Ch 4: Returning to School
Xi Yang hurriedly ran home, and by the time he returned, it was past noon.
From afar, he saw that the gate to his house was wide open, and a sense of foreboding arose in his heart!
Xi Yang quickened his pace and entered, immediately spotting an old woman resting in the living room. An image of this person surfaced in his mind—Xi Yang’s grandmother. This old woman often took things from his home when Xi Yang wasn’t there, and every New Year, Xi Yang’s parents would argue because things were missing.
In Xi Yang’s memory, he didn’t have much affection for this grandmother. When he was in elementary school, he had stayed at his grandmother’s house, but he often didn’t have enough to eat, and he couldn’t even get the money to buy stationery for school, which often led to him being criticized by his teachers.
It was precisely because of this that Xi Yang’s mother couldn’t stand it any longer and, in a fit of anger, let Xi Yang live independently.
Looking at the old woman before him, Xi Yang still politely called out, “Grandmother!”
The old woman smiled when she saw Xi Yang return, but her gaze was fixed on the bag in Xi Yang’s hand. She asked with a concerned tone, “Oh, you’re back. Isn’t today Monday? Why aren’t you at school?”
Xi Yang glanced at her, quite dissatisfied. How could she just open his front door when he wasn’t home and then brazenly rest inside? Wasn’t that too inappropriate? Although she was an elder, even if she wanted to borrow something, she could just take it, but now she was directly staying at home to rest, which really made Xi Yang a little angry.
“Grandmother, I still have to go to school this afternoon. If you don’t have anything else, please go back first!” Xi Yang said with a frown.
Hearing this, Grandmother didn’t show any intention of leaving. Instead, her gaze remained fixed on the meat in Xi Yang’s hand.
Following her gaze, Xi Yang looked at the meat in his hand, sighed helplessly, walked straight into the kitchen, picked up a cleaver, chopped off half a kilogram of pork, put it in a bag, and brought it out.
Seeing the bag in Xi Yang’s hand, Grandmother immediately reached out to take it, a hint of embarrassment on her face, and said, “Oh dear, we’re all family, why be so polite?”
Xi Yang’s expression was displeased, and his tone became stiff, “It’s getting late, you should go back soon!”
Grandmother nodded with a smile, “Alright, alright! I haven’t gone home to cook yet!” With that, she turned and left Xi Yang’s house.
Watching her departing figure, Xi Yang secretly reminded himself, “She is an elder of this body, with the grace of giving birth! What does it matter to suffer a little loss or endure a little anger?”
So, he quickly turned and walked towards the kitchen, starting to busy himself.
He skillfully cut the meat he bought into small pieces, then slowly roasted them over the fire until they became delicious jerky. To preserve the food for a long time, he carefully sealed the jerky in bags. Eight kilograms of pork, deducting the half kilogram given to others, resulted in only a little over half a kilogram of jerky; the remaining one and a half kilograms of beef made just over 300 grams of jerky. Nevertheless, Xi Yang felt very satisfied. After all, this jerky was enough for him to sustain himself for a week.
With the improvement of his cultivation, Xi Yang found that his need for food had also greatly increased. This feeling was even more obvious when he broke through to Qi Refining Stage 4.
The biggest problem now was that the money in his pocket was too little, far from enough to meet the expenses required for his cultivation. It probably wouldn’t be easy to get more financial support from his grandfather. Because that Old Master managed money very strictly, and even if he really went to ask, he might not get it.
Thinking of this, he felt quite irritable. He wanted to earn money, but he was still a student, and according to the Dragon Kingdom Law, minors were not allowed to work. Even if he did, that little bit of wages probably wouldn’t be enough.
He, a dignified Immortal, never expected that returning to this Mortal Realm would be so frustrating.
In the afternoon, Xi Yang packed his things and returned to school in a cheerful mood. He walked with light steps into the classroom of Senior Year 2 Class 7. The classroom was so quiet that it felt a little oppressive, and Xi Yang sensed a tense atmosphere of study.
Almost no one in the classroom looked up at him. Everyone seemed to be immersed in their own world, burying themselves in their homework. Xi Yang couldn’t help but sigh: This kind of learning atmosphere is really excellent!
Xi Yang found his seat and sat down gently. At this moment, the female classmate next to him noticed his arrival, and a smile immediately appeared on her face. She lowered her voice and asked with concern, “Classmate Xi Yang, I heard you were injured. Is it serious?”
Hearing this, Xi Yang felt a warm current in his heart. He turned his head and carefully looked at this girl . Her eyebrows were as slender as willow leaves, slightly raised, with a bit of charming allure and a lively, lovely temperament.
Xi Yang tried hard to recall information about this girl , and finally remembered her name—Wang Xin . In his memory, Wang Xin was a hardworking student with very average grades. Usually, when she encountered difficult problems, she would often humbly ask Xi Yang for advice.
However, the original owner of this body didn’t have much affection for Wang Xin . The reason was that Wang Xin had once said in front of him that he was not solemn enough and too childish. From then on, Xi Yang no longer took the initiative to pay attention to her.
Of course, Wang Xin also realized that she had said the wrong thing, so she always tried to reconcile with Xi Yang. But Xi Yang, this guy , didn’t give her a chance and always dealt with her perfunctorily.
Hearing her concerned words, Xi Yang smiled slightly, “It’s nothing! Thanks for your concern!”
Wang Xin was quite happy to hear this. She continued, “The teacher has been very unhappy recently, punishing us to copy homework at every turn. We have to be more serious in class!”
Xi Yang nodded.
After a while, class began. The first class was geography, and the teacher was a thin Male Teacher, who began to review the content of the last class as soon as he started.
However, Xi Yang ignored his class and opened the geography textbook on his own. There was a map of this world on it, which instantly attracted his attention.
This planet is called Lan Chen Star, a blue planet. Six-tenths of the planet is land, and four-tenths is ocean. The land is divided into eight blocks, namely Qian, Kun, Gen, Zhen, Xun, Kan, Li, and Dui. The vast ocean separates these eight continents.
The entire star is divided into five major countries: Dragon Country, Tiger Country, Eagle Country, Feng Country, and Shenwu Nation. The most powerful country is Dragon Country.
Dragon Country occupies the Qian and Kun continents and is also the country to which Xi Yang currently belongs. He is located in Xizhao Town within Yuanshi County, Xihua City, Longxi Province of the Dragon Country.
After casually flipping through it, Xi Yang discovered that the county he was in was extraordinary. It was the largest Rough Stone Crystal Stone trading county in the Dragon Country, with GDP accounting for 50% of Xihua City. Xi Yang carefully read the introduction below about Rough Stones. Rough Stone transactions are divided into buying and gambling. Buying doesn’t need to be said much. Transactions are based on the quality of the opened Rough Stone. The second method is gambling, also called Stone Gambling. Generally, Rough Stones are purchased at a lower price, and if higher-quality Crystals are cut out, a large profit can be made.
Xi Yang looked at this page of content and was secretly overjoyed. He was worried about not having a way to make money, but now there was an opportunity.
Closing his eyes and recalling the original owner’s memory, he found that this Stone Gambling was not that easy. Although his original family was not wealthy, they had not fallen to such a dilapidated state. The cause was actually this Stone Gambling, which led to the family’s poverty, and the couple had to go out to work to maintain their livelihood.
