Ch 106: Injured
Knock knock knock—
The door was gently knocked, Xiao Wenxing pushed the door open and walked in, holding a bowl of warm porridge.
Xiao Wenxing placed the porridge on the bedside table and said, “I cooked some porridge. Let’s see if Grandmother can wake up. If she wakes up, she can eat a little something to fill her stomach. She hasn’t eaten anything all day.”
Xiao Yao nodded, gently shook Grandmother’s body, and softly called out a few times, but received no response.
Seeing this, Xiao Wenxing also stepped forward and called out a few times in a louder voice, but still received no response.
Xiao Wenxing sighed, glanced at Zhuang Lingyun, then at Xiao Yao, “This room is small and cramped. I’ve booked two standard rooms at the hotel next door. My parents have already gone over. You guys should also go and stay there for the night. We can switch to a larger hotel tomorrow.”
After speaking, he handed over a room key. Zhuang Lingyun took it and said thank you.
Xiao Wenxing didn’t look at him, and directly grabbed Xiao Yao’s wrist to get her up, pushing her into Zhuang Lingyun’s arms. “Alright, you guys go. I’ll stay with Grandmother.”
Xiao Yao wanted to stay, but Xiao Wenxing’s attitude was firm. And Zhuang Lingyun looked very tired. If she insisted on staying, he certainly wouldn’t leave alone to rest.
Xiao Yao could only nod, “If anything happens, you must call me immediately. I’ll come right away.”
Xiao Wenxing hummed, waved his hand, “Go.”
Xiao Yao walked a few steps and couldn’t help but turn back to tell him, “Just sleep in this room for a while. Don’t go out and meet those people. It wouldn’t be worth getting into any conflict.”
Xiao Wenxing smiled at her, “I know.”
Xiao Yao nodded, put her arm around Zhuang Lingyun’s arm and walked out.
The hotel next door, although called a hotel, was only the size of a small motel. Although the decoration was new, the layout was very small. The room was less than twenty square meters, with its own bathroom. From the bathroom, you could be in bed in two steps.
Xiao Yao left in a hurry, and hadn’t had time to pack any changes of clothes or toiletries, and naturally, neither had Zhuang Lingyun.
The two of them simply cleaned up with the hotel’s disposable toiletries and went to bed.
Zhuang Lingyun held Xiao Yao in his arms, as intimate as they were during their honeymoon.
After sitting on the plane for the afternoon, both of them were a little tired, and soon fell asleep.
After an unknown amount of time, Xiao Yao was suddenly awakened by a series of urgent knocks on the door, and sat up abruptly. Zhuang Lingyun patted her hand to comfort her, lifted the covers and got out of bed to open the door.
Third Aunt was at the door, her face serious. “Xiao Zhuang, where’s Xiao Yao? Wake her up quickly, something’s happened!”
Xiao Yao had been listening intently, and hearing Third Aunt’s voice and that something had happened, she immediately jumped out of bed and ran out barefoot.
“Third Aunt, what happened?”
“I just received a call from Wenxing. He said your grandmother passed away. Your Third Uncle is already on his way back. Let’s go quickly.”
Although she had already expected it, Xiao Yao’s heart still sank, instantly falling to the bottom.
Zhuang Lingyun held her hand, “Don’t panic, put on your shoes, I’ll go with you.”
Xiao Yao’s tears had already fallen from her eyes, splashing down her front. She forcefully sniffed, wiped away her tears, nodded, put on her shoes and followed Third Aunt out of the hotel.
On the way upstairs, after entering the door, they found the living room in a mess, chairs overturned, and the fruit plate and teacups on the coffee table were smashed on the floor, broken into pieces. The main bedroom door was wide open, and the three burly men were nowhere to be seen.
Grandmother’s bedroom was filled with Third Uncle’s mournful cries. Xiao Yao rushed in, only to see Third Uncle and Xiao Wenxing kneeling on either side of the bed.
Third Uncle held the old woman’s hand, crying hoarsely, calling out “Mom” again and again.
Xiao Wenxing on the side was half-bowed, his brows furrowed, his face pale.
The old woman on the bed was already turning blue, her expression serene, just like she was sleeping when she passed away.
Only now, there was no breath.
Xiao Yao called out “Grandmother” softly several times, but there was no response.
After the crying, it was time to prepare for the funeral.
Xiao Jianbo naturally knew that the old woman’s time was near, and had already prepared the necessary items for the funeral. While the old woman’s body was not yet completely stiff, he and his wife dressed her in her burial clothes. Then he called the funeral home to send a car to pick her up.
While Xiao Jianbo and his wife were dressing the old woman, Xiao Wenxing stepped back a few steps, standing far away and watching.
Xiao Yao couldn’t help either, so she went to Xiao Wenxing, intending to ask him where the three men had gone and why the living room was in such a mess. But as she approached, she suddenly smelled a strong smell of blood.
Then, seeing Xiao Wenxing’s pale face covered in cold sweat, and the way he was enduring the pain, Xiao Yao’s heart sank, and a bad feeling arose.
“What’s wrong with you? Let me see!”
“Nothing.” Xiao Wenxing reflexively blocked Xiao Yao’s hand as she reached out, his eyes avoiding hers, he went around her, his steps staggering as he walked towards the door.
But as he passed Zhuang Lingyun, he was grabbed by the shoulder, stopping him.
Xiao Wenxing’s face immediately changed, “Let go!”
But the words he shouted were weak. However, Zhuang Lingyun didn’t care what he said, his gaze following his chest downwards. His black t-shirt was slightly bulging in the front, and there was a large wet stain.
Zhuang Lingyun hooked the hem of his shirt and lifted it up. Xiao Wenxing had a large wad of tissue stuffed into his abdomen. The white tissues were soaked crimson with blood, wet and sticky to his stomach.
Zhuang Lingyun’s eyebrows furrowed slightly as he looked at Xiao Wenxing.
Xiao Wenxing wanted to push his hand away, but his limbs were limp and weak, relying entirely on Zhuang Lingyun’s arm to support him.
Zhuang Lingyun casually removed the soaked tissues. With a plop, the blood-soaked wad of tissue fell to the ground, splattering crimson blood everywhere. Without the tissue covering it, the wound on his stomach was immediately exposed to Zhuang Lingyun’s view.
The three-inch long gash was like a baby’s mouth, there were three or four of them, and blood gushed out with each breath.
This sudden change caused everyone present to change their expressions. Xiao Yao was the first to react, taking a quick step forward, supporting Xiao Wenxing who was about to fall, “What happened! How did you get hurt? Did those men hurt you? Did they stab you?”
Xiao Wenxing was unable to answer Xiao Yao’s questions. Even if he wanted to, his consciousness was fading, his eyes rolled back, and he passed out.
Zhuang Lingyun asked Xiao Yao to bring a chair, helped Xiao Wenxing sit down, turned to Xiao Jianbo and his wife, who were dumbfounded, and said, “Don’t just stand there, call an ambulance quickly.”
Xiao Jianshan immediately reacted, frantically searching for his phone, trembling as he dialed 120, stammering out their home address.
At this moment, Third Aunt, who had also reacted, had thrown herself at Xiao Wenxing’s feet, crying loudly. The pain and sorrow she felt didn’t seem fake. Even if he wasn’t her biological son, she had raised him for more than twenty years, and their relationship was certainly genuine.
Xiao Yao felt a mix of emotions.
