Ch 49: Fate is Already Sealed
Early in the morning, the doorbell rang incessantly, greatly disturbing one’s sweet dreams.
Gu Qingyin heard the doorbell from the first ring, but she didn’t want to move; she hadn’t slept enough. But the person outside was exceptionally persistent, like some emotionless doorbell-ringing machine.
Gu Qingyin couldn’t bear it any longer, turned over and got out of bed, opening the door with a bellyful of resentment from not being fully awake.
Outside the door were the camera director and an unfamiliar police officer.
The two of them subconsciously held their breath upon seeing the ghost-like Gu Qingyin, not daring to utter a sound.
“What time is it?” Gu Qingyin asked in a hoarse voice.
The police officer remained silent, and the camera director gave a dry laugh. “Seven, seven o’clock.”
Seven o’clock? Gu Qingyin frowned, even more annoyed; she had only slept for a little over three hours!
With a sullen face, Gu Qingyin asked impatiently, “What is it?”
The camera director took a step back, and Gu Qingyin looked toward the two particularly conspicuous police officers.
One of the police officers cleared his throat. “Excuse me… is Huo Xinghai awake? We need you all to come to the police station to make a statement.”
Gu Qingyin laughed in anger. “Does it have to be now? Can’t you wait until we’ve woken up?”
The police officer was somewhat embarrassed. “The Fu family has been putting pressure on us; we want to close the case as soon as possible, and we hope you’ll cooperate.”
Gu Qingyin was a little surprised. Feng Xia had beaten Fu Zimo like that, and the Fu family still wanted to bail him out? What for? Private revenge?
“How is Feng Xia now?”
The police officer said seriously, “She’s seriously injured. She was only transferred from the ICU to a regular ward this morning. The current situation is that she’s been released on bail pending trial, and our colleagues will be watching her throughout her hospitalization.”
Gu Qingyin understood. Besides taking a statement, the police probably also wanted to determine if she had used excessive force in self-defense.
“You guys wait a bit; I need to get ready before I can go out.”
After Gu Qingyin finished speaking, she turned around and went back upstairs, leaving the police officer and the camera director downstairs unattended, without even a glass of water.
The camera director could only fend for himself, pouring a glass of water for the police officer and conveniently finding noodles and eggs in the kitchen, planning to simply cook two bowls of egg noodles.
After all, they were guests of the production crew; they had just been kidnapped last night, and they weren’t even allowed to get a good night’s sleep early in the morning. It was too inhumane.
“Officer, have you eaten?” The camera director asked with a smile. “If you haven’t, eat something with us. You know, celebrities don’t get ready that quickly after waking up.”
The police officer hesitated, about to politely decline, when his stomach let out a rumbling sound. He was a little embarrassed. “Then I’ll trouble you.”
Gu Qingyin went upstairs and took a shower first. When she looked in the mirror and saw that her complexion was too poor, she applied a face mask she had pilfered from Huo Xinghai, then opened her suitcase to find clothes.
Loose pants and a form-fitting sleeveless top, several bracelets stacked on her wrist, her satchel slung over her shoulder, and outdoor slippers, and she was ready to go out.
The main thing was simplicity and comfort.
After removing the mask and washing her face simply, Gu Qingyin used makeup to cover her dark circles, then went out to go to Huo Xinghai’s room. Halfway there, she seemed to remember something, quickly turned back, and rummaged through the bed like she was tearing down a house, finally finding that mechanism box.
Originally, she had planned to put the box directly into her satchel, but although it fit, the bag was stretched out and looked a little unsightly.
Gu Qingyin clicked her tongue and took the box out again, then pinched the doll and stuffed it into the bag with irritation.
Mm, that looked much better.
It had been half an hour by the time Gu Qingyin woke up Huo Xinghai. Fortunately, Huo Xinghai got ready quickly and came out in five minutes.
The mother and son went downstairs one after the other, and the camera director was getting impatient, letting out a sigh of relief and saying, “Eat quickly; the noodles are going to get soggy.”
Gu Qingyin raised her eyebrows slightly, sat down at the dining table, politely thanked him, and then ate unhurriedly.
Huo Xinghai also habitually smiled at the camera director and the police officer, then sat down next to Gu Qingyin, slurping up the noodles one after another.
Seeing this, the camera director became even more anxious, wishing he could put the chopsticks in his mouth. “Teacher Huo, do you not have an appetite?”
If it were before, Huo Xinghai would probably have smiled and changed the subject, forcing himself to eat a few big bites, and then making excuses that he was full. But now, he wanted to listen to Gu Qingyin and be himself.
Huo Xinghai twitched the corners of his lips. “I didn’t sleep well, so I really don’t have much of an appetite. And I’m used to Western-style breakfasts. Is there any coffee?”
The corners of the camera director’s lips twitched. “I saw some instant coffee over there.”
Huo Xinghai said “Oh,” then said, “Then never mind, thank you.”
“… You’re welcome.”
The camera director was a little puzzled. He felt that Huo Xinghai was a little different, but he couldn’t quite put his finger on it. It was as if he didn’t feel as easygoing as before?
The delay had been a bit long, and they didn’t pay much attention when they came out. They were photographed when they got into the police car.
The photos were posted online, sparking a new round of discussion.
Netizens were speculating about the reason why Huo Xinghai and Gu Qingyin were taken away by the police, and even started conspiracy theories, saying that the reason why Feng Xia injured Fu Zimo was actually manipulated behind the scenes by the Huo family mother and son.
Regardless of whether the logic was correct or whether there was any reason, as long as it could attract attention, that was all that mattered.
Just as this trend was starting to rise, Jian Xilin called Huo Xinghai, and just as he was about to ask, he heard Huo Xinghai lower his voice and say, “It’s not convenient right now; I’ll talk to you later about what’s going on.”
Jian Xilin didn’t even open his mouth before the call was hung up, and he immediately felt a surge of anger in his heart.
After a few seconds of calming down, he resigned himself to calling Xue Ning, who also didn’t give him a chance to speak, only saying succinctly, “You don’t need to worry about this; Huo Corporation’s public relations department will handle it.”
Xue Ning was probably very busy, and hung up the phone directly after speaking. But this time, Jian Xilin’s anger was completely smoothed out. The trouble had been taken over by someone else, and all he had to do next was watch.
Sure enough, it was good to have a big tree to lean against; so comfortable!
Soon, the Huo Corporation issued an announcement, with an attached lawyer’s letter.
Huo Corporation V: Don’t believe rumors, don’t spread rumors, and wait quietly for the official statement.
PS: Huo Corporation will pursue those who spread rumors to the end. Please remember that the Internet is not a lawless place.
Huo Corporation’s statement caused the netizens to quiet down a lot, but they only moved from the surface to the underground.
“Family Head, the trend has been temporarily suppressed.” Xue Ning stood in front of the wide desk, reporting on his work while staring at the tablet. “The funds have been prepared, and a meeting time has been arranged with several shareholders of the Fu family.”
Huo Xingye’s eyes were cold. “Contact them as soon as the police issue their announcement, lower the price to the lowest possible, and buy as much as you can.”
In the past, Fu Zimo would create small obstacles and spread small rumors about Huo Xinghai. It wasn’t that Huo Xingye didn’t know, but he was just too lazy to pay attention. But Huo Xingye had a bottom line in his heart, and once it was touched, he would inevitably have to bear his revenge.
The Fu family’s fate was sealed the moment Feng Xia took action.
After today, the Fu Corporation will completely disappear, and Huo Corporation will have a brand-new subsidiary.
