
At noon, after sending Bal back to the Guild, Phia went home to catch up on sleep. Bal stayed at the Guild to continue working.
At around 6 PM, the usual work off time arrived. Knowing that Anda had a date with Randall today, Selena wasn’t some evil capitalist; she directly let Anda off work. Anyway, under normal circumstances, there weren’t many people coming to the Guild to take missions at this time. With herself, Ken, and Bal staying, there shouldn’t be any problems. If it came down to it, there was also Nirvana, the bartender Bal brought in, outside. That guy, although he looks fierce, is actually a good person.
Not long after Anda left work, Hien came to the Guild asking for help. Fortunately, Bal had been working overtime recently; otherwise, things would have gotten really bad.
Nirvana saw Hien the moment he entered and knew something was wrong. He poured a free glass of water next to Hien and then went into the office.
“Bal, someone needs help, it’s urgent.”
“Right away!”
Bal immediately took Selena and Ken to the hall. After hearing Hien’s ordeal, Bal picked up his short sword, returned to the office, and contacted Phia.
“Phia, bring Grey and Nia to the Guild. We need to go out to save people, quickly.”
“Okay, right away.”
Phia at home immediately packed up, called Nia and Grey, and then directly used the conveyor belt to take them to the vicinity of the Guild.
“Rescue mission, two critically injured, two of unknown condition, this location, quickly.”
Bal pointed to the map for Phia to see. Phia nodded after looking at it. After leaving the Guild, they went straight into a nearby alley and teleported to near the Razorback Bear’s lair.
