Ch 133: Always By Your Side
“What’s wrong?” Zhuang Lingyun was a little flustered, wanting to help her up but not knowing where to start. His complexion turned pale. “Don’t be afraid, I’ll call an ambulance right away, don’t be afraid!”
“Ah! Wait a minute.” Xiao Yao hurriedly leaned over to pull the flustered him, blushing, “I, I think I’ve started my menstruation…”
Her menstrual period was always quite punctual. Logically, it should be a week away, but it’s not impossible for it to come early.
If she called an ambulance because of her menstruation and was sent to the hospital, she would probably be laughed at. She absolutely couldn’t let that happen, even though her lower back ached and she felt pain, it was most likely just ordinary menstrual cramps.
“Otherwise, go make me a cup of brown sugar ginger water. Drinking it might help ease the pain.”
Zhuang Lingyun was still a little worried. “Are you sure you’re okay? You just took that medicine yesterday, I’m afraid…”
Xiao Yao hesitated for a moment, then said: “It’s fine, I’ll ask later.”
Zhuang Lingyun nodded and left the room.
Xiao Yao followed, got out of bed, found a new nightgown, cleaned herself in the bathroom, put on a sanitary pad, and changed into a clean nightgown. She returned to the room, removed the soiled bed sheet and duvet cover, replaced them with a new set, and went back to the bathroom to wash the soiled bed sheet.
Zhuang Lingyun returned quickly, holding a steaming cup of brown sugar ginger tea. Seeing no one in the room, he heard the sound of rushing water from the bathroom, the bathroom door was ajar.
He put the ginger tea on the table, walked to the bathroom door, pushed it open, and saw Xiao Yao washing the bed sheet.
“Let me do it.” He immediately reached out to pull her.
Xiao Yao blushed and shook her head, “I’ll do it, I’ll be done soon.”
“Don’t touch cold water during your period. Come out, I’ll wash it.”
Xiao Yao blushed even more uncomfortably. Knowing that she had gotten her menstruation on the bed was embarrassing enough, so she would rather throw away the soiled bed sheet and duvet cover than let Zhuang Lingyun touch them.
“You still have to go to work later, don’t waste time here, I’m really fine.”
“I’m not going.”
Xiao Yao made a sound of surprise, threw the wet bed sheet into the basin, wiped her hands, stood up, pushed him out of the room, followed him out, and closed the bathroom door behind her.
She strongly disagreed with his previous statement, saying: “You’re the company’s leader, how can you take the lead in skipping work every now and then, setting a bad example for your employees, and how can you lead others?”
“Just today, I’ll stay home with you for a day, otherwise I’m not at ease. Tomorrow I’ll definitely go early.” He moved closer, holding her warm, slightly damp hand in his palm, pressing it against his chest, “Xiao Yao, work can be done anytime, and besides, without me, the company can still operate on its own, but you’re different. You’re in a very special situation right now, and I must stay with you before I can feel at ease.”
Xiao Yao lowered her head and smiled shyly, “I’m not that delicate! The treatment has just begun, and it’s hard to say when it will take effect. How long will you accompany me?”
“I’m willing to stay with you always.”
Xiao Yao couldn’t refuse him, so she nodded and let him stay home for another day.
After drinking the brown sugar ginger tea and changing her clothes, Zhuang Lingyun took Xiao Yao downstairs for breakfast, but saw Aunt Huang serving Yan Nian. Jiang Lufang and Xiao Letao were not there.
Xiao Yao curiously asked Aunt Huang, but Aunt Huang said that Jiang Lufang got up very early today and took Le Tao out early in the morning, she didn’t know where they went, and didn’t leave a message.
“It’s so cold in the morning and evening, where could she take Le Tao? ” Xiao Yao took out her mobile phone to call Jiang Lufang, but the phone rang from the room, she didn’t take her phone out.
Xiao Yao was full of doubts, but not worried.
After the two of them had breakfast with Yan Nian, Aunt Huang took Yan Nian to early childhood education class.
Xiao Yao changed her clothes and went out with Zhuang Lingyun to the opposite side.
Unexpectedly, as soon as they entered the house, they saw Jiang Lufang sitting on the sofa drinking tea, Bai Yujing sitting opposite her, and Xiao Letao sitting in Bai Yujing’s arms, happily gnawing on a teether.
Her mouth was full of drool and biscuit crumbs. Bai Yujing held a white handkerchief, talking to Jiang Lufang, occasionally wiping Le Tao’s drool.
Xiao Yao and Zhuang Lingyun looked at each other, both puzzled.
Before today, Jiang Lufang and Bai Yujing had never even met, yet now they were sitting together in such a harmonious atmosphere, how could it not be shocking.
“Mom! You went out this morning, and you came here?”
Jiang Lufang smiled when she saw Xiao Yao, “Of course, my mother-in-law came from afar, and you younger generations didn’t introduce her, so I had to bring Le Tao to visit in the morning. We didn’t prepare any gifts, which is impolite. But we’ve already agreed, I’ll cook a big meal tonight for my mother-in-law to taste authentic Chinese cuisine.”
Bai Yujing smiled and waved her hand, “What gifts and all that, no need for those formalities. I find this child so likable, it makes me happier than any gift. Old woman I’ve lived for half my life, my grandson didn’t grow up in my arms, speaking of holding children, it’s been forty or fifty years, when Ling Yun’s father was young. Now my methods are not skilled, but this little guy likes to fuss in my arms, I’m very happy.”
Xiao Yao laughed, “Grandma, Le Tao hasn’t had breakfast yet, how about we let her eat before bringing her over to play with you?”
Jiang Lufang slapped her thigh, “Oh, yes, we were chatting so enthusiastically that we forgot the child hasn’t eaten yet.”
Bai Yujing said: “Don’t delay then, Mother-in-law, take the child back. Put on a blanket, it’s cold outside, don’t catch a cold.”
Jiang Lufang repeatedly agreed, hugged Le Tao and went back. When she passed by Xiao Yao, she stopped, leaned close to Xiao Yao’s ear and whispered, “This mother-in-law is such a kind person, she’s not as terrible as you said.”
Xiao Yao gave a dry laugh and watched her mother leave, then looked at Zhuang Lingyun beside her, only to see him staring at Bai Yujing with a complex expression, his eyes unfamiliar as if he were looking at a stranger.
Xiao Yao guessed that the grandmother and grandson had something to say, so she wanted to give them some space and then asked about Old Madam Ju’s room before going over there.
The spacious hall instantly fell silent.
Zhuang Lingyun stepped forward and sat opposite Bai Yujing. Bai Yujing picked up a new teacup, poured him a cup of tea, and pushed it in front of Zhuang Lingyun, “Your father will come over tonight, your mother-in-law seems kind, inviting me to dinner, can I…”
Pausing, she looked at Zhuang Lingyun’s expression, seeing no anger or happiness, Bai Yujing continued: “The estrangement between you and your father has lasted a long time, but Lingyun, in this world, which parent doesn’t love their child? It’s just that their ways of expressing it are different. Your father’s personality is like mine, both strong-willed and stubborn, wanting to do things his own way, this bad temper has led to his current situation, he’s also pitiful, now he’s alone and ill…”
“You’re different from before.”
Bai Yujing was stunned, then chuckled, “Yes, I’m different, over the years, I’ve let go, and naturally I’ve learned to adapt.”
“Back then, I misunderstood you. Why didn’t you explain then?”
“It’s all in the past.”
“Grandma, I’m sorry.”
Bai Yujing suddenly felt a sharp pain in her chest, and her eyes were slightly hot. She was getting older, her emotions were fickle, she couldn’t bear even a little soft words.
But it was the long-awaited soft words.
