Ch 94: Happy New Year!
After lunch, Bal and Phia remembered they still had unfinished business: delivering New Year’s cards.
“We wasted time this morning, it’ll be tiring to finish now.”
Bal looked at the New Year’s cards in front of him, somewhat regretting writing so many. Phia glanced at them, speechless.
“Why are you even sending New Year’s cards to the vendors you met while buying vegetables? I don’t remember writing this many.”
“Huh? Did I thank them?”
Bal picked up the card Phia mentioned, looking at it from every angle, finding it unfamiliar.
“This doesn’t seem to be my handwriting, nor does it look like yours. Who wrote this?”
While Bal was still puzzled, the Maid Sisters walked into the study.
“Huh? Master and Mistress, why are you holding the New Year’s cards we wrote?”
“Ah? These are yours?”
Xiaoyue nodded and began to explain.
“I often buy vegetables from this person’s stall, and after buying a lot, we got to know him, so we definitely need to send him one.”
After the two of them explained the origin of many of the cards, Bal and Phia finally confirmed that this was indeed something the two sisters could do.
“You wrote so many, wasn’t it troublesome to deliver them?”
“It was on the way. Oh, right. Master and Mistress’s New Year’s cards are in the second drawer from the bottom on the left side of the desk.”
Phia opened the drawer Xiaoguang mentioned; their New Year’s cards were all there.
“Hmm, these are the ones we wrote. Do you want to come with us to deliver the cards?”
After Bal counted the cards and found no problems, he looked up at the two maid sisters.
“No, some of the places Master and Mistress are going to are too far away, it’s not on our way, we can deliver them tomorrow when we continue our work after resting today.”
“Then you should rest well. Tell Nia to cook dinner tonight; I made breakfast and lunch, it’s her turn.”
Looking at Bal, who was a little stingy, the Maid Sisters nodded in understanding and left the study. They wiped their sweat and went to Nia’s room.
“Will you come with me? My dear wife.”
“Alright, my dear husband.”
Bal offered his arm, and Phia took it, and the two walked out of the house together.
First stop, Gu’er’s Inn.
Gu’er’s home is the inn, but Gu’er looked busy today.
“Good afternoon, Sister Gu’er. Happy New Year!”
Phia greeted the busy Gu’er. Hearing the familiar voice, Gu’er immediately stopped what she was doing.
“It’s Fei’er and Bal, Happy New Year. Are you here to drink?”
“No, we’re here to deliver New Year’s cards. Here you are, you’re the first one, oh.”
Gu’er took the card, glanced at the content, and then smiled gently.
“Such a heartfelt card, thank you.”
“You’re welcome, you’re welcome. We owe you a lot for your care. Speaking of which, what were you doing just now? You seemed busy.”
Gu’er glanced at the rag in her hand and explained to Bal with a smile.
“It’s the New Year, I have to clean up properly. I was just doing a big cleaning, oh.”
“I understand, then we won’t disturb you. When you have time, we’ll come to eat and drink here.”
“Okay, remember to bring Moony and Snowdrift.”
After saying goodbye to Gu’er, Bal and Phia came to their next destination, Kofit’s Blacksmith Shop. Kofit’s house and shop were also combined.
Bal pushed open the door with a “Closed for the Day” sign, tentatively asking inside.
“Is Grandpa Kofit here?”
There was no sound for a long time, it seemed Kofit had gone out. Bal could only place the card in the most visible place in the shop and left after closing the door.
Then Bal and Phia went to several familiar shops: Latina’s Clothing Store, the ski equipment shop, the magic item shop that Phia frequented, etc. Since they didn’t live in the shops, Bal and Phia slipped the cards through the door cracks, hoping they would see them when they opened the door.
Then Phia used Teleportation Magic to teleport herself and Bal to Shelly’s Ranch. Shelly was still taking care of the animals on the ranch; she warmly greeted the two after seeing them arrive.
“Happy New Year, Miss Shelly. This is a New Year’s card we wrote by hand, please accept it.”
Bal offered his congratulations and took out the New Year’s card for Shelly. After Shelly finished reading it, she responded to the two.
“Happy New Year, Mr. Buck, Miss Fei’er. I’ve received your kindness. Would you like to take some freshly made cheese and butter back? It’s delicious, oh.”
“Really?”
Upon hearing the mention of butter, Little Greedy Cat Phia’s eyes lit up. After obtaining Bal and Shelly’s consent, she took a piece of butter and cheese and wrapped it up.
After a brief chat, the two said goodbye to Shelly and used Teleportation Magic to go to Rea’s Farm.
“Is Mr. Rea here?”
Phia quietly asked as she entered the farm. After a while, Rea came out of the vegetable greenhouse carrying a basket of vegetables.
“Oh! It’s Mr. Buck and Miss Fei’er, Happy New Year! The choir last night was wonderful, oh!”
“Thank you, Happy New Year, Mr. Rea.”
Phia took out the New Year’s card prepared for Rea and handed it over. Rea was very happy after reading it.
“You two are thoughtful. I’ll give you this basket of vegetables, they’re fresh!”
Bal accepted the basket of vegetables, thanked him, exchanged pleasantries, and then left.
“Hmm, there are four more for the Randall Squad and one for Anda. Where should we go first?”
Phia looked at the remaining cards in her hand, her expression somewhat conflicted. Anda was their good friend and a future work partner. The Randall Squad were their disciples, and their relationship was equally good.
“Let’s give them to Randall first, then ask Randall about Anda’s residence.”
Bal offered his suggestion, and Phia nodded, clinging to Bal’s arm.
“I’ll listen to my Husband!”
Seeing his lovely wife acting so coquettish, Bal couldn’t help but rub her head. Phia purred comfortably after Bal’s touch.
After returning to town, Bal and Phia went to the Randall Squad’s house; they lived together. Bal knocked on the door, and a voice immediately came from inside.
“Coming, coming!”
The person opened the door, quite surprised. Bal and Phia were also surprised to see the person who opened the door.
“Anda?”
“Mr. Buck!”
“Why are you here?”
Bal and Anda simultaneously questioned. At this time, Randall came out from behind Anda.
“Oh! It’s Master and Mistress! Welcome, welcome, Happy New Year!”
“Oh oh, Happy New Year, Randall, Anda.”
“It’s too cold outside, come inside and talk.”
Randall invited Bal and Phia into the house to chat, and Anda closed the door after the two entered.
“Happy New Year, Randall, Anda. But why is Anda here?”
Phia asked the same question as Bal.
“Um… this…”
Seeing Anda stammering, Randall explained for her.
“Miss Anda came to visit us today and also gave us New Year’s cards. Look.”
Randall took out four New Year’s cards, one of which was pink, clearly written for Randall. Bal then took out five cards; he gave the four for the Randall Squad to Randall and gave the last one to Anda. Phia also looked at Anda with a mischievous smile, indicating that she knew Anda’s purpose for being there.
Randall was very happy to receive the New Year’s cards hand-written by Bal and Phia. He quickly went to the Team Members’ room, distributed the cards, and then brought the Team Members to see Bal and Phia.
“Happy New Year, Reynard, Katerina, Sera.”
“Happy New Year, Master Buck, Mistress Fei’er!”
After offering their blessings to the two, they returned to their rooms, and Bal and Phia also got up to leave. Before leaving, Phia pulled Anda aside to whisper.
“Go for it, Anda! I believe in you!”
“Thank you, Fei’er. I will try my best!”
After that, Bal and Phia left the Randall Squad’s house.
“Mission accomplished! But we seem to have forgotten something.”
Phia looked at Bal, smiling mysteriously. Bal was puzzled; what did they forget? He thought for a long time but couldn’t figure it out.
“What’s wrong?”
“Silly! Of course, it’s the congratulations. Happy New Year, my silly dog Husband! I want even more pampering this year, oh!”
Bal smiled relieved. She rubbed Phia’s head, then leaned down and whispered in Phia’s ear.
“Happy New Year, my lovely Wife. I’ll rely on you more this year, too.”
The two kissed lightly and then walked hand-in-hand back to their home.
