Chapter 30
As expected, perhaps as an engineer, one tends to be particular about the Clawsolas they’ve been involved with?
“Even from the user’s perspective, you develop a fondness for your own Clawsolas.”
Thinking back, my time with the 4th Clawsolas was short, with the only real combat experience being in the Great Forest outside of mock battles. Still, I had already grown quite attached to it.
“A sword is a samurai’s soul, huh…”
“Oh, I’m glad to hear a Japanese person say that about a Clawsolas.”
The Rare Human engineer squad leader grinned and returned to work, spinning his hammer. He lightly tapped key points on the leg frame, picking up the resonating metallic sounds with his ears.
“What’s he doing?”
“He can probably tell the degree of material fatigue by the sound.”
I answered Revia, who tilted her head cutely, but our metallic materials are refined using alchemy that involves magic, so I’m not sure if knowledge from another world applies.
Therefore, I spoke vaguely without making a definitive statement and headed towards the two new Clawsolas kneeling in a standby posture at the back of the workshop, along with Lloyd and the others.
“King Claude, we’re going to work on adjusting the Begalta.”
“Then, please excuse us.”
“Ah, see you both later.”
“Well, I have to register as a mage for Belphegor too.”
The red-haired girl clenched both fists in front of her chest, seemingly psyching herself up for something… but since registering with the Magic Core and installing magic is the mage’s responsibility, there’s nothing I, the exclusive knight, can do to help.
Nevertheless, seeing the ikemen escort his younger sister with such natural movements that didn’t raise any questions, I felt some resistance to just leaving Revia behind with a “Well then, do your best.”
‘Well, I owe her a lot…’
Not only have I been in her care since the first day, but I’ve also been spending more time with her as a partner than with Izana, who I’m in a marriage with… I can understand why the former Knight King Strauss had an affair with Sariel, his personal mage.
I heard this story from her after she got off her Clawsolas and returned to being a mage. She urged me to be as careful as possible so as not to hurt Izana, like they did.
Although the custom of the Lizel Knight Kingdom allows for concubines, I dismissed it as something that wouldn’t concern a simpleton like me and turned my gaze to the elevated work platform for maintenance.
There, Revia, with her hands pressed against the exposed Magic Core, muttered something softly. In conjunction with a faint phosphorescent light, the core itself was enveloped in an emerald glow.
“Hmm, I wonder if the mage registration went well?”
“Please wait a moment, Ojou-san.”
The middle-aged engineer focused on the measuring device connected to the Magic Core with several suction cups, staring at the Magiascope that visualized the values and fluctuations indicated by the needles on the meter panel.
“Confirming the stability of the magic waveform, there seem to be no problems. Next is the magic installation, but the second generation is designed to accommodate two of the same type.”
“Hmm, I’ll continue to use ‘Air Bullet Burst’ for one… What should I do with the other one, Claude? What do you think?”
Even if you ask me, I don’t know all the magic Revia can handle, so all I can do is suggest a direction.
“How about a power-focused magic to compensate for the weakness of area-of-effect attacks?”
“Hmm, then I’ll install ‘Wind Hallow’.”
She turned around and touched the Magic Core with both hands again, causing a magical resonance phenomenon. Meanwhile, the engineer confirmed the establishment of the spell formula from the magic waveform displayed on the measuring device.
After repeating the same procedure once more and witnessing the installation of two types of magic into Belphegor’s core, I got off the elevated work platform and offered words of appreciation to Revia.
Not long after, the Lunavadis siblings also finished adjusting the Begalta and joined us. All that remained was for the engineers to return the cockpit they had removed, and the Clawsolas would be ready to move.
By the way, when we were modifying the Clawsolas K-type at the Lizel workshop, we used Clawsolas to install the cockpit and other parts, so I guess it’s the same here.
“At this rate, we’ll be able to test them out tomorrow.”
“If you want, we could even go to the outskirts of the city and have a mock battle?”
“It’s obvious that Raizes-sama would be angry, Onii-sama…”
Although Lloyd was being nonchalant while being glared at by his younger sister, there was some truth to his words. I wanted to avoid going into actual combat completely unprepared.
At that time, I thought we should at least check the combat mobility, even if it meant a mock battle where damage was expected… Unexpected situations tend to occur suddenly.
…
…
…
‘That’s awfully noisy.’
I had fallen into a light sleep, partly because I wasn’t used to the bed in the borrowed room, and I woke up to the noise and the sound of Clawsolas moving outside.
Considering it was the middle of the night, I realized it wasn’t a normal situation. I crawled out of bed, quickly got dressed, and went out into the hallway.
“Hmm, you saved me the trouble of waking you up.”
“Do you know what’s going on, Raizes?”
“No, I was just thinking of waking everyone up…”
Lloyd and another squire, who had come out into the hallway slightly later, reacted to his calm voice and went around knocking on the doors of the rooms where the people staying in the small castle and those assigned as guards were sleeping.
“Ugh~, what’s up?”
“It might be urgent, just get dressed for now.”
I smiled wryly at Revia, who peeked out from the gap in the door in her thin underwear, and waited for a while until the rest of Eleia and the squires gathered. Then, as a precaution, we sent the Lunavadis siblings and three others to the barracks where Cavalry Captain Aldo, Dino, and the others were sleeping.
Meanwhile, in order to confirm the situation that required moving multiple Clawsolas in the middle of the night, we hurried to Nina’s office on the upper floor.
