Ch 20: What Makes You Think You’re Worthy Of Being The Zhuang Family’s Daughter-in-law?
Xiao Yao had slept early last night and woke up early this morning. As soon as she opened her eyes, she saw Zhuang Lingyun lying beside her bed, and she was startled, sitting up abruptly.
He was still asleep, lying there.
Half his face was pressed against his arm, sleeping soundly. His mouth was squeezed out of shape, but it didn’t affect his handsomeness.
After her initial fright, Xiao Yao gradually calmed down. She quietly lay back on her pillow and carefully examined his handsome face.
Women who are too beautiful are trouble; if men are too handsome, what does it matter?
Just based on his looks, even if he were penniless, he would never lack women; what’s more, he’s a diamond bachelor. What did he see in her that made him choose her and no one else?
She wanted to believe that good things don’t fall from the sky, always feeling there was something she didn’t know.
Looking and looking, Xiao Yao couldn’t help but extend a forefinger, gently stroking his high nose bridge, sword-like eyebrows, and thin lips. The contours were like a careful carving by God’s hand. If she could have children, they would surely be exceptionally beautiful babies.
For the first time, Xiao Yao felt regret for her infertility, wasting such good genes.
“You like touching me so much, and you secretly came to sleep in the guest room, huh?” A hoarse, low voice startled Xiao Yao; as she hastily withdrew her hand, he grabbed her, catching her red-handed.
Zhuang Lingyun slowly opened his eyes; a light smile appeared in his clear black eyes. “Running? Keep touching.”
When did this guy wake up? Xiao Yao blushed, forcefully pulling back her hand, sitting up and using the blanket to cover her lower body. She glared at him. “I remember I locked the door.”
“I have the key.”
“Then… why didn’t you come to bed?”
Zhuang Lingyun sighed, “How dare I without your permission?”
Listen to this aggrieved tone, as if her words really counted. Xiao Yao snorted, thinking: He’s paying lip service; I locked the door, and he should know he shouldn’t have entered the room.
“What do you want for breakfast?” Zhuang Lingyun propped his chin, smiling at her sideways. “I’ll make anything you want.”
This handsome face coupled with the good-man persona really made her unable to get angry. Xiao Yao threw off the blanket and got out of bed. “Let me make it. The smell of alcohol hasn’t dissipated yet; go take a shower.”
Xiao Yao had just put on her shoes when he embraced her from behind, holding her tightly. Bending down, burying his face in her neck, the man’s hot breath sprayed onto her skin, instantly raising goosebumps all over Xiao Yao.
She shivered. “What are you doing?”
“You’re rejecting me already? Huh?” That “『huh』” seemed to hum from his throat, with a faint smile; his warm lips lingered on her skin.
“Pervert!” Xiao Yao shrank her neck, blushing, and pushed him with her elbow. “It’s broad daylight; be proper.”
“I’m hugging my wife; what’s improper about that?”
“Zhuang Lingyun…” Xiao Yao’s neck was completely red. She had no experience with intimacy, and he easily provoked her; after a few kisses on her neck, her body went limp.
Zhuang Lingyun, seeing that it was enough, didn’t bully her further. He smiled and gave her a light kiss on the top of her head. “I’ll go take a shower; after breakfast, I’ll take you to work.”
As soon as he let go, Xiao Yao, blushing, rushed out the door.
Zhuang Lingyun’s hearty laughter followed.
The kitchen was open-plan. Xiao Yao ran over and opened the refrigerator door, sticking most of her head inside, pretending to search for ingredients; in fact, what she wanted was right under her nose.
Only after she heard the sound of slippers walking into the bathroom and the door closing did she finally lean against the refrigerator’s cold air, suppressing the heat on her face and the throbbing in her heart.
Xiao Yao let out a breath. A man who is good at flirting is really deadly.
Halfway through cooking, the doorbell suddenly rang.
Xiao Yao glanced at the bathroom; the sound of water hadn’t stopped. She was surprised that someone would knock at this early hour. After wiping her hands on her apron, Xiao Yao ran to open the door.
Through the peephole, she saw a man and a woman standing at the door. The woman was wearing flesh-colored stockings and a very short skirt, with a white mink coat draped over her shoulders; the fluffy collar piled up at her neck; she looked beautiful and elegant.
Behind the woman stood a middle-aged man, hands behind his back, with a straight posture and a stern expression.
Xiao Yao didn’t know who they were. She looked back at the bathroom; the sound of water had stopped. She wondered if she should wait for him to open the door? At that moment, she heard the sound of the lock turning in the keyhole. Xiao Yao froze, hurriedly stepping back.
The woman in mink directly opened the door and walked in, her eyes meeting Xiao Yao’s surprised gaze.
She hadn’t seen her clearly through the peephole; in person, this woman was even more beautiful, with deep features that gave her a slightly mixed-race appearance. Her pupils had a subtle, natural light green tint; whether it was natural or contact lenses, she couldn’t tell.
Zhong Lingxiu looked Xiao Yao up and down, her eyes fixed on her face, slightly narrowed, her gaze somewhat cold and sharp.
“Who are you…?”
A cold wind blew in from outside, making Xiao Yao shiver.
The middle-aged man who followed closed the door, his expression cold as he glanced at Xiao Yao. Without speaking, and without changing his shoes, he strode in, each step leaving a snow print.
Those who could open the door with a key were clearly not strangers. Noticing the seven-point resemblance between the just-arrived man and Zhuang Lingyun, Xiao Yao already had an answer.
But looking at the young woman, one second she was looking at her with hostility, the next second, she curled her lips, ignoring her with an arrogant air, swaying her hips as she followed the man into the house.
Who is this person?
Zhong Lingxiu looked around the room, her gaze falling on the large wedding photo on the living room wall.
The background was traditional Chinese style; the man was in a suit, elegantly seated; the woman was in a white dress, her arm around the man’s neck from behind, holding pink flowers, half-lying on his shoulder, smiling radiantly.
He held her hand, slightly turning his head to look at her; his smile was full of doting affection, overflowing from the frame.
Zhong Lingxiu looked at the wedding photo for a long time before turning around, glancing at Xiao Yao, who had just poured two glasses of water on the coffee table, then looking back at the woman in the wedding photo, she couldn’t help but let out a sarcastic laugh, “The Photoshop is a bit heavy.”
Xiao Yao looked up at her, noticing the malice in her eyes; because she didn’t know her identity, she didn’t dare to confront her rashly.
“Please have a seat. I’ll go call him…”
Xiao Yao turned around, and after taking a few steps, she heard the woman’s sneering voice behind her, “We’re here mainly to see you; what makes you think you’re qualified to be the Zhuang family’s daughter-in-law?”
Xiao Yao stopped, turning to look at Zhong Lingxiu.
