Ch 3: She’s Back
The Huo Family is a large family with a history spanning nearly a thousand years, having gone through several dynasties. Naturally, several affiliated families follow behind them, and the Xue Family is one of them. The heads of the Xue Family have always been the right-hand men of the Huo Family heads.
Similar to a master-servant relationship, but in reality, more like close friends.
“What is your relationship with Xue Weian?”
When Huo Yunjing was in charge of the family, Xue Weian was his assistant. Gu Qingyin often saw him and could be considered an acquaintance.
Xue Ning: “My father.”
Gu Qingyin suddenly understood, then lowered her head and began rummaging through her bag. It was her first time meeting a junior, so she had to give a greeting gift.
She took out a Yellow Talisman folded into the shape of a Bagua and handed it over, “A Peace Talisman, it’s not worth much, carry it with you for safety.”
Xue Ning was overwhelmed by the favor and respectfully accepted it with both hands, “Thank you, Madam.”
Gu Qingyin waved her hand, picked up her chopsticks, and continued eating.
Xue Ning happily put away the amulet, then turned his head to see Huo Xingye staring at him with deep eyes, looking unhappy.
Xue Ning was confused.
Huo Xingye turned his head and opened his mouth indifferently, “Leave after delivering the things. You don’t want to stay for dinner, do you?”
“No, I’ve already eaten.” Xue Ning didn’t understand why, but still smiled and said, “Then I’ll go back to the company first.”
After Xue Ning left, the more Huo Xingye thought about it, the more uncomfortable he felt. He held it in until Gu Qingyin finished eating, then he asked seemingly casually, “What did you give Xue Ning?”
“A Peace Talisman, didn’t I just say?” Gu Qingyin took a sip of tea and said casually, “I drew it a long time ago and it’s been in my bag. Today, it finally came in handy.”
Huo Xingye pursed his lips, wanting to ask, what about him? Even Xue Ning got a greeting gift, but he, the biological son, got nothing? But he couldn’t bring himself to ask, so he sullenly handed the file bag to Gu Qingyin.
“What you wanted.”
Gu Qingyin took it and looked at it. Inside were her identification documents, bank card, and a new mobile phone.
After all, twenty years had passed, and the things that needed to expire had expired.
“Are you full?” Gu Qingyin put the things back into her satchel, “I want to go to Antique Street. Give me a ride.”
Huo Xingye got up and left, his back carrying a bit of displeasure.
Gu Qingyin slightly curved her lips and slowly followed. As for the greeting gift, she certainly hadn’t forgotten, but she had just returned from a mission, and the good things she had on hand were almost used up. She had to restock before she could make them.
Gu Qingyin got out of the car at the street entrance and waved to Huo Xingye, “Go and be busy, don’t worry about me. I’ll take a taxi back later.”
Huo Xingye looked at her departing figure, and suddenly felt a burst of unease in his heart. Without thinking, he picked up his phone and called the bodyguard, “Send two people to follow Gu Qingyin and protect her safety.”
The bodyguard felt it was unnecessary. With Gu Qingyin’s skills, if something really happened, it was hard to say who would protect whom. But the boss had spoken, so he could only listen.
So, Gu Qingyin had only been shopping for a short while when two big guys in black suits caught up with her. After learning their intentions, Gu Qingyin didn’t object and let them follow her.
Twenty years later, Antique Street hadn’t changed much. At first glance, it was still the same things. Nine out of ten items were fakes. The only things that had changed were the owners and the store names.
Gu Qingyin quickly lost interest and walked straight to the depths of Antique Street, entering a shop called Zhēnpǐn (Zhēnpǐn).
As soon as she entered, a young man wearing a cyan long gown came out. He sized up Gu Qingyin a few times without leaving a trace, his expression thoughtful. Seeing her frown, he greeted her with a smile, “Is this guest not satisfied with the things in our store?”
“The quality of these things isn’t very good.” Gu Qingyin was a little disappointed, “Did the owner of this store change?”
“No change.” The young man’s expression was normal, “The world is not peaceful, so we don’t dare to put good things out. What do you want? I’ll find it for you.”
“Cinnabar, Yellow Paper, Jade Pendants, I want the best quality.”
The young man smiled and quoted the price: “Cinnabar is 32,000 yuan per liang, Yellow Paper is 1,000 yuan per sheet. As for Jade Pendants, a batch just arrived a few days ago, and the quality is very good, 50,000 yuan each. How many do you want?”
The Jade Pendants in the store were all semi-finished products, with only outlines and no patterns, making it convenient for Taoist Master (Taoist Master) to carve runes and formations on them.
Gu Qingyin’s brows furrowed immediately. Twenty years had passed, and prices had soared. It was like robbery!
“Can it be cheaper?”
The young man smiled, “Small business, no bargaining.”
Gu Qingyin curled her lips, took out a card from her bag, and asked, “Can a membership card from twenty years ago still get a discount?”
The young man’s eyes flickered slightly. He took the card and carefully checked it. It was indeed real, but…
“Our membership card can only be used by the cardholder and cannot be lent out.”
“This is mine!” Gu Qingyin saw that there was a chance and quickly emphasized, “Boss Qin gave it to me personally back then. If you don’t believe me, ask him. He definitely remembers me.”
Back then, she was a big customer of the store!
The young man smiled, “No need for so much trouble, I believe you. Wait a moment, I’ll get the goods.”
Three Jade Pendants, one catty of Cinnabar, and one hundred sheets of cut Yellow Paper, after an 80% discount and rounding down, totaled 450,000 yuan.
Gu Qingyin paid the bill and left briskly, seemingly unconcerned, but in reality, her heart was aching.
Luckily, she had a private stash of money, or else she wouldn’t even be able to afford the greeting gifts for the children.
No, she had to double the price of her future commissions!
Gu Qingyin left with a bleeding heart, not noticing the young man staring at her back as he took out his phone and dialed a number, “Old man, that Taoist Master (Taoist Master) who suddenly disappeared twenty years ago is back.”
The bodyguards drove Gu Qingyin back to the villa. She carried her things into the study, and it wasn’t until the sky was completely dark that she finished making the three protective Jade Pendants.
The emerald green Jade Pendants were not much bigger than a one-yuan coin, and they would look good as pendants hanging around the neck.
Gu Qingyin put away the things. When she went out, she smelled a spicy and savory meat aroma. She followed the aroma downstairs and found that there were several more people in the villa.
A middle-aged woman in a Tang suit saw her come down, her eyes lit up, and she greeted her with a smile, “Hello, Madam. I’m the new butler, my name is Hua Xin.”
Gu Qingyin habitually looked at her face, then smiled with curved eyebrows, “I’ll be troubling Aunt Hua in the future.”
This greeting made Hua Xin smile even more happily, “Madam, the meal is ready. Should we start now?”
Gu Qingyin familiarly walked to the dining room and asked as she sat down, “When will Huo Xingye be back?”
Hua Xin shook her head, “I heard that the Family Head usually lives in a house near the company and probably won’t be back.” She was previously responsible for matters related to the Huo Family Estate and was temporarily transferred here today, so she didn’t know much about the Family Head’s affairs.
Gu Qingyin nodded, then put her hands together and her eyes lit up, “Then let’s eat!”
As for the Jade Pendants, she could only give them to Huo Xingye when he came next time.
However, Gu Qingyin didn’t expect that Huo Xingye would be out of contact for three consecutive days.
She was a little unhappy. It had only been twenty years since they had reunited as mother and son, and he had disappeared after just one meeting?
That brat, he probably needed a beating!
